Lorde made an unexpected appearance at a Lorde-themed club night in Sydney on Sunday, delighting fans at Mary's Underground.
The event was a celebration of the New Zealand artist's discography, but few expected the singer herself to show up. According to attendees, she entered incognito before revealing herself on the dancefloor.
EMI Australia confirmed the visit was Lorde's 'impromptu decision,' with no label coordination. Fan Andrew Fraser said she mingled with attendees, dancing, greeting fans, and listening to stories about how her music impacted them.
'She almost refused to leave when her management were trying to usher her out,' the venue added.

During the night, Lorde joined the DJ booth and lip-synced to her remix of Girl, so confusing. She also sang along to her current single What Was That, which debuted last month at another surprise fan event in New York's Washington Square Park.
That gathering had to be shut down by police due to crowd size, and footage from it later featured in the single's official video.
Lorde's Sydney appearance comes just a month before the release of her highly anticipated new album Virgin, set for June 27. It will be her first studio album in four years.

Kim Kardashian shows support for Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds amid ongoing Taylor Swift lawsuit drama

Kim Kardashian made waves on social media Sunday by showing support for her rival Taylor Swift's former confidantes, Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds, amid ongoing tensions in their circle. Kardashian, 44, posted a heartfelt tribute on Instagram for her son Psalm's sixth birthday party, but the timing of her gesture has raised eyebrows, as Lively and Swift's friendship has been strained due to a lawsuit. The reality star, who boasts 356 million Instagram followers, shared a series of images from the Deadpool and Wolverine-themed birthday bash she threw for Psalm, complete with custom decorations and a cake featuring the two characters. Although the post was a simple celebration of her son's milestone, Kardashian's choice to publicly showcase support for Lively and Reynolds comes at a time when Swift is reportedly distancing herself from the actress due to a growing legal dispute. Sources close to Swift have revealed the singer is frustrated with Lively, particularly amid the ongoing litigation related to It Ends with Us, the movie Lively is working on with Justin Baldoni. 'Right now, if Taylor had one wish, it would be that she never met Blake,' a source told Daily Mail. Swift has reportedly come to see red flags in the friendship that caused her more stress than it was worth. Kardashian's public endorsement of Lively and Reynolds couldn't come at a more critical time. The actors, who once enjoyed a close friendship with Swift, have recently been entangled in the drama surrounding the lawsuit. Kardashian's gesture, shared with nearly 350,000 likes, was noticed by several notable figures, including her sister Khloé Kardashian, who sent a heart-filled response to the post. The underlying tensions between Swift and Kardashian date back to the infamous 2009 MTV Video Music Awards when Kanye West interrupted Swift's speech, sparking years of animosity. While the two stars briefly reconciled, the situation reignited with West's 2016 song Famous, and the public fallout between Swift and Kardashian deepened. Kardashian's tweet, calling Swift a 'snake' in 2016, only escalated the feud, which continues to simmer today.

SAG-AFTRA files complaint against Fortnite over AI use of James Earl Jones' Darth Vader voice

SAG-AFTRA has filed an unfair labor practice complaint against Epic Games' Llama Productions for using AI to recreate James Earl Jones' voice as Darth Vader in Fortnite without union consent. The union claims Epic bypassed human performers in favor of AI technology during a Star Wars-themed mini-season and failed to notify or negotiate with SAG-AFTRA. 'They chose to replace the work of human performers with AI technology,' the union stated. Although Jones passed away in 2024 at age 93, he had previously approved the use of his archival recordings to recreate his iconic voice for future Lucasfilm projects. According to Disney and Epic, his family also approved the voice's use in Fortnite, emphasizing his desire to keep Darth Vader's legacy alive for fans of all ages. SAG-AFTRA, however, insists this usage was not cleared through proper union channels. 'We welcome new technologies,' the union said, 'but we must protect our members' right to bargain terms around AI-generated performances.' This complaint comes amid an ongoing strike between SAG-AFTRA and several game companies, including Epic's Llama Productions. Recent contract negotiations addressed AI, removing a controversial one-time payment clause and requiring fair compensation for AI-based digital replicas. The latest Fortnite update lets players interact with Darth Vader via conversational AI. Epic claims all player audio is securely processed and not stored. Despite family approval and technological advancements, SAG-AFTRA's complaint underscores the ongoing debate around AI, voice actors' rights, and ethical usage of digital likenesses in gaming.
