Masseuse who posted fake royal marriage certificate to be evaluated at Hospital Bahagia
Judge Norma Ismail made the order following a request by deputy public prosecutor Ravendejit Kaur to obtain a psychiatric report on the accused, Persana Avril Sollunda, 43, before the case proceeds to the next stage.
The accused's counsel Mehgalaa Rajendran did not object to the application.
'The court allows the accused to undergo treatment for one month starting today and obtain a full psychiatric report,' said Norma, who also fixed Aug 19 for mention of the case.
Persana Avril was charged with making and sending a fake video on the TikTok application through the account 'king.charles.ratu' showing a fake marriage certificate between a royal and Crown Princess Ratu Shana with the intention of hurting others last Feb 25.
The post was read at the Cyber Crime and Multimedia Investigation Division, Commercial Crime Investigation Department, Bukit Aman police headquarters, Menara KPJ here at 10 am last Feb 26.
The charge, framed under Section 233(1)(a) of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 [Act 588] and punishable under Section 233(3) of the same Act, carries a maximum fine of RM500,000 or imprisonment for up to two years, or both, upon conviction. The offender may also be fined RM5,000 for each day the offence continues after conviction. — Bernama

Penang welfare department rescues 20 children, including baby, from shady warehouse ‘centre'
GEORGE TOWN, July 28 — The Penang State Welfare Department (JKM) rescued 20 children, including a 15-day-old baby girl, in a special operation at a warehouse and house in Bukit Mertajam last week. JKM, together with the police, raided the premises, believed to have been turned into an unregistered learning centre, after receiving public complaints about suspicious activities. State social development, welfare and non-islamic religious affairs committee chairman Lim Siew Khim said that after monitoring the premises, JKM observed groups of children entering and leaving the warehouse under suspicious circumstances. The special operation on July 21 found that the children kept at the premises were believed to be deprived of basic needs such as food, clothing, and safe shelter. Lim said the children and woman rescued were believed to be of various nationalities. She said some could converse in Mandarin but had limited proficiency in the Malay language. The rescued children were aged between 15 days and 16 years, and consisted of 10 boys and 10 girls. 'Preliminary investigations revealed that 12 children including the baby do not have birth certificates, six had valid documents but do not have parents or guardians, and two have been handed over to relatives as their legal guardians,' she said. She said the condition of the warehouse was unhygienic and unsuitable for living, especially for children. 'The place is not a care home or an educational centre, children should not be living there,' she said. Lim said five local adults, suspected of acting as guardians of the place, were detained during the raid and are now under police investigation. 'My office had received public complaints since last year but during initial visits and inspections, we did not find any children there,' she said. She said JKM had to continuously monitor the premises before taking further action. The rescued children have been placed in designated safe places after the Bukit Mertajam Court approved temporary custody orders allowing JKM to take the children under its care. 'Health screenings were also conducted at Seberang Jaya Hospital with the involvement of JKM psychologists,' she said. Meanwhile, she said a special task force was set up to coordinate documentation procedures and to investigate the background of each child. 'We are also investigating whether there are elements of neglect that could lead to abuse,' she said. She said each step taken will be in the best interest of the children. As the police are also investigating the matter, Lim urged the public not to speculate on the case.

No arrests yet, but MACC eyes more suspects in RM950m e-waste smuggling case
KUALA LUMPUR, July 28 — The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has recorded statements of 32 individuals to assist in the investigation into the scrap metal and e-waste smuggling syndicate following raids in five states recently. According to a source, the MACC is identifying several other individuals to assist in the investigation, and also conducting further investigations into corruption elements under Section 16 and Section 18 of the MACC Act in the case. Court dismisses lawsuit by sisters seeking declaration they were never Muslim
KUALA LUMPUR, July 28 — The High Court in Shah Alam here has dismissed a lawsuit from twin sisters contesting their conversions to Islam. Judicial Commissioner Rozi Bainun ruled that the matter of religious status falls under the jurisdiction of the Shariah Court, Free Malaysia Today reported. She noted that the sisters had already initiated proceedings in the Shariah Court to determine their status but later withdrew the case. Rozi said the case should not have been withdrawn and urged the pair to present witnesses and evidence to support their claims of forced conversion. The sisters, now 26 years' old, alleged that they were compelled to convert to Islam at the age of 14 by their biological mother. Their mother, who had embraced Islam after remarrying a Muslim man, brought them to the Muslim Welfare Organisation Malaysia (Perkim) office in 2013. There, the twins said they were made to recite the 'kalimah shahada', the Islamic declaration of faith, without understanding its meaning and later received conversion certificates. They claimed they have never practised Islam, continued observing Taoist beliefs, and sought a court declaration that they were never Muslims, naming the Selangor government and Islamic council as defendants.
