NADIpreneur Produces 3,390 Women Entrepreneurs
CYBERJAYA, May 17 (Bernama) -- The NADIpreneur programme, an initiative under the National Information Dissemination Centre (NADI), has produced 3,390 women entrepreneurs, accounting for 85 per cent of participants, as of March, said Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil.
He said these women have not only succeeded in entrepreneurship but also served as role models, encouraging others to join the NADIpreneur programme.
'These entrepreneurs are very successful. They have utilised high-speed internet access (at NADI) not only to enhance their skills in specific fields but also to find markets for their products.
'In some places, I found that they were able to produce goods that can be sold internationally. This helps improve household economy,' he said at a press conference after officiating at the 2025 World Telecommunication and Information Society Day (WTISD) celebration here today.
Also present were Communications Ministry secretary-general Datuk Mohamad Fauzi Md Isa and Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) chairman Tan Sri Mohamad Salim Fateh Din.
Fahmi also cited several success stories of women entrepreneurs under the NADIpreneur programme, including a businesswoman from Kuching, who earns around RM25,000 a month selling handicraft products made from beads.
During the same period, the programme had trained 4,000 entrepreneurs, demonstrating its effectiveness within the community, he said.
For this year, the Communications Ministry is targeting 7,000 participants in the NADIpreneur programme to equip more online entrepreneurs with the skills needed to grow their businesses using e-commerce platforms.
'We hope we are able to achieve this target this year. Through NADI, it shows that if you use the internet safely and you know what tools you can take advantage of, you can increase your participation in the economy,' he said.

During its annual general meeting yesterday, secretary Oscar Chai revealed that the 2024 budget had only allocated RM1,000 for land tax, leaving a shortfall of RM3,249 due to the unexpected increase. 'The 2024 budget had only allocated RM1,000 for land tax. This unexpected increase left us a shortfall of RM3,429. 'In addition, Telekom Malaysia's rate hike in communication charges resulted in costs exceeding the initial budget by RM3602.10,' said Chai. The cumulative impact of these increases has led to a deficit of RM802.10, he highlighted. To address the situation, members of the cooperative unanimously agreed to adjust and subsidise the budget shortfalls for land tax and communication expenses. Meanwhile, board chairman Chong Vui Kuok proposed an 8.5 per cent dividend pay-out for the 2025 financial year – the highest in recent years – as a gesture of appreciation for members' continued support and contributions. 'In 2024, the cooperative recorded a total income of RM229, 722.00 and a net profit of RM67,433.00. 'This would not have been possible without the tireless support and trust of our members,' said Chong, adding that the board is committed to giving back to members through meaningful dividends. He further explained that the cooperative's income streams are primarily derived from dividends on investments in Bank Rakyat, agricultural land management fees, and rental income from shop lots and fixed deposits. In 2024 alone, it received RM91,439.15 in dividends from its RM554,207.00 investment in Bank Rakyat, he added. The proposed dividend distribution will be finalised upon member agreement and internal approval. Currently, the cooperative has 300 registered members managing over 300 acres of agricultural land. Beyond financial matters, the cooperative also reported efforts to upgrade and maintain critical agricultural infrastructure – including drainage systems, weed control, and road access. It also announced that new land lease agreements are being finalised to ensure fairness and improved returns for members managing larger land plots. Almost RM800mil in loans for water projects

The Deputy Prime Minister said the projects were among the Federal Government's measures to mitigate the impact of the south-west monsoon which is expected to bring dry weather and potential drought. He said as of May, 28 projects under the initiative were already underway, with 12 in Sabah, two each in Kedah and Perlis, one in Kelantan, three each in Pahang and Terengganu, and five in Sarawak. 'The projects are at various stages of completion. Some are under implementation and seven are expected to be completed this year,' he told reporters after attending a Hari Raya Aidiladha event at Kampung Tupong Jaya here yesterday, Bernama reported. Fadillah, who is Energy Transition and Water Transformation Minister, said the ministry is also focusing on resolving the issue of non-revenue water (NRW). He said NRW was caused by various factors such as system inefficiencies, pipe leakages, and water theft. 'When pipe connections are poorly installed, leakages happen. There are also old pipes that have started leaking. 'Overall, we estimate that the country loses 40% of its treated water. This incurs high costs. So our priority is to identify methods to reassess the piping systems and replace damaged pipes,' he added.

Fahmi: Call data to shape policymaking

He said the requested data does not include identities or any information that could be used to identify individuals. 'The purpose is to collect data for the official statistics of the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM). 'It does not contain any personal information but focuses on trends to enable us to gather more detailed information about quality, engagement levels, and the number of users in specific mukims (subdistricts) or districts. 'Currently, much of the information about the telecommunications sector remains too general,' he told reporters at Lembah Pantai Umno's Perpaduan sacrificial ritual ceremony here yesterday in conjunction with the Aidiladha celebration. He said this new, more detailed approach will enable the government to assess the actual needs of the public and bridge the digital divide more effectively. 'We have also begun shifting from providing general information to focusing on Coverage of Populated Areas. 'This ensures that the data collected under DOSM will enable more planning and policies based on evidence-based policymaking, bringing greater benefits to the public,' he said, as reported by Bernama. Fahmi said the decision was reached through mutual agreement between telecommunications companies and MCMC, involving agencies such as DOSM in a series of workshops held since 2023. 'Discussions have been ongoing for some time, and there are no issues. In fact, I understand that telecommunications companies will not provide any information containing personal data. 'Only anonymised data, processed as thoroughly as possible by the telecommunications companies themselves, will be provided,' he said. MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong recently raised concerns over the issue of data collection. The government's efforts to collate detailed records of phone calls and internet usage from telecommunications firms are a violation of the people's right to their personal data. He also said there is no need to have such detailed information for facilitating policymaking in the information, communications and technology sector, and the tourism sector as clarified by the MCMC. He added for such purposed above, collecting aggregate data was sufficient. Dr Wee said anonymising the data was not enough to maintain the privacy of users, especially in an increasingly connected world. On top of that, he added, there is also data from the mobile app MySejahtera, e-wallets, CCTVs, Touch 'n Go and bank records which can be cross-checked to identify someone.
