Jake Wood returning to EastEnders
Jake Wood is returning to 'EastEnders'.
The 52-year-old actor quit the soap in 2021 after 15 years, with his alter ego departing Albert Square for a new life in New Zealand, but is set to make a shock return to tackle some "unfinished business".
A source told The Sun on Sunday newspaper: 'Jake's return is huge news for EastEnders fans as his character made a massive mark on the show.
'It'll raise some eyebrows after he was absent from the 40th anniversary earlier this year. Bosses are excited about what his character's reappearance means for spicing up the plots.
'There is plenty to go at. Max has loads of unfinished business in the Square and is set to ruffle some feathers.'
And Jake's comeback may have been hinted at by 'EastEnders' boss Kate Oates at last weekend's BAFTA Awards.
The executive producer teased: 'If you like a return, I don't think you're going to be disappointed because there's potentially one on the cards. We've got some uncharted territory.'
Jake admitted earlier this year he missed the excitement of being part of 'EastEnders' but was happy to have said goodbye to the "all-consuming" filming schedule.
He said: 'I don't miss the schedules. Anyone will tell you how hard they are and sort of all-consuming, but obviously I miss a lot of the people.
'When you're at the centre of a big storyline like 'EastEnders' Christmas, something like that — it's a real thrill as an actor to be a part of that, big storylines, big characters.
'I did about two or three live episodes and they were always terrifying, but great fun.'
Jacqueline Jossa, who plays Jake's onscreen daughter Lauren Branning, admitted earlier this year she'd love to see her soap dad return to the show.
She told Fabulous magazine: 'I would love to see Lauren's dad Max [Jake Wood] back at some point.
"There are a couple of people I'd bring back from the dead too, like Lauren's sister Abi, as well as Steven Beale, because I just feel like there'd be so much drama with his mum Cindy.
"He's evil, she's a little bit evil. I just wish he hadn't died, as there was so much room for drama that could run and run."

Poets, politicians and TV personalities announced for Bradford Literature Festival
LEGENDARY poet John Cooper Clarke, BBC broadcaster Mishal Hussain and food critic Grace Dent are among the acts announced for this year's Bradford Literature Festival. Politician Jeremy Corbyn, Gavin and Stacey Legend Larry Lamb, Islamic scholar Shaykh Hamza Yusuf and TV presenter Katie Piper will also be in the city for events during the ten day literary event which runs from June 27 to July 6. The event will take place at venues throughout Bradford city centre, and this year's festival will be the first since swathes of the centre were transformed by new pedestrian areas and green space. This year's programme builds on record-breaking momentum from 2024, when over 155,000 attendees from 24 countries took part in 699 events, a 34 per cent rise in attendance from the previous year. This year's festival will be particularly special – falling right in the middle of Bradford's year as City of Culture. Headliners for 2025 include: • John Cooper Clarke, the legendary punk poet, who will reflect on his extraordinary life before delivering a blistering live reading of his most iconic work. • Grace Dent, in conversation with Nisha Katona, launching the Big Tasty Read, a national celebration of food, literature and community. • Shaykh Hamza Yusuf, one of the world's leading Islamic scholars, appearing in a landmark event exploring compassion and sacred history. • Katie Piper, who shares her empowering new book on ageing, resilience, and redefining life's milestones. • Mishal Husain, BBC broadcaster and journalist, who will discuss her powerful new memoir Broken Threads, tracing her family's journey through empire, independence, and identity across India, Pakistan, and Britain. Other guests during the festival include broadcaster Steph McGovern, journalist and activist Ash Sarkar, politician Jeremy Corbyn, actor Larry Lamb, comedian Jessica Fostekew, poet, academic and musician Anthony Joseph, and comedian, actor and writer, Robin Ince. Beyond the talks and panels there will be numerous events open to the public, from exhibitions and comedy nights to heritage walking tours and live performances and film screenings. James Cameron Confirms His Next Movie Will Be a Fantasy Epic THE DEVILS — GeekTyrant
James Cameron has been burined deep in the world of Pandora for years, but he's announced what his next film project will be. The filmmaker behind Aliens , Titanic , and Avatar announced on Facebook that his next movie after Avatar: Fire and Ash will be an adaptation of The Devils . The Devil's is a brand-new fantasy novel by British author Joe Abercrombie, and Cameron is producing and co-writing the script with Abercrombie himself. The director said: 'I've loved Joe's writing for years, cherishing each new read, throughout the epic cycle of the First Law books, especially Best Served Cold (LOVE IT!), and the Age of Madness trilogy. 'But the freshness of the world and the characters in The Devils finally got me off my butt to buy one of his books and partner with him to bring it to the screen. 'I can't wait to dig into this as I wind down on Avatar: Fire and Ash. It will be a joyful new challenge for me to bring these indelible characters to life.' Abercrombie has built a loyal following in the grimdark fantasy space. His First Law series redefined the genre with its morally compromised antiheroes and sharp, self-aware writing. But, The Devils , which just hit shelves last month via Tor, kicks off a new trilogy, one with a very different premise. Set in a warped version of our own world, The Devils imagines a Europe crawling with unspeakable monsters and under siege by flesh-eating elves. The story centers on Brother Diaz, a weary soldier-priest tasked with assembling a team of both men and monsters to fight back the rising tide of horror. Abercrombie seems just as excited about the team-up, saying: 'I can't think of anyone better to bring this weird and wonderful monster of a book to the screen,' he said in a statement. This isn't the only Abercrombie film adaptation in the works. Best Served Cold , one of his most beloved standalone novels, is currently being developed as a feature film with Rebecca Ferguson set to play the deadly Monza Murcatto. That project is being directed by Deadpool's Tim Miller and is currently in pre-production. Cameron, meanwhile, still has a few stops left on the Avatar train. Fire and Ash , the third installment in his sprawling sci-fi epic, is scheduled to open on December 19th. Two more sequels are planned after that, with tentative release dates in 2029 and 2031. But clearly, the filmmaker is already mapping out his next creative obsession. If The Devils lands with the scope and visual intensity we associate with Cameron, and given the source material, this could be a great new chapter for both the director and modern fantasy cinema. 'Race Across the World' Contestant Dead in Car Crash
Reality TV contestant Sam Gardiner, who as a teenager competed opposite his mother on Race Across the World, has died after a single-car accident. He was May 26, Gardiner was driving by himself through Manchester, England, when the white Volkswagen in which he was traveling careened off the road and toppled over, according to a statement from the Greater Manchester Police. Gardiner was taken to a local hospital, where he later died of his injuries. 'His family have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers,' the statement continued. 'They have asked for privacy at this terrible time.' Gardiner gained worldwide recognition when he competed in the 2019 season of Race Across the World alongside his mother, Jo. 'Sam left us far too soon, and whilst words will never fully capture the light, joy and energy he brought into our lives, we hold on to the memories that made him so special,' Jo and Gardiner's father, Andrew, wrote in a statement released by the Greater Manchester Police. 'As a son, brother and nephew, he was loyal, funny and fiercely protective,' they wrote, adding that he was 'adored by his family.' They said his experience on Race Across the World 'opened his eyes to the wonder of adventure and travel' and that he 'touched everyone he met on the road.''Sam brought warmth, laughter and a smattering of chaos wherever he went,' Jo and Andrew's statement concluded. 'He leaves behind a huge hole in our hearts. We will miss him endlessly, but we'll also remember him with smiles, tall tales, and a depth of love that will never fade.' In a statement shared through the BBC, a spokesperson for Race Across the World shared their condolences on behalf of the series and shared that there would be a private funeral service held for Gardiner at a later date. "We are all deeply saddened to hear the tragic news about Sam,' the statement said.
