Rio Ferdinand announces new role after TNT Sports exit
Rio Ferdinand announced he was leaving TNT Sports at the end of the 2024/25 season after a decade with the broadcaster, but the ex-Manchester United ace has wasted no time in finding his next role
Rio Ferdinand has announced his new role in Thailand after quitting TNT Sports. The Manchester United legend's last match with the broadcaster was the 2025 Champions League final between Inter Milan and Paris Saint-Germain, capping off a 10-year partnership.
But it hasn't taken the 46-year-old long to find a new job, with the former defender taking to social media to tell his 11.6million X followers about his latest endeavour. Ferdinand wrote: 'Next stop, Bangkok… I'm heading to the EA SPORTS FC Mobile Festival Bangkok — where passion, skill, and football culture collide!'
The event is described as a gathering of "the best FC Mobile competitors from across Asia and the Middle East, global football icons, top influencers'. It will see passionate fans unite for the EA SPORTS FC Mobile Festival, Bangkok — a two-day event presented by Visa, happening June 14–15 at BCC Hall, Central Ladprao in Bangkok, Thailand.
It was reported previously that Ferdinand had rejected a contract extension at TNT Sports, which suggested that the split between the two parties was amicable and that he wasn't forced out.
Reflecting on his departure from the broadcaster, Ferdinand said at the time: 'Since retiring from football, it has been a privilege talking about the game I love for a decade.
'I want to acknowledge the tremendous support from the team behind the scenes, whose hard work often goes unseen but has been essential to our success. As I turn the page to the next chapter, I carry with me countless memories.
"I am excited about what the future holds - spending more time with my family, focusing on Rio Ferdinand Presents and my other business interests.'
Away from his role as a football pundit, Ferdinand has a variety of business ventures. He boasts a YouTube channel with an impressive 1.32m subscribers and a clothing line named FIVE in collaboration with retail giant Sports Direct.
He also has a management company, New Era, which has signed a partnership with Beverly Hills-based talent agency giants William Morris Endeavor (WME).
There's also speculation that a move to Dubai could be on the cards for Ferdinand and his wife Kate, who he met while on holiday in 2016.
Reports suggest the couple has scoped out properties and schools in the United Arab Emirates. They have two young daughters with each other, while Rio has three children from his previous marriage.

Man United complete signing of Brazilian Cunha from Wolves
MANCHESTER, England, June 12 (Reuters) - Manchester United completed the signing of Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers, United announced on Thursday, with the Brazil forward joining on a five-year contract. United triggered Cunha's release clause, which was worth around 62.5 million pounds ($84.12 million), according to a source at the club. The Old Trafford side also have the option of extending his contract by a year. "It's hard to put into words my feelings about becoming a Manchester United player," Cunha said. "Ever since I was a child in Brazil watching Premier League games on TV at my grandmother's house, United was my favourite English team and I dreamed of wearing the red shirt. "I can't wait for the start of pre-season to get to know my teammates and prepare for the season ahead. All my focus is now on working hard to become a valuable part of the team, and helping get this club back to the top." The 26-year-old scored 33 goals and provided 15 assists in 92 appearances for Wolves, with 15 of those goals coming in the Premier League last season. Cunha helped Brazil qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup on Tuesday, setting up the only goal in a decisive 1-0 win at home to Paraguay. The dynamic playmaker helped Brazil qualify for the 2026 World Cup when he provided the assist for Vinicius Junior's goal in their 1-0 win over Paraguay on Tuesday. "Bringing in Matheus was one of our main priorities for this summer, so we are delighted to have completed his signing so early in the window," said United's director of football Jason Wilcox. "He has proved his ability to succeed in the Premier League as one of the most exciting and productive forwards in England during his time at Wolves. "He has all the qualities we are looking for as we seek to build a strong, dynamic and entertaining team capable of challenging for the biggest honours." United finished 15th in the Premier League last season with 42 points. The transfer is a record sale for Wolves, eclipsing the 53 million pounds they received from Manchester City for midfielder Matheus Nunes in 2023.

Report calls for eight-week break & mid-season rest for footballers
The tournament does not end until July 13, meaning Manchester City and Chelsea players could have a gap of just five weeks before the new Premier League season kicks off on August 16. That is two weeks less than the minimum off-season rest and retraining period a group of 70 medical and performance experts have recommended in a new study. England head coach Thomas Tuchel believes the demands of the Club World Cup on City and Chelsea give Liverpool and Arsenal a 'huge advantage' in next season's Premier League title race (Mike Egerton/PA) England head coach Thomas Tuchel said earlier this week that the demands placed on City and Chelsea by the Club World Cup will hand a 'huge advantage' to Liverpool and Arsenal in next season's Premier League title race. The European division of world players' union FIFPRO and Europe's leagues have taken legal action against FIFA over what they see as a lack of consultation by the game's global governing body over the fixture calendar. The scheduling of the Club World Cup within that calendar has been described as a 'tipping point' in the debate by Premier League chief executive Richard Masters. The expert group has put forward 12 'position statements' on player welfare as part of the Delphi Study, which they feel should be adopted worldwide as minimum welfare standards. These included a mandatory four-week off-season break, and within that a two-week blackout period where clubs and national teams should have no contact at all with players. There should then be a minimum four-week retraining period after the off-season break before resuming competitive football. Mid-season breaks should last a minimum of one week, experts said. Premier League players will not benefit from any mid-season break next season, as was the case in 2024-25. A pause was introduced in the 2019-20 season but was dropped before the start of the season just ended, due to the expansion of international competitions like UEFA's Champions League, Europa League and Conference League. The 12 position statements were agreed with the consensus of at least 75 per cent of the experts involved. Among the other statements were calls for mandatory consideration of the travel burden on players and the impact of long-haul flights, as well as specific workload safeguards for under-18 players. Dr Vincent Gouttebarge, the medical director of FIFPRO, said: 'This study presents safety standards based on the considered and independent opinions of medical and performance experts working in professional football who understand the mental and physical strain placed on players. 'If we can all agree that health comes first, then we should take steps to implement these safeguards.'
