Locals are being urged to plan ahead and enjoy an action packed weekend when Ironman UK comes to Bolton this summer.
Bolton Council have announced which roads will be closed for the weekend now to allow people to prepare for the three-day sporting festival in June.
Bolton Ironman 70.3 will be returning to the town from Friday, June 6 to Sunday, June 8.
Thousands of athletes are expected to take part in the three different events, with temporary road closures needed to keep residents, competitors and spectators safe.
The closures will be similar to those put in place during previous years.

Along with the Ironman 70.3 competition itself on Sunday – there will also be the Night Run on Friday and Ironkids on Saturday.
The temporary closures for Ironman 70.3 will extend from Pennington Flash to Bolton, mainly affecting Chorley New Road and the town centre.
The town centre and Middlebrook retail park will be open as normal all weekend.
Anyone driving into the town centre is advised to park at one of the car parks, which will be open as normal.
Anyone heading to Middlebrook retail park from Bolton is advised to use Wigan Road (A676/A58) to Manchester Road/Chorley Road (A6) and then use De Havilland Way (A6027).
A spokesperson for Bolton Council said: 'Thousands of local people and visitors will be taking part in and enjoying our three IRONMAN events and we are sure that there will once again be a fabulous atmosphere.
'But with so many people taking part, including children, we are asking everyone to help us make safety the highest priority.
'Temporary road closures are an unavoidable part of large events and while every effort is made to keep disruption to a minimum, we strongly advise residents and visitors to check the route maps and plan ahead accordingly.'

Less than a month before Rockford's Ironman triathalon, volunteers still needed

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — With less than a month remaining until Ironman Rockford, a 70-mile triathlon race, organizers say they are still in need of volunteers to help with the event. The inagural event is a 70.3-mile half-distance triathlon that comprises swimming, cycling, and running. The swimming leg of the Rockford race will take place in the Rock River, officials said. The running portion was originally going to take place on Madison Street, but due to construction, a new plan was used to utilize Water Street. 'We're going to come through the Sports Factory parking lot. We are going to have to turn left on State Street. We're going to go up Water Street. They're going to do a little turnaround in the Riverview Icehouse, and then they'll come back and they are going to cross to the west side of the river on the (Jefferson) pedestrian street bridge,' said Lindsey Ironman was founded by Judy and John Collins, who competed in the 1974 Mission Bay Triathlon in San Diego. The event inspired the couple to create a similar race for endurance athletes, leading to what in 1978 became the Hawaiian Iron Man Triathlon. Ironman races are now held worldwide. The is scheduled for Sunday, June 22, 2025. The organizer's biggest worry now is finding enough volunteers. I'd say I have a healthy level of anxiety about it. I know that more volunteers will come. It's really picked up over the last couple of weeks. I think people are starting to hear more about it. There's been more of a push on social about it. It's we'll get there, as I like to say,' said Chris Currently, there are about half as many enlisted volunteers needed to run an event the size of Ironman. 'We've got about 650 to 670 unique volunteers at this point. We could use a few hundred more. I think, generally speaking, for an event like this, we need about 1,200 volunteers,' 'What we're trying to do is create an environment that makes the athletes want to come back and do this race over and over again. We want to put our best foot forward so the athletes feel well supported. They get to stay hydrated, they're well-fed, they're taken care of. So we'd always love to have more volunteers,' Volunteers are needed for race day, and registration can be found or by emailing im70.3illinois@ Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Tributes as much-loved Pembrokeshire event announcer dies suddenly

One of the Ironman Wales commentary team, who encouraged thousands of athletes over the finishing line in Tenby in recent years, has sadly died. Tributes are being paid to Australian Jay Luke, who was a much-loved commentator on the iconic event, alongside Paul Kaye and Joanne Murphy. 'Jay was the life and soul of the red carpet and finish line and made race day very special for so many,' said one athlete, following the sad news shared by Ironman UK. In an emotional Facebook post, the organisation said: "It breaks our hearts to share the devastating news that a dear member of our IRONMAN UK family has passed away. "The life and soul of the red carpet": Jay Luke (Image: Huw Fairclough) "Jay Luke, who has called thousands of athletes across the line during their IRONMAN journey over the past nine years, was part of the fabric of our team. His presence, humour, and unwavering support were felt by everyone lucky enough to know him. "From the jokes, laughs, coffee missions and unmatched travelling cap collection to his infectious energy on the finish line, his absence leaves a huge hole in our hearts. We will carry his spirit in all we do. "We are heartbroken, and our thoughts and deepest condolences are with his wife, family, friends, and all who loved him. "Rest in peace, Jay — it won't be the same without you." Jay Kent helped make the Ironman race day special for thousands of athletes. (Image: Huw Fairclough) Added one tribute: 'Jay was amazing, truly a one-of-a-kind person, events won't be the same without him." Another said: "The red carpet will never be the same again," while there was also praise for Jay as 'one clever and agile commentator'. Meanwhile, an Ironman competitor recalled: "A true part of the epic Ironman experience and him calling me through the finish line is a memory I cherish dearly." Fellow announcer Paul Kaye described Jay's death as 'tragic, devastating news'. He commented: "Victory Alley won't quite be the same again. "Triathlon is a niche sport, and within that niche is a small family of announcers and DJs. "This family lost one of its own."

As UFA Season Looms, Jets Must Weigh The Risk Of Re-Signing Nikolaj Ehlers

The NHL's upcoming group of unrestricted free agents isn't especially deep, and with the rise of the salary cap ceiling to $95.5 million, there will be a temptation for some teams to splurge on UFAs. In certain cases, that will be justified, but in other cases, it's going to be buyer beware. For instance, Winnipeg Jets left winger Nikolaj Ehlers is coming off a regular season in which he posted 39 assists, matching his career-high, and 63 points (only one off his career-high from 2016-17) in only 69 games. The 29-year-old Dane made $6-million this year, and while the Jets have $25.46 million in cap space, we're not sure they want to engage in a bidding war for Ehler's services. Indeed, although Ehlers put up five goals and seven points in eight playoff games this spring, his overall career post-season numbers dip significantly compared to his regular-season numbers. In 674 career regular-season games, Ehlers has 520 points for a point-per-game average of 0.77. However, in 45 career playoff games, Ehlers has produced only nine goals and 21 points, for a point-per-game average of 0.47. Meanwhile, Ehlers' health has also been problematic over the course of his 10-season NHL career, as he's had just three seasons where he played 82 games, and he's played more than 69 games in just two other seasons. Clearly, if you're looking for an Ironman candidate, you're not getting one in Ehlers. From this writer's perspective, you're better off avoiding Ehlers in favor of someone like Vancouver Canucks right winger Brock Boeser, who is a six-time scorer of 23 goals or more. And though Boeser has a more limited sample size in terms of playoff games played, he's been considerably more dependable than Ehlers, posting 11 goals and 23 points in 29 post-season games. As noted, the Jets have more than enough cap space to re-sign Ehlers, but after another season in which they couldn't make a serious playoff run, is it really wise for Winnipeg GM Kevin Cheveldayoff to bring the entire cast of Jets characters back for another year? We're not so sure about that. And if other teams come calling to ratchet up Ehlers' asking price, it might be better for the Jets to let Ehlers leave and invest his cap space in a different player. Cheveldayoff is well-known for doubling down on his core of players, but at some point, it's got to be time to alter the chemical composition of his team, and that means being willing to let someone like Ehlers walk away. Ehlers may become a more reliable playoff performer with another team, but right now, he's far from the most clutch competitor. And if the Jets are intent on switching things up with their roster, bidding farewell to Ehlers might prove to be the smart move.
