USC football countdown to kickoff continues—Anthony Muñoz in focus

USC football countdown to kickoff continues—Anthony Muñoz in focus The countdown to USC's 2025 football season is officially on! The Trojans kick off their new campaign 77 days from today. You need something to help you while away the days and hours in the spring and summer. This is one way to do so. In this new series, countdown to kickoff, we will be counting down the days by highlighting a notable Trojan who wore each number. Today, we take a look back at one of the greatest offensive linemen to ever play the game of football, Anthony Muñoz. Position: Offensive line Years played at USC: 1976-1979 Career highlights: Muñoz played at USC from 1976 through 1979. However, he unfortunately dealt with injuries throughout his USC career, and was forced to miss time in three of his four college seasons. Despite this, he was still named a second-team All-American and first-team All-Pac-10 as a junior in 1978. During the first game of his senior season in 1979, Muñoz suffered a knee injury that required surgery and was widely expected to end his season. However, Muñoz defied the odds returning in time for the Rose Bowl against Ohio State. The Trojans won, 17-16, with Heisman Trophy-winning running back Charles White leading the way, spoiling the Buckeyes bid for a perfect season and likely AP national championship. After USC: Sadly, Muñoz did not accomplish much after graduating from USC. All that he did—after being selected third overall in the 1980 NFL draft by the Cincinnati Bengals—was play 13 professional seasons, be selected to 11 Pro Bowls, earn nine first-team All-Pro honors, and win the 1991 NFL Man of the Year (now known as the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year) award. So yeah, a very disappointing resume. Muñoz was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1998. In 2019, he was named to the league's 100th Anniversary All-Time Team. Muñoz is widely considered to be one of the greatest, if not the single greatest, offensive linemen of all-time.

Travis Hunter remains unsigned, Jacksonville Jaguars' rookie contract still in progress

Travis Hunter remains unsigned, Jacksonville Jaguars' rookie contract still in progress From The Insiders on @NFLNetwork: The buzz is real for the #Jaguars and WR/CB Travis Hunter... though his rookie contract may be among the last signed. — Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) June 11, 2025 Jacksonville Jaguars rookie and former Colorado star Travis Hunter has yet to sign his rookie contract with the Jaguars, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. After being selected No. 2 overall in the 2025 NFL draft, the rookie two-way player is still in negotiations with the Jaguars on his rookie deal. Rapoport reported that the prolonged dialogue between he two sides should not cause Hunter to hold out. Hunter has been practicing with the team during both OTAs and this past week's mandatory minicamp. "I don't expect a holdout," Rapoport reported. "We rarely, rarely, rarely see a holdout, but I do think this will take some time. If you're talking about Jaguars fans, you're talking about Jaguars people, I don't think they have anything to worry about ause he's almost certaintly going to be participating in training camp. You'd think they will figure out a way to get it done by then." Hunter is projected to sign a four-year contract worth approximately $46 million with a signing bonus upwards of $30 million, according to Spotrac. Rapoport also said he "feels" Hunter will be the final first-rounder to sign his contract. Hunter has been impressing during practices this spring, shining at both wide receiver and cornerback. He and quarterback Travor Lawrence have been forming a strong connection during workouts this spring. In his final season at Colorado, Hunter won the Heisman Trophy while racking up a Big 12-leading 96 receptions for 1,258 receiving yards and 15 total touchdowns, leading to the Biletnikoff Award as the best receiver in college football. On defense, Hunter racked up 36 tackles, 11 pass breakups, four interceptions, one tackle for loss, and a forced fumble. No matter when Hunter inks his first professional contract, the two-way superstar should be must-see television during his rookie year in Jacksonville. Woman unknowingly bonds with Travis Hunter on an airplane: ‘Nicest young man'

One woman had 'the most wonderful flight home' from Denver, Colorado, thanks to her seat companion: NFL rookie Travis Hunter. Sandy Hawkins Combs shared in a Facebook post May 10 that she met 'the nicest young man' sitting beside her on a plane. Advertisement 'He offered to put my bag in the overhead compartment and helped me with my tray. He was always polite, saying 'yes ma'am' or 'no ma'am,'' she recalled in the post. 'Anyone would be proud to have him as a son or grandson — so polite.' People then began walking by their seats and congratulating the man, according to Combs, who had no clue whom she was seated beside. 'I turned and asked him, 'Who am I sitting next to?' I looked at his Jaguar pants, smiled, and asked, 'Are you an athlete?'' she wrote. 'He smiled and said, 'I'm Travis. Yes, I was drafted by the Jags.'' Unbeknownst to her, Combs was sitting next to a newly minted Jacksonville Jaguars player. Travis Hunter and Sandy Hawkins Combs. (via Facebook) 'I already told my sons I want his jersey,' Combs wrote. Advertisement Raving about Hunter's character, she continued, 'He's so humble and down-to-earth — I would have never guessed he was a professional athlete.' Combs then congratulated the Jaguars on their new player, telling the team, 'You did good! I will be buying tickets.' She also thanked United Airlines for her unexpected seat assignment. The former University of Colorado cornerback and wide receiver went No. 2 at the 2025 NFL draft last month after winning the coveted Heisman Trophy, which named him the top collegiate football player in 2024. During his acceptance speech in December 2024, Hunter became emotional when thanking his family — specifically his dad, Travis Hunter Sr. — for sacrifices they made allowing him to play and excel at his sport. Advertisement 'I want to say something to my father. He's not here. But I know you're watching on TV,' Hunter said, wiping tears from his eyes. 'Dad, I love you. All the stuff you went through, man. Now, look at your oldest son. I did it for you, man.' In March 2024, Hunter memorably surprised his mom with a home in Savannah, Georgia, capturing her reaction in a heartwarming video posted to YouTube. Before showing his mom her new abode, Hunter described the five-bedroom house as 'very, very nice' to his camerawoman and fiancée, Leanna Lenee. When his mom, Ferrante Edmonds, realized she was just gifted a beautiful home, gold confetti erupted into the air amid plenty of smiles and laughter. This article was originally published on
