Is there a dispute between Ram and Yuvan? 'Paranthu Po' director clarifies

Director Ram's much-anticipated film 'Parunthu Po,' starring Mirchi Shiva, is all set for release on July 4. Known for the magical collaboration between Ram and composer , fans were shocked to discover that Yuvan hasn't composed the songs for this film; he's only done the background score. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now This change didn't sit well with fans, who began sending angry messages to Ram. Speaking at the film's first single launch, Ram opened up about the backlash and explained what really happened behind the scenes. Yuvan and Ram: A musical bond fans cherish Yuvan Shankar Raja's music has always elevated Ram's storytelling. From intimate songs to gripping scores, their combo has always hit a rapport with the audience. In Tamil cinema, these directors—Ram, Selvaraghavan, Thiagarajan Kumararaj, , and Vishnuvardhan—follow a brother-like bond with Yuvan Shankar Raja. Therefore, when Ram's film is released without Yuvan's signature tunes, it feels personal for many fans, who are not shy to express their displeasure. Why Yuvan couldn't do the songs Ram clarified that Yuvan was originally on board for the full soundtrack. However, due to timing and travel constraints, with the team rushing to submit the film to the Rotterdam Film Festival and Yuvan being tied up in Dubai, things didn't go as planned. Lyricist had suggested using jingle-style short songs, which required a different setup. Yuvan then graciously suggested that Ram get someone else to compose the songs while he'd still take care of the background score. That's when composer stepped in and delivered the tracks. 'I miss Yuvan too,' says Ram. Ram emotionally admitted, 'I'm a Yuvan fan too. I miss his songs just as much as the fans do.' He clarified there's no fallout between them—it was purely a matter of schedule. 'It wasn't that I didn't want Yuvan; it's that he couldn't do it in time,' he added. Ram's heartfelt explanation not only clarified things but also reminded fans of the respect and bond that still exists between him and Yuvan, a duo audiences hope to see together again soon.

SC notice to Karnataka over ‘extra-judicial ban' on Kamal Haasan's Thug Life

The Supreme Court on Friday issued notice to the Karnataka government on a public interest litigation (PIL) challenging the 'extra-judicial ban' on the screening of Tamil film Thug Life, starring Kamal Haasan and directed by Mani Ratnam. The petition, filed by Mahesh Reddy, contended that the film, despite an approval by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), is being prevented from releasing in Karnataka due to threats and intimidation from extremist elements. A bench of justices Prashant Kumar Mishra and Manmohan posted the matter for hearing on June 17. 'Considering the urgency shown and the issue brought before this court, we issue notice to the respondent,' the bench said in its order. Appearing for the petitioner, counsel argued that the Karnataka government had 'completely capitulated' to fringe elements issuing threats of arson and violence against cinema halls and linguistic minorities. The petition claimed that these threats, sparked by actor Kamal Haasan's recent remarks that Kannada language, have led to an unofficial ban on the film, even though there has been no legal prohibition. Also Read: SC declines Karnataka theatre body's plea for protection to screen 'Thug Life' The controversy began at the audio launch of Thug Life in Chennai on May 24, where Kamal Haasan reportedly said that 'Kannada was born out of Tamil'. The comment drew sharp criticism in Karnataka, prompting the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) to bar the screening of the film and demand an apology from the actor. In a hearing before the Karnataka High Court, Haasan's counsel informed the bench that the actor and his production house, Raajkamal Films International, had voluntarily deferred the release of the film in the state and were seeking dialogue with the KFCC. However, the High Court took a stern view of Haasan's conduct. 'You are not an ordinary man. You are a public figure. You create a circumstance, cause unrest, and now you want protection from the state machinery… This entire situation could have been solved with a simple apology,' Justice M Nagaprasanna remarked during the June 3 hearing on a plea seeking police protection for the film's release. Senior advocate Dhyan Chinappa, representing Haasan, told the court on that day that the actor had expressed respect for the Kannada language and people, and had no intention to offend. 'Apology is required only if there is malice. There is no malice here,' said Chinappa, adding that Haasan's written statement conveyed goodwill and affection but could not be forced into a 'prescribed format.' Describing Haasan's statement as a 'declaration of justification,' the high court also questioned the logic of seeking police protection without first taking steps to de-escalate tensions. 'You want police protection but are unwilling to utter one word that could calm the unrest. You are sticking to your stand because of your ego,' observed the bench while adjourning the matter.

Ballerina: How much does Ana de Armas, Keanu Reeves' John Wick spinoff need to earn to be hit in India?

Ana de Armas is in the limelight because of her latest release Ballerina, which hit the screens in India on June 13 amid decent fanfare. It has created a fair deal of buzz among cinegoers as it is set in the same universe as the John Wick films. This is set to help it open to a good response in India. However, the question is whether it'll be able to enjoy a long run and emerge as successful. With that, here is a look at how much the action thriller needs to earn in India during the full run to emerge as a 'hit'. Ballerina needs to earn Rs 50 crore to be a hit in India Ballerina, the latest release from Lionsgate, hit the screens on June 12. It has garnered attention in India with its stylish trailer. According to Ramesh Bala, a trade analyst, it needs to gross Rs 50 crore to emerge as a success in India. 'See for a Hollywood movie, the US is the main market. In India, it is released on a commission basis. As such, for Ballerina, I would say that it needs to gross around Rs 50 crore odd to be a hit,' he told Indiatimes. He further added that Ballerina is expected to do well in the South, especially the urban markets, as it faces no competition there. Thug Life, which was released on June 5, has run out of steam and proved to be a failure. The Tamil action is directed by Mani Ratnam and features Kamal Haasan in the lead. About Ballerina Ballerina is an action thriller directed by Len Wiseman. The flick centres on the adventures of an assassin and is a sidequel to John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum. It stars Ana de Armas as the titular character with Gabriel Byrne, Keanu 'John Wick' Reeves, and the late Lance Reddick in key roles.
