Army veteran takes us inside Drake Maye's Super Bowl surprise
BOSTON -- New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye is on his way from the Pro Bowl to the Super Bowl this week. He won't be playing in the big game, but the 22-year-old will be rendezvousing with a special guest.
Two weeks ago, Army veteran Matt Jabaut received a huge surprise. As the unsuspecting sergeant was being interviewed about the American Legion in Lewiston, Maine, he received a tap on the shoulder.
"Drake Maye grabbed me on the shoulder, and it took me a minute to put the context together of the face and the space," Jabaut told Nick Giovanni of WBZ-TV Sports. "Then I realized, 'Oh, wow! This is really happening right now.'"

It was a moment the lifelong Patriots fan never saw coming. And that was before Maye broke out a pair of tickets to Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans for Jabaut, courtesy of USAA and the NFL.
"Just the idea of meeting him and that kind of stuff, it was kind of really, really cool and enough at the moment," recalled Jabaut, who served seven years as an Army medic and was deployed to Kuwait and Iraq. "And then when he pulled out two Super Bowl tickets, I was just kind of overwhelmed from that perspective to kind of be recognized and to have that kind of opportunity to go do a bucket list kind of thing like that."
Spending time with Drake Maye
After the Patriots quarterback gave Jabaut the two tickets, Jabaut gave Maye a tour of the post.
"He's just a really good guy," Jabaut said of Maye. "The whole time he was appreciative, enjoyed the moment, enjoyed seeing the history."
Maye then left another impression on Jabaut as the two got to play a game of catch outside.
"He took it easy on me at first, until I think he realized I could throw a little bit and catch a little bit. The last couple, he zipped a couple at the end to me," said Jabuat. "That kind of caught me off guard. I needed a little adjustment there on a couple of them."
"But we didn't let the ball hit the ground, which is the important thing," added Jabuat.
Sgt. Jabaut plans to take his fiancée, Caroline (who served in the Navy) with him to Super Bowl LIX between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles. But he'll reunite with Maye again in New Orleans at the USAA Salute to Service Lounge.

Brandon Beane, the Bills' general manager, spoke out recently with a new update on Cook and the contract situation the two sides are facing. "Our interactions with Jimbo have been good the whole time throughout," Beane said. "I know he wasn't here (earlier this offseason), so everyone just draws their own conclusions. When you're talking about it, it's voluntary. We know that, we've had (players miss) it before, even with players who weren't lobbying for a new contract or anything like that." Basically, Beane does not seem too worried about the team's current status with Cook. He didn't touch on anything to do with potential progress with the running back, but he doesn't see any major situations to worry about right now. During the 2024 NFL season with Buffalo, Cook played in 16 games. He carried the football 207 times for 1,009 yards and 16 touchdowns, averaging 4.9 yards per carry. In addition, he caught 32 passes for 258 yards and two more scores. It remains to be seen if they'll be able to do that. Hopefully, there will be no more drama between the two sides. Cook may leave next offseason if he doesn't get a new deal from Buffalo, but he could still be a very important piece towards pursuing a championship in 2025. NFL analyst outlines unlikely scenario where Bill Belichick lands with Giants There was a time when the New York Giants would have considered finally hiring Bill Belichick to be their head coach. Many close to the team don't ever see this coming to fruition, although crazier things have happened. That hasn't precluded figures in the national football media from continuing to connect Belichick to the Giants, where he won two Super Bowls as Bill Parcells' defensive coordinator nearly four decades ago. Belichick is set to coach the University of North Carolina Tar Heels this season, but the gig could end up being short-lived for several reasons. That would put a 74-year-old Belichick back on the NFL coaching carousel next spring, a ride that has not been kind to him since he left the New England Patriots after the 2023 season. From Joel Klatt of FOX Sports: Let's be honest, Belichick isn't going to feel a lot of pressure at UNC. If this doesn't go his way, he's not going to lose a lot of sleep over this. Rather, the pressure is on the fan base. You can tell that the fan base is invested in this in a way that's similar to Colorado and Deion Sanders. They hired possibly the best coach in NFL history, so maybe they're just happy he's in Chapel Hill. That's why the pressure doesn't ratchet up in UNC's schedule. It ratchets in the New York Giants' schedule, or another NFL team that could be a potential suitor for Belichick. Belichick can certainly pay the $1 million to get out of his contract, and if he has the opportunity to coach the Giants (who he has a history with) or another NFL team, he could opt to go that route. So, I think the pressure point date here is Dec. 1, when the Giants take on the New England Patriots right before their bye week. If New York is 2-11 entering that game and loses, do you think Brian Daboll is getting fired right after? I think he could. That's also right when the college football regular season ends. The Giants wouldn't be able to name their next head coach right after, but Belichick could have an inkling on whether he could become their next head coach around that date. That's a bit of a dot-connecting exercise by Klatt. He could end up being closer than we think, though. The Giants are up against the NFL's toughest schedule, but they are better this year, too, so that could be a wash. With more experience at quarterback and more depth overall up and down their roster, the Giants could be closer to a .500 team in 2024. That won't prompt a change in the coaching ranks, but if it does, Belichick isn't likely to be on the top of their shortlist for the job.

Tennessee Titans have two of NFL's worst contracts entering 2025 The Tennessee Titans had an aggressive offseason knowing they needed to build around whichever player they selected with the No. 1 overall pick. That player wound up being quarterback Cam Ward out of Miami, a move that has given some new hope to a franchise that hasn't reached the playoffs in three consecutive seasons. However, the offseason also included some questionable moves. With Mike Borgonzi taking over as the general manager for the first time in his career. When looking at the worst contracts across the NFL, the Titans were featured twice on the list from Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report. Cornerback L'Jarius Sneed, with his four-year, $76.4 million deal, came in at No. 9 on the list. It's easy to understand the rationale behind the Tennessee Titans' 2024 trade to acquire cornerback L'Jairus Sneed. Good cornerbacks are hard to find, and Sneed had excelled in Steve Spagnuolo's defense with the Kansas City Chiefs. Still, it was odd to see Tennessee immediately give a 27-year-old corner who had never been to a Pro Bowl a deal worth $19.1 million annually—which has him as the league's 11th-highest-paid cornerback a year later. Borgonzi inherited that contract, so it's difficult to hold that deal against him. However, coming in at No. 3 on the list was arguably the biggest move Borgonzi made during free agency: signing Dan Moore Jr. to a four-year, $82 million deal. The Titans entered free agency knowing that they were likely to use the No. 1 overall pick on Miami quarterback Cam Ward. Therefore, aggressively addressing the offensive line was logical. However, there isn't a world in which Moore should be the league's 10th-highest-paid tackle in terms of annual salary, which he currently is. Fortunately for the Titans, they have a quarterback on a rookie contract so they can afford to overpay right now for some lesser-tiered players. With that said, there's a good chance these deals will become even more of a talking point in the future.
