Gurugram societies and temples celebrate Janmashtami with grandeur
The International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) Gurugram, located in Sector 67, witnessed over 100,000 devotees and visitors and more than 1,000 volunteers worked to manage the large crowd and ensure a smooth experience.
The celebration featured the offering of 1,008 bhoga items, kirtans, bhajans, and cultural performances. The main event was the midnight abhishekam and maha aarti of Lord Krishna, which was attended by thousands. Special arrangements were made for senior citizens and expectant mothers, including exclusive pick-up and drop-off services from the parking area to the temple entrance.
ISKCON Gurugram also organised a digital Janmashtamifor those who could not attend in person. This feature allowed thousands of devotees to participate in the festival from their homes.
Residents from various societies also shared their joy. 'It felt like a mini-Vrindavan right here in Gurugram,' said Priya Sharma, a resident of Sector 56. 'The atmosphere in our colony's temple was so vibrant and full of positive energy. My children learned so much about the festival.'
Another devotee, Rajesh Kumar from Sector 50, said, 'The arrangements were excellent, especially the special provision for senior citizens at ISKCON. My parents were able to attend without any difficulty, and it was a truly blissful experience for them.'
Rambhadra Das, the temple president of ISKCON Gurugram, said, 'Sri Krishna Janmashtami teaches us that true joy and inner peace come from connecting with and serving Sri Krishna. This occasion offers us a chance to rise above our daily stress and anxiety and experience a divine relationship with God.'

Kite-related disruptions on metro network fell sharply on I-Day: DMRC
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has reported a sharp decline in incidents of kite strings causing malfunction on its network on Independence Day and Janmashtami this year. The transporter attributed the decline to preventive measures and public cooperation. "Incidents of service disruptions caused by kite flying during August have reduced significantly over the years, particularly around Independence Day," it said in a statement. Kite flying during these festivals, especially when done with metal-coated thread, often leads to tripping of overhead wires and delays in train services. According to DMRC, the number of such incidents has steadily reduced over the past few years from 102 in 2021 to 90 in 2022, 33 in 2023, 23 in 2024 and 11 so far this year. To tackle the problem, DMRC said it put in place maintenance teams of five to seven members across all lines. These teams watch out for entangled kite strings, it said. In addition, insulation sleeves on catenary wires at elevated stations, modifying overhead equipment to increase clearance between live and earthed wires, shifting return conductors, and deploying catenary maintenance vehicles during non-operational hours have also led to fewer disruptions, DMRC said. So far, sleeves have been fitted at 20 elevated stations across different corridors, it said. DMRC has also run awareness campaigns cautioning the public against flying kites near the metro's 25,000-volt OHE wires, highlighting the dangers involved.

Janmashtami celebrations held with devotional fervour
Sathupalli (Khammam): Markingthe occasion of Sri Krishna Janmashtami, grand celebrations were inaugurated at the Sri Krishna Temple in Bethupalli village on Saturday. Devotees gathered in large numbers to participate in the festivities, which commenced with special rituals and traditional pujas. The temple's chief priest, Srinivasacharyulu, performed the ceremonies and addressed the devotees on the spiritual significance of the day. He stated, 'In every yuga, Lord Srimannarayana incarnates for the welfare of humanity. In the Dwapara Yuga, He took the form of Sri Krishna, annihilated the evil king Kamsa, and gifted the world the essence of life through the Bhagavad Gita. His teachings continue to guide mankind, and He should be seen as an ideal for all.' The temple was decorated with flowers and lights. A specially adorned idol of Lord Krishna in his child form was the centre of attraction, drawing hundreds of devotees. Special bhajans, cultural programs, and offerings marked the beginning of the multi-day celebrations. The event was attended by prominent leaders including Khammam Parliament Convenor Namburi Ramalingeshwar Rao, State Executive Member Ramesh, Matta Prasad, Banoth Vijay, former Mandal President Palakollu Srinivas, Chanti Kakinada Srinivas, Karri Venkateswarlu, Nagaraju, and others.
