Jesus Pinedo motivated to take Movlid Khaybulaev's undefeated record in PFL final

A championship belt and $500,000 should be more than enough for Jesus Pinedo to want to get his hand raised on Friday night. However, there is another factor that has the Peruvian psyched for his return to the PFL smart cage.
Pinedo (25-6-1) takes on Movlid Khaybulaev in the co-main event of the 2025 PFL World Tournament 8: Finals, which goes down at Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey. This bout serves as the final of the 2025 PFL featherweight tournament. Both Pinedo and Khaybulaev have won the tournament in previous years, but one thing separates Khaybulaev from Pinedo – an undefeated record.
Pinedo is eager to level that statistic and become the first to beat Khaybulaev in MMA.
"Of course, that's what motivates me," Pinedo told MMA Junkie Radio in Spanish when asked about Khaybulaev's undefeated status. "I'm excited to fight with a rival of his caliber. We knew that he was the guy to beat at the beginning of the tournament, so I've been preparing very hard to fight him. I'm completely ready, and I will be the first guy to give him that first defeat."
Pinedo, who logged first-round finishes over Adam Borics and Gabriel Braga to get to the final, hopes his fight against Khaybulaev draws out a little longer than his recent bouts. He wants his fight with Khaybulaev to go long, so he can prove to the world that he's superior to Khaybulaev and leave no doubt who's the better fighter.
"I would love for the fight to go long, and that is not a fight that ends quick like the ones I've been having," Pinedo explained. "Normally, I go to finish the fight in the first round, since the very first second, but if the fight goes long, that's good for me. That way I can show my work even more both technically and physically. I want to be abke to show people what I'm made of."

Trae Young reported 'frustrated' Hawks have yet to make contract extension offer

Luka Doncic got his max contract extension. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander got a historic one, and the Thunder also extended and locked up his running mates Jalen Williams and Chet Holmgren. Devin Booker got his extension. Trae Young has yet to get his, and he's growing increasingly frustrated. He was frustrated at the pace of things a month ago. ⌛️ ESPN/Andscape's Marc Spears said Tuesday that Young is 'disappointed' that he has yet to be offered a deal. From Spears' appearance on NBA Today: 'What I'm hearing now, at this point — you can tell by Trae's Tweet, and I saw him during the Finals — I think he's disappointed that it hasn't come, it hasn't been offered.' Atlanta can offer Young a four-year, $228.6 million max extension right now, but there also is no time crunch from the Hawks' perspective (the deadline to reach a deal is June 30, 2026). The question becomes: Is Young a max player? If not — and the conventional wisdom around the league is he's not a full max guy — then what is the number where everyone is happy, both in terms of dollars and years? The Hawks were aggressive this offseason, retooling their roster into one that could be a top-four team in the East. They traded for Kristaps Porzingis, who brings much-needed shot blocking to Atlanta, and he seems a natural pick-and-pop partner with Young. Nickeil Alexander-Walker brings shooting to the wing, plus he and Dyson Daniels give the Hawks an elite wing defense. Luke Kennard adds even more shooting. And that's not counting Jalen Johnson getting healthy and Zaccharie Risacher potentially making a leap in his second season. There's some logic to the idea of Young at the point leading this roster, he averaged 24.2 points and 11.6 assists per game last season, shooting 34% from beyond the arc. He also led the league in turnovers with 355 (4.7 per game), and is a minus defender. Does Atlanta want to see how things shake out on the court before getting serious with extension talks? More likely, they talk to Young about a two-year contract closer to his current salary (two years, $100-105 million). Whether he'd accept that is the question. What Young wants is an offer and negotiations as a place to start. You could easily get that vibe out of his support for Dallas Cowboys defensive end Micah Parsons and the drama around his contract. This why you pay the man early, when someone will take less early to stay in a place he wanted to be forever, you do it… the price only goes up now! Get what you deserve bro! The question is, how serious are the Hawks about talking at this point?

Artem Lobov: Conor McGregor was in 'party mindset' before Khabib fight, hardly trained

Artem Lobov wishes Conor McGregor took his fight preparation for Khabib Nurmagomedov more seriously. McGregor (22-6 MMA, 10-4 UFC) was submitted by Nurmagomedov in the fourth round of their lightweight title fight at UFC 229 in October 2018, marking the highest-selling pay-per-view in the promotion's history. McGregor's fight against Nurmagomedov came after he made his biggest-career paycheck against Floyd Mayweather in boxing. Prior to the Nurmagomedov fight, McGregor's most recent MMA fight was arguably the greatest performance of his career when he dominated and stopped Eddie Alvarez to become the UFC's first dual-champion. Lobov thinks that mindset of McGregor could have posed problems for Nurmagomedov (29-0 MMA, 13-0 UFC). "I would love to see him come back, because I feel that if he was at 100 percent, we would be able to bring Khabib back, as well," Lobov said on "The Ariel Helwani Show." "I think Khabib would come back for that fight if Conor was 100 percent and fit and making real moves, making real fights. He would just need one fight, knock the guy out, and then the whole world will be talking to Khabib and getting him to come back. I know that fight bothers Conor because he didn't train at all for that fight. "Twice a week he was training for Khabib. I tried to get him to Vegas and said to him, 'We have to do it, come on, brother.' And he said, 'No, f*ck off.' He just didn't want to do it. He was in the wrong mindset. He was in the party mindset. He was training twice a week, and that's it. So when I saw the fight, I was like, 'Oh my God, if only you trained four times a week, you probably would've beaten him.' But imagine him with a full camp, the Conor that fought Alvarez. Imagine that Conor fighting Khabib. That's what I want to see." Lobov and McGregor went from best friends and main training partners to now battling each in an ongoing legal battle over McGregor's Proper Twelve whiskey brand. Lobov announced that he'll be fighting Nurmagomedov's training partner, Zubaira Tukhugov, at a PFL event on Oct. 3 in Dubai.

Chelsea Are Open To Launching A Move For This Barcelona Attacker: Good Fit For Maresca?

In a recent report, journalist Mark Brus claimed that Chelsea are open to launching a move for Barcelona attacker Fermin Lopez this summer. It has been mentioned that the Blues are willing to make a bid in the region of €60m for the Spanish talent this off-season. Lopez's Impressive Form In La Liga Lopez enjoyed a decent run of form at the Catalan club in the previous campaign when he put in a series of impressive displays for them at the centre of the park. The Spanish playmaker featured in 46 matches for Barcelona last season, finding the back of the net eight times and picking up ten assists across all fronts. The 22-year-old managed to shine at times on the offensive end of the field as he averaged 2.95 shots per 90 minutes in La Liga football. He kept 36.6% of his shots on target. Lopez was even careful when interchanging possession with his teammates after completing 81.8% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via Lopez is under contract at the Catalan club until the summer of 2029. Hence, Chelsea would have to make a convincing offer if they are serious about recruiting him in this transfer window. (Photo by) Is Lopez A Good Fit For Chelsea Boss Enzo Maresca? Lopez can shoot the ball with venom from long range and has got the vision to engineer a few promising chances for others around him in the opponent's half. He can make some driving runs with the ball in the final third. The Spaniard had added plenty of goals and assists to his game. However, it remains to be seen whether he can make a smooth transition to life in the Premier League if Chelsea manage to bring him on board this off-season. Lopez would bring more quality and depth to Enzo Maresca's attack. He has what it takes to fight for regular first-team football at Stamford Bridge next season. At 22, Lopez has got the potential to be a future star in European football. Thus, he would be a great fit for the West London club's needs in the long run. All in all, Maresca should focus on getting a deal done for the talented playmaker soon.
