Its strategic location along the main route linking Aden to northern provinces gives it significant military and tactical importance, especially in overseeing critical areas in Lahj and Taiz.
Throughout the ongoing conflict, Al-Anad has been used by Yemeni government forces and the Saudi-led coalition as a command center for military operations against Houthi forces in southern and western frontlines.

GHF whistleblower reveals ‘Israeli' war crimes at Gaza aid sites

A former security contractor for the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), an aid group supported by the United States and 'Israel', has made explosive allegations to BBC, saying he has witnessed the 'Israeli' military shooting at crowds of Palestinians. He added that never saw such 'brutality and use of indiscriminate and unnecessary force against a civilian population, an unarmed, starving population'. The whistleblower, Sergeant Lieutenant Anthony Aguilar, former veteran of the US Special Force, recounted disturbing incidents, particularly one where an 'Israeli' tank firing a main gun tank round from a Merkava tank into a crowd of people. 'Destroying a car of civilians that were simply driving away from the [aid] site,' Aguilar added, 'I witnessed mortar rounds being fired at the crowds of people to keep them controlled,' he continued. Aguilar described the setup of the aid sites as 'amateurish'. 'Inexperienced, untrained, no idea of how to conduct operations of this magnitude,' Aguilar said that his 'benign' assessment from his time serving in the GHF. 'In my most frank assessment, I would say they are criminal. In my entire career have I never witnessed the level of brutality and use of indiscriminate and unnecessary force.' The GHF, established in February 2025 and funded by the US government, was intended as an alternative to the UN-led aid system, which 'Israel' and the US claimed was susceptible to Hamas diversion. The GHF has denied Aguilar's testimony, calling them "categorically false" and claimed that he is merely a 'disgruntled former contractor who was terminated for misconduct.' Aguilar in return denied the GHF's claims. Widespread Condemnation and Civilian Casualties The GHF's operational model, led by military contractors and operating with "Israeli government oversight" but "without transparency, independence, or accountability," has drawn widespread condemnation. The UN and over 170 charities have refused to cooperate with the GHF, demanding its closure and accusing it of "politicizing and 'weaponizing aid'". Former GHF Executive Director Jake Wood resigned, stating it was "not possible to implement this plan while also strictly adhering to the humanitarian principles". Alarmingly, aid distribution at GHF sites has been described as a "death trap". As of July 15, 'Israeli' forces had killed nearly 700 Palestinians and injured hundreds more at or near GHF distribution points. The UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) recorded 766 killings in the vicinity of GHF sites by July 22, 2025, with the Gaza Health Ministry tracing 70% of hundreds of aid-related deaths to GHF locations by July 1.

Jordan Leads Comprehensive Political and Humanitarian Effort to Support Gaza and Break the Siege - Jordan News

Since the outbreak of the Israeli assault on the Gaza Strip, Jordan has assumed a leading role at both the Arab and regional levels through an integrated approach that combines political diplomacy and humanitarian aid, in support of the Palestinian people and in defiance of the ongoing blockade and aggression. اضافة اعلان His Majesty King Abdullah II has carried Jordan's voice to global forums, most recently addressing the European Parliament, consistently stressing the urgency of ending the aggression and opening humanitarian corridors. Massive Humanitarian Campaign In parallel with the political momentum, and under royal directives, Jordan has spearheaded one of the most extensive relief campaigns to support the people of Gaza. The campaign includes: Thousands of aid convoys and airdrops Reception and treatment of injured children in Jordanian hospitals Continued operation of Jordanian field hospitals in Gaza and the West Bank, even amid the Israeli assault This multifaceted approach underscores Jordan's position as a moral and political voice in the Arab world, blending firm diplomacy with tangible humanitarian impact, and reaffirming Jordan's historic and ethical commitment to the Palestinian cause. Diplomatic Leadership Former Ambassador Jumah Al-Abadi emphasized that the deep bond between Jordanians and Palestinians—rooted in blood and shared history—has prompted immediate and sustained action by Jordanian leadership, government, military, and security apparatus. He noted King Abdullah's relentless international diplomacy—visiting global capitals, addressing parliaments, and engaging decision-makers—especially his recent speech in Strasbourg, which painted a clear picture of the risks and consequences of Israel's actions and urged global intervention. 'What benefits Palestinians benefits Jordanians,' said Al-Abadi, reaffirming that Palestine has always topped Jordan's political agenda and that Jordan has never shied away from its responsibilities politically, economically, socially, and through the Hashemite Custodianship over Jerusalem's holy sites. Breaking the Siege Al-Abadi also underscored that Jordan was the first to conduct humanitarian airdrops and send in medical and food supplies during the siege. Jordan has: Operated mobile bakeries and hospitals inside Gaza Admitted dozens of wounded Palestinians to its hospitals Provided surgical care, prosthetics, and field treatment He stressed that Jordan remains the breathing space for Palestinians, committed to breaking the siege repeatedly and standing by Gaza in solidarity and action. Strategic Support and Lasting Commitment Abdullah Kanaan, Secretary General of the Royal Committee for Jerusalem Affairs, emphasized that Jordan's efforts—rooted in Hashemite history—trace back to the Great Arab Revolt, which rejected British mandates and Zionist expansion. He recalled King Abdullah II's and Crown Prince Hussein's unwavering stance, highlighting the strategic, historic, and humanitarian relationship between Jordan and Palestine, especially Gaza. Kanaan noted that Jordan's diplomatic outreach following the October 7, 2023, escalation has broken not only the physical blockade but also Israel's media and political narratives, through persistent international awareness campaigns. On-the-Ground Impact Jordan's air and land humanitarian convoys symbolize more than aid—they reflect brotherhood and shared destiny, he said. The active Jordanian diplomacy has contributed to growing international condemnation of Israel's aggression. 'The Jordanian soldier who once shed his blood on Jerusalem's walls now lives on in every doctor and nurse working inside Jordanian field hospitals in Gaza,' said Kanaan. Palestinian Appreciation Palestinian Ambassador to Jordan Atallah Khairy expressed deep gratitude for King Abdullah's leadership in: Sustaining humanitarian aid Mobilizing international support Preventing forced displacement of Gaza's population He noted that Jordan was the first to break the siege by air, and most recently sent dozens of aid trucks, whose arrival brought hope and sustenance to a starving population. Jordan also pioneered the use of mobile ovens in Gaza and continues to provide round-the-clock free medical services through its field hospitals. Khairy affirmed that Jordan's unwavering support, politically and on the ground, plays a key role in defending Palestinian rights, halting Israeli plans, and advocating for a sovereign Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital—a step that will decisively advance peace and stability in the region.

U.S. Senators urge Netanyahu to immediately change course in Gaza War

Ammon News - A group of U.S. Senators issued a joint statement on Friday, calling on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to immediately change his government's course in the war on Gaza. They also urged the administration of President Donald Trump to use its influence to pressure Netanyahu to end the fighting and address the dire humanitarian crisis. The senators described the humanitarian situation in Gaza as 'horrific and unacceptable,' citing warnings from over 100 humanitarian organizations, including Mercy Corps, Doctors Without Borders, Save the Children, and Oxfam, about a growing risk of widespread famine. According to the statement, three-quarters of Gaza's population are facing emergency or catastrophic levels of hunger due to the ongoing blockade of humanitarian aid by Netanyahu's government for nearly three months. The limited distribution points of the so-called 'Gaza Humanitarian Foundation' are insufficient, leading to disorganized aid delivery and an estimated 700 deaths. The senators criticized the Trump administration's recent allocation of $30 million to the foundation, bypassing standard procedures and congressional consultation, and disregarding established humanitarian organizations with proven expertise. They highlighted that around 88% of Gaza is now inaccessible to civilians, with nearly two million people confined to a dangerously small area. They warned that the war's continuation without a clear "day after" plan is a strategic error and not in Israel's national security interest. The senators called on the Trump administration to press Netanyahu's government for an immediate ceasefire agreement, the release of hostages, and a large-scale increase in humanitarian aid with reliable delivery mechanisms, including oversight and verification to prevent aid diversion. They also demanded that trusted organizations like the World Food Program be allowed to operate fully, and that UN-led aid coordination mechanisms be reinstated. They urged the administration to either overhaul or shut down the Gaza Humanitarian Fund and ensure greater accountability. Finally, the senators stressed the importance of establishing a viable framework for returning to a two-state solution, allowing Palestinians and Israelis to live side by side in peace, dignity, and prosperity. Signatories: Senator Jack Reed (D-RI), Armed Services Committee Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL), Judiciary Committee Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), Foreign Relations Committee Senator Mark Warner (D-VA), Vice Chair of the Intelligence Committee Senator Chris Coons (D-DE), Top Appropriator for Defense
