GCC chief meets UK foreign secretary
LONDON: Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council Jasem Al-Budaiwi said the GCC member states and the United Kingdom enjoy deep-rooted historical relations and strategic partnership.
The strategic partnership brought the viewpoints of both sides closer to each other, Al-Budaiwi said in a press release following his meeting with British Foreign Secretary David Lammy in London on Thursday.
The two sides maintain similar views on several regional issues, which contributed to security and stability on regional and international levels, he pointed out.
The meeting with Secretary Lammy dealt with the GCC-UK relations and a number of regional and international issues, Al-Budaiwi, said, voicing hope for opening new horizons for cooperation.

Taking to social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Nawaz Sharif offered heartfelt condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the Air India plane crash. In his message, he wrote that the devastating tragedy goes beyond borders and reminds us of our shared humanity. He extended his deep sympathy to Prime Minister Modi and the people of India, saying that his thoughts and prayers are with the grieving families. Sharif's message struck a note of compassion and unity, highlighting how such incidents touch hearts on both sides of the border. LONDON: Britain will not protect Israel as Iran retaliates against overnight Israeli strikes, the defence editor of the Times newspaper said on X, without citing sources. In October 2024, when Iran fired a salvo of ballistic missiles at Israel, Britain said two of its fighter jets and an air-to-air refuelling tanker played a part in attempts to prevent further escalation, but that the jets did not engage any targets.
