Thousands step up in support of health care at UHN Foundation's We Walk UHNITED presented by Rogers English
Other special guests included JUNO Award-nominated singer-songwriter Aphrose, who sang the national anthem during closing ceremonies; Rick Mercer, who delivered an impactful speech about Canadian health care; JUNO Award-winning Aysanabee; actor KC Collins (Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent); JUNO Award-winning rapper and music producer Kardinal Offishall; and Olympian Sam Schachter. Maria Papadakis and Shem Parkinson from KiSS 92.5's Roz and Mocha Show brought energy and enthusiasm as event emcees, with fellow on-air personality Damnit Maurie working the crowd. Lead ambassadors Sangita Patel and Madison Tevlin shared their personal UHN stories and helped pump up the crowd before leading participants on the walk route.
" I had so much fun at We Walk UHNITED and was so happy to help support a place that has made such a difference in my life," said Madison Tevlin, an actor, We Walk UHNITED ambassador, and patient at UHN's Peter Munk Cardiac Centre, home to the world's largest adult congenital heart disease program. "It was awesome to see so many people come out to walk with me – I can't wait for next year!"
The event was a powerful display of unity, community and support for Canada's #1 hospital, with proceeds supporting world-class health care and advancing research, innovation and patient care across UHN's many sites.

In addition to the 5km walk, which also had a 2km accessible route, participants enjoyed a vibrant celebration site featuring live music, family-friendly activities, and an emotional tribute honouring UHN patients and health care workers.
We Walk UHNITED was made possible through the support of volunteers, staff, patients and the entire community who donated and participated. Sponsors include Rogers, Sprott Inc., Globe and Mail, RBC and more. Fundraising will remain open until June 30 at wewalkUHNITED.ca.

Triumph reunites to lay it on the line at Stanley Cup final in Edmonton
EDMONTON – Canadian rock legends Triumph will reunite for a three-song set ahead of Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Final on Friday. The Mississauga power trio — Rik Emmett, Gil Moore and Mike Levine — rose to fame in the late '70s and '80s with hits like 'Lay It on the Line.' The song gained a new wave of attention after being used heavily in Rogers' playoff television promos during its hockey broadcasts. It will be Triumph's first public performance since 2008. The band last played a private set in 2019 at Mississauga's Metalworks Studios during the filming of their documentary, 'Triumph: Rock & Roll Machine.' Levine will not take part in Friday's reunion show, but Emmett and Moore will be joined by three other musicians for the set. They'll perform outside Rogers Place as part of the Rogers Festival at the Final, which also features The Glorious Sons. The appearance is part of Triumph's 50th anniversary celebrations, which include a tribute album out Friday featuring Slash, Sebastian Bach and more. Jury deliberations begin in Harvey Weinstein's sex crimes retrial
NEW YORK (AP) — Jurors started deliberating Thursday in Harvey Weinstein 's New York sex crimes retrial, tasked with deciding — again — a case that encapsulated the #MeToo movement. The seven-woman, five-man jury is considering two counts of criminal sex act and one count of rape, each relating to a different accuser and a different date. In this case, the criminal sex act charge is the higher-degree felony. The jury got the case after a juror was replaced by an alternate after she couldn't come to court due to illness. Weinstein, 73, has pleaded not guilty. Nearly eight years ago, a series of sexual misconduct allegations against the Oscar-winning movie producer propelled the #MeToo movement. Some of those accusations later generated criminal charges and convictions in New York and California. The New York conviction from 2020 was subsequently overturned, leading to the retrial before a new jury and a different judge. Jurors heard more than five weeks of testimony, including lengthy and sometimes fiery questioning of Weinstein's three accusers in the case. Jessica Mann said he raped her in 2013, when she was trying to build an acting career. Miriam Haley accused him of forcibly performing oral sex on her in 2006, when she was looking for work in entertainment production. Kaja Sokola, who wasn't involved in Weinstein's first trial, told jurors that he forced oral sex on her, too, during 2006. At the time, she was a teenage fashion model trying to break into acting. 'They all had dreams of pursuing careers in the defendant's world, the entertainment industry,' prosecutor Nicole Blumberg told jurors in her closing argument Tuesday. Weinstein chose not to testify. His defense called other witnesses, including some former friends of Sokola's and Mann's. Weinstein's attorneys argued that all three accusers consented to Weinstein's advances because they wanted help with their Hollywood aims. All three stayed on friendly terms with him afterward, a point the defense emphasized. 'It's transactional, folks. Yes, he wants to fool around with them, and yes, they want something from him,' defense lawyer Arthur Aidala said in his summation Tuesday. The Associated Press generally does not identify people without their permission if they say they have been sexually assaulted. Sokola, Mann and Haley have agreed to be named.

QUEBECOR FUND ANNOUNCES FUNDING FOR PRODUCERS UNDER ITS TELEVISION PRODUCTION SUPPORT PROGRAMS Français
MONTREAL, June 5, 2025 /CNW/ - The Quebecor Fund Board of Directors today announced the list of Canadian production companies that will receive financial support in the 50th round of the Fund's Television Production Assistance Program, for which submissions closed on April 1, 2025. In this round, the Fund is disbursing a total of more than $2.1 million. Under the Support for the Creation of Intellectual Property component, $785,000 has been granted to four projects from Productions Untamed 5 inc., Écho Média inc., PVP Média inc. and Happy Camper Média inc. The broadcasters supporting the development of these projects are TVA Group Inc., Société Radio‑Canada, Télé‑Québec and TFO. Under the Support for the Production of Intellectual Property for International Markets component, $1,340,231 has been granted in this round to seven fiction series projects from Productions KOTV inc., Zone3 inc., V10 Média inc. (International distributor: Quebecor Content – TVA Distribution), Sphère Média inc., Aetios Productions inc., Duo Productions inc. and Productions Pixcom inc. The selected productions will air in Canada on Société Radio‑Canada, Bell Media Inc and TVA Group Inc. Since its inception in 1999, Quebecor Fund's Television Production Assistance Program has supported a total of 412 projects involving 99 production companies, 49 Canadian broadcasters and 100 foreign platforms and broadcasters with grants totalling more than $108.9 million across all of its components. Of the funding granted under Quebecor Fund's three components since spring 2017, 19% has gone to documentaries, 19% to programs for children/youth, 14% to variety/performing arts, and 48% to drama. Counting this round of the Support for the Creation of Intellectual Property component, launched in March 2017, Quebecor Fund has provided repayable grants totalling nearly $14.9 million to support creation projects in all genres that have received a financial commitment from a recognized French–language broadcasting programming undertaking (BPU). Counting this round of the Support for the Production of Intellectual Property for International Markets component, launched in April 2019 in partnership with the Canada Media Fund (CMF), Quebecor Fund has provided repayable grants of nearly $16.7 million and the CMF $6.5 million, for a total of nearly $23.2 million.
