Entering Sunday, a total of five UW alumni suited up for the NFC or AFC Championship contests. In the early window, Washington Commanders offensive linemen Tyler Biadasz and Michael Deiter laced up for a match against the Philadelphia Eagles and former Badger linebacker Zack Baun.
Baun, fresh off his All-Pro regular season in his first campaign with Philadelphia, was the defense's driving force in the Eagles' 55-23 blowout win. The five-year NFL veteran finished with 12 total tackles, eight solo tackles, one tackle for loss and one fumble recovery.
Baun will play in his first career Super Bowl, while it is the organization's second in the last three seasons.
In the AFC championship game, the two-time defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs and linebacker Leo Chenal defeated the Buffalo Bills and guard David Edwards in another thriller.
Chenal finished with two total tackles Chiefs' narrow 32-29 win. Remarkably, Chenal will appear in his third consecutive Super Bowl. The Chiefs, led by all-time great quarterback Patrick Mahomes, have a chance to be the first team to ever win three straight Super Bowls.
Baun's individual season is among the most outstanding across the league in 2024, while Chenal's team is inarguably the most prolific of the past decade. In about two weeks, only one of the former Badger greats will hoist the Lombardi Trophy.

Eagles Offense Has Top Supporting Cast in League
Eagles Offense Has Top Supporting Cast in League originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Life is good for the Philadelphia Eagles. Even after winning Super Bowl LIX last February, the organization is considered a favorite to repeat as champions for the 2025 season. Advertisement There are many reasons for this. Philadelphia has a top front office that is always looking to improve the current roster. Their coaching staff remains underrated. The true calling card, though, comes with their dominant roster. Even after losing several starters from their Super Bowl team, the Eagles have stars all across the ball. This is true specifically on the offensive end. FOX Sports' David Helman believes that the Eagles have the best supporting cast for quarterback Jalen Hurts. "The top spot might be the easiest to figure out in this entire exercise," Helman said. "The Eagles return 10 of 11 starters from the unit that cruised to a Super Bowl title, and they even did a nice job creating competition for Mekhi Becton's vacant guard spot by trading for Kenyon Green. Advertisement "They have the best running back in football, an elite receiver duo, a quality tight end and the top offensive line in the too much talent here to lose sleep over it." It's hard to argue against Helman. There's a reason why the Eagles have been so good in recent years, and it is because they continue to build a roster full of talented stars. The more stars they accumulate, the more dominant they become. And that doesn't even begin to mention how consistent of a winner Jalen Hurts has been as a quarterback with this talent. Shedeur Sanders could break a glass ceiling
About a month after a dramatic slide in the NFL Draft, talk is growing that Shedeur Sanders could start at quarterback for the Cleveland Browns. The former HBCU Player of the Year at Jackson State and standout at Colorado has made headlines throughout mini-camp - and the buzz keeps building. Tony Rizzo of ESPN Cleveland discussed a recent report expressing hope that Sanders will be the Browns' starting quarterback. "Something tells me this is going to work out in a weird way," Rizzo said. "The Browns told you they liked Dillon Gabriel more when they drafted him in the third round. But maybe Shedeur can impress enough to change their minds." Sanders was picked by the Browns in the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft. That came after early talk of him being a top-five selection. His fall to Day Three became a major storyline and sparked debates on-air and online. 'Listen, in that building, there are people who believe that Shedeur can 100 percent be the starter of this football team,' Kimberly A. Martin said on ESPN's Get Up. 'You said it's up to the Browns to give him the chance. It's also up to Shedeur to do the work. People there say he's soaking up everything like a sponge." If Shedeur gets on the field - starter or not - he'll be breaking a barrier for HBCU quarterbacks. He spent two years under his father, Deion Sanders, at Jackson State. He won SWAC and FCS Freshman of the Year in 2021 and SWAC Player of the Year in 2022 before transferring to Colorado. No HBCU quarterback has taken an NFL snap since 2015. That year, former Alabama State star Tavaris Jackson subbed in for Russell Wilson with the Seahawks. Jackson was also the last HBCU quarterback drafted before Sanders.
