CEO of sports car distributor accused of offences including multiple counts of false trading in Singapore
SINGAPORE: The chief executive of sports car distributor EuroSports Global was on Tuesday (Aug 5) charged with five counts of false trading.
Singaporean Goh Kim San, 68, who is also the executive chairman of the company listed on the Singapore Exchange's Catalist board, was also handed 14 more charges under the Securities and Futures Act.
In a statement, the police said that he is accused of six counts of engaging in deceptive practices and eight counts of failing to disclose interest in EuroSports' shares.
Between May 2015 and November 2020, Goh allegedly conducted trades in EuroSports shares, knowing that these trades would likely create a false or misleading appearance of active trading in the company's shares.
He is also accused of instigating two other individuals to procure three nominee trading accounts to conduct these allegedly manipulative trades in EuroSports shares, without the trading firms' authorisation.
A police spokesperson said: '(Goh is said to have) intentionally failed to give written notice to EuroSports of changes in his ownership of (its) shares arising from trades conducted in the three nominee trading accounts.'
His case will be mentioned again in court on Aug 7.
If convicted of false trading and engaging in deceptive practices, he can be jailed for up to seven years, fined up to $250,000 or both for each charge.
If convicted of failing to disclose interest in EuroSports' shares, he can be jailed for up to two years, fined up to $250,000 or both for each charge. - The Straits Times/ANN

Woman loses more than RM2.33mil in elaborate love scam
GEORGE TOWN: A factory programme manager lost more than RM2.33mil after falling victim to a love scam. Penang acting police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Mohd Alwi Zainal Abidin said the 53-year-old victim was introduced to the man by her aunt in February last year. Her aunt met the man known as Perry Chan, who claimed to be a Singaporean residing in Ottawa, Canada, at a seminar in Kuala Lumpur and intended to matchmake him with the victim. 'The victim only communicated with the suspect via WhatsApp,' he said in a statement yesterday, Bernama reported. DCP Mohd Alwi said in March 2024, the suspect told the victim he was running an electric grip installation business with the Oman government. 'The suspect sought the victim's help to transfer funds for the purchase of raw materials for his project, claiming Internet access in Oman was unstable. 'The victim assisted by accessing the man's account and making transfers as instructed, before receiving a call informing her that the transfers had failed as they involved different countries. 'The man then asked the victim to make advance payments for bank service charges, promising to reimburse her,' he added. From March 28 to Aug 18 last year, the victim made 58 transactions amounting to RM1.936mil into nine local bank accounts. In September, the suspect told her that he had deposited a US$404,500 (RM1.72mil) cheque into a Heritage Asset Bank Oman account to repay her. She was later contacted by a 'bank customer service officer' in Malaysia, who said she needed to make payments to cash the cheque. From Sept 25 last year to July 4 this year, the victim made another 13 transactions totalling RM399,407 into five local bank accounts as payment for cashing the cheque.

Zahid's Singapore visit strengthens bilateral ties and trade
PETALING JAYA: Malaysia and Singapore have discussed strengthening bilateral relations and exploring new areas of cooperation, said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi ( pic ). In a statement following his arrival for a two-day official visit to Singapore, he said he also had meetings with the republic's top leaders, including President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Prime Minister Lawrence Wong and Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong, who is also the Trade and Industry Minister. In his meeting with Wong, discussions centred on strengthening long-standing bilateral ties, with emphasis on strategic projects to boost foreign direct investment, and the creation of more job opportunities in Malaysia. Both leaders also explored new cooperation in tourism, Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), and people-to-people exchanges to foster long-term understanding. The two sides also discussed sharing best practices in regulating the gig economy, a growing sector in both countries. Ahmad Zahid said Malaysia and Singapore are reviewing the matter from legal and policy perspectives to ensure gig workers receive adequate protection and have their welfare safeguarded. 'I also shared Malaysia's initiatives to support gig workers through social protection and progressive policies as part of efforts to build a competitive digital economy,' he said. During talks with Gan, both leaders agreed on the importance of fully tapping into Asean's vast potential to enhance bilateral trade. Ahmad Zahid also highlighted Malaysia's position as the region's leading halal hub, supported by halal industrial park infrastructure, world-class certification standards and strong regional trade ties. Gan informed Ahmad Zahid that Singapore had sent TVET trainers to Malaysia, reflecting a joint commitment to improving quality and strengthening the TVET ecosystem. On regional issues, Ahmad Zahid said both Singaporean leaders commended Malaysia's leadership in addressing the Thailand-Cambodia issue under its Asean chairmanship. The working visit concluded with a luncheon hosted by Tharman to mark his final engagement with Singapore's top leadership.
