Golf expert names unrepeatable reason why Rory McIlroy will win PGA 'battle royal' and make it 2 Majors in a row
Masters winner McIlroy will bid to equal Sir Nick Faldo's UK record of six Majors as he returns to Quail Hollow
US Tour legend Rich Beem reckons Rory McIlroy is the hot favourite to win this week's US PGA and get halfway to a calendar Grand Slam.
Beem is predicting a 'battle royal' with world No.1 Scottie Scheffler in the second Major of the season.
Masters winner McIlroy will bid to equal Sir Nick Faldo's UK record of six Majors as he returns to Quail Hollow, where he has already won four times.
Jordan Spieth dubs the North Carolina venue 'Rory McIlroy Country Club'.
And 2002 PGA champion Beem joked: 'I think 'Quail McIlroy Hollow' is the official name of the course these days – it seems like he owns the joint.
'He plays it differently to anybody else. He is able to take the bunkers out of play and it plays right into his hands.
'His final round last year was a masterpiece.'
Victory would put McIlroy halfway to completing a feat never achieved – winning all four modern Majors in the same year.
And the last leg will be a home Open for the Irishman at Royal Portrush.
'Everyone's talking about the Grand Slam but Rory's only got one leg of it,' Beem warned. 'Get No.2 first.
'Expectations could well slow Rory down. But it would be amazing.'
Scheffler gave warning he is back in the groove by posting a 31-under par score to win his first PGA Tour event of the season at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson.
'If Rory had shown up and had his absolute A game, he was not going to beat Scottie last week,' Beam said.
'But it all depends on the course. When Rory has his best golf at Quail Hollow, Scottie is not going to beat him. It could be a battle royal.'

The 23-year-old captained Portugal in their tournament opener against France on Wednesday. The nations eventually played out a goalless draw, as Bernardo completed the full 90 minutes. Read more: Alongside the French, Portugal are in Group C, with Poland and Georgia. Next up for Rui Jorge's side is the former, with the matchday two clash taking place this Saturday, June 14 at 8pm. How to watch Celtic's Paulo Bernardo in under-21 Euros for FREE The match between Portugal and the Poles will be shown live to watch for FREE on TV channel 4seven. You can also live stream the game via the Channel 4 app. Should Bernardo play, as is expected, it will be his 30th appearance for Portugal's under-21s. Reaching such a number would mean he becomes the most capped player for the age group, moving him one ahead of Everton and Valencia midfielder Manuel Fernandes. In other news, Benjamin Nygren is reportedly expected to join Celtic. The 23-year-old scored 16 goals in 32 games for Danish top-flight outfit Nordsjaelland last season. The Parkhead club have been linked with a move for Nygren over the past 48 hours, and now well-placed Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri claims that the player has chosen to join Celtic over Anderlecht following talks. The Swede is now expected to complete his move to Glasgow's east end.

Ex-Celtic midfielder's verdict on Odsonne Edouard return
The French forward left Celtic Park in 2021, joining Premier League side Crystal Palace after a successful four-year stint in Glasgow. Edouard scored 87 goals and provided 37 assists in 179 appearances for the Hoops. Read more: However, with his future at Palace uncertain, Allan was asked if his old club might be interested in their former star. Speaking on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard, Allan said: "I would, yeah. "Fantastic player. "It's obviously a position that Celtic will be looking to add to." Allan also suggested Edouard could bolster Celtic's attacking options alongside Daizen Maeda. He said: "I think we might see Daizen Maeda go back out to that wide area, where he was so effective in terms of his pressing and getting up and down the pitch. "He'll be looking to add to his goal tally come next season. "I think there's no question that it's an area of the park where Celtic need to strengthen." The 27-year-old Edouard has one year left on his Palace contract after a lacklustre loan spell at Leicester City. Allan, however, foresees a potential hurdle in a Celtic return: "I think the problem with the boys that are playing in the Premier League is that there's now the chance to go to the Saudi League, where they can earn ridiculous amounts of money." Allan also expects Celtic to scout for another potential star like Edouard.

Scott Allan gives verdict on Odsonne Edouard Celtic return
Edouard departed Parkhead in 2021 for Premier League outfit Crystal Palace. The Frenchman enjoyed a successful four years at Parkhead, scoring 87 goals and assisting 37 across 179 appearances in all competitions. Read more: With his future uncertain this summer, Allan was asked whether Edouard may be on the radar of his old club: "I would, yeah," he said live on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard. "Fantastic player. It's obviously a position that Celtic will be looking to add to. "I think we might see Daizen Maeda go back out to that wide area, where he was so effective in terms of his pressing and getting up and down the pitch. "He'll be looking to add to his goal tally come next season. I think there's no question that it's an area of the park where Celtic need to strengthen." Now 27 years of age, Edouard currently has a year remaining on his Palace contract after a far from inspiring loan spell at Leicester City. Although his stock might be low, Allan sees one potential issue with a move: "I think the problem with the boys that are playing in the Premier League is that there's now the chance to go to the Saudi League, where they can earn ridiculous amounts of money," he said. "The Kieran Tierney one is completely different because he's a huge Celtic fan and he's been dying to get back home and probably feels like he's got unfinished business at Celtic. "So it'll be interesting but I do feel that Celtic will be looking to find the next Odsonne Edouard where they can get a tune from them and then make money from them."
