Whitney Cummings on turning postpartum struggles into comedy in "Big Baby" tour

CBS News19-03-2025

Comedian Whitney Cummings, co-creator of the Emmy-winning sitcom "Two Broke Girls" and star of the autobiographical series "Whitney," has launched the second year of her "Big Baby" tour after recently welcoming her first child.
Cummings, who began her standup career in 2004 and has released six comedy specials, is focusing her new material on the experiences of motherhood and everyday life.
The 40-year-old comedian jokes about being labeled with a "geriatric pregnancy" by her doctor.
"They start calling it geriatric at 35," Cummings said. "I'm grateful that I did this at 40 years old. If I had a kid even a year sooner, I would have sold it for Taylor Swift tickets."
Cummings froze her eggs at 33, but ended up conceived naturally. She is co-parenting with her child's father, though they are not a couple.
"Let's start co-parenting from the beginning so the kid will never know anything different," she explained about their arrangement.
Cummings' comedy has long been known for its fresh, intelligent approach to taboo subjects. She said she believes discussing intimate topics helps "release shame" and prevents bad choices made under its influence.
"I didn't want to talk about having postpartum depression," she admitted. "I was like, I don't want to talk about this, which means I have to talk about this."
The comedian also reflected on how parenthood shifted her perspective.
"Once I had a child, I was like, oh, I like myself when I only think about myself like 30 minutes a day."
Cummings' "Big Baby" tour continues through its second year with dates across the country.

Legendary R&B group named surprise headliner of Napa music festival

Earth, Wind & Fire will serve as the 'surprise headliner' for this year's Black Radio Experience presented by the Blue Note Jazz Festival, bringing its timeless catalog of soul, funk and R&B to Napa over Labor Day weekend. The nine-time Grammy Award-winning group, whose chart-topping hits like 'September' and 'Let's Groove' have become karaoke night staples, joins an already star-studded lineup curated by festival Artist in Residence Robert Glasper, promoters announced Tuesday, June 10. The three-day event, from Aug. 29–31 at the Meritage Resort and Spa, is also slated to feature Grammy-nominated soul singer Stokley and early 2000s rap, hip-hop and R&B acts such as The Roots, Jazmine Sullivan, Esperanza Spalding, Hiatus Kaiyote, D-Nice, Lupe Fiasco, and others. This marks the fourth annual Blue Note Jazz Festival Napa and the second year of the more intimate Black Radio Experience, which highlights contemporary and legacy Black artists across several genres. After parties over the festival weekend are scheduled on Aug. 29 and 30, boasting DJ sets from Talib Kweli, Questlove, DJ Jazzy Jeff and more. Black Radio Experience will kick off with a private opening dinner and concert hosted by Glasper on Aug. 28. Blue Note Jazz Festival Napa launched in 2022 at the Charles Krug Winery in St. Helena, hosted by controversial comedian Dave Chappelle. He also served as emcee the following year when the festival moved to the Silverado Resort & Spa. The multi-stage festival has seen marquee acts such as John Legend, Chance the Rapper, Mary J Blige and Andre 3000 over the years. Last year, Glasper and Blue Note organizers said they decided to launch the Black Radio Experience as a more intimate spin-off to foster a closer connection between the artists and their fans. It was hosted by Oakland native and radio personality Sway Calloway, who will return this year.

The Emmy-winning animated series Rick and Morty is back for its eighth season. The irreverent series about a mad scientist and his grandson's adventures across the universe premiered in May on Adult Swim. New episodes are dropping weekly through July 27. The series, which stars Ian Cardoni, Harry Belden, Sarah Chalke, Chris Parnell, and Spencer Grammer will also be airing in over 170 countries, so whether you're in the U.S. or abroad, here's everything you need to know about how to watch Rick and Morty Season 8, including where to stream it and how to watch it with the help of a VPN if you don't have cable. Season 8 of Rick and Morty premiered on Sunday, May 25. The series won't land on streaming in the U.S. until after the entire season wraps up — so if you're used to watching Rick and Morty on HBO Max, heads up that you'll have to wait until Sept. 1 to catch Season 8. Rick and Morty airs on Adult Swim. After an entire season is finished airing, it will eventually stream on HBO Max. It is however already available to stream on HBO Max in Australia... There are several ways you can watch Rick and Morty without cable. Adult Swim is available on several platforms, including DirecTV, Fubo, Hulu + Live TV and YouTube TV. Warner Bros. Discovery has also confirmed that episodes will be available to stream in the U.S. on Max, but not until Sept. 1. While the new season of Rick and Mortys won't be immediately available on Max (you'll have to wait until it arrives on Sept. 1), you can catch the past seven seasons on demand on the platform now. If you don't have cable but still want to stream Season 8 of Rick and Morty as new episodes are released, all it takes is a VPN. By using a VPN, you can access new episodes of Rick and Morty when they air in other countries and stream them on demand after they premiere. Just note that the premiere dates may vary. For example, it's scheduled to debut June 1 in the U.K. on Channel 4's My4, and May 26 on the Australian version of HBO Max (though you'll still need your US HBO subscription to watch it). Just set your VPN location to the U.K. or Australia, respectively. A VPN (virtual private network) helps protect your data, can mask your IP address and is perhaps most popular for being especially useful in the age of streaming. Whether you're looking to watch Friends on Netflix (which left the U.S. version of the streamer back in 2019) or tune in to overseas broadcasts, a VPN can help you out. Looking to try a VPN for the first time? This guide breaks down the best VPN options for every kind of user.

Cardi B Embraces Reptilian Inspiration in Nicol & Ford Strapless Dress for ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Awards 2025

Cardi B was honored at the ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Awards 2025 on Sunday in Los Angeles. The Grammy Award-winning rapper received the Voice of the Culture Award at the event, styling a look with sensual, reptilian inspiration. Cardi wore a strapless dress courtesy of Australian fashion label Nicol & Ford. The dress featured a corseted bodice with a plunging neckline and reptilian fabric. The skirt of the dress featured a contrasting reptile print, paired with a flowing silhouette and draped fabric at the drop waist. The 'I Like It' rapper's look was curated by stylist Kollin Carter, who's collaborated with Cardi B on several previous occasions. Carter has also collaborated with notable artists such as Victoria Monet and Kelly Rowland, among others. Nicol & Ford was founded by Katie-Louise Nicol-Ford and Lilian Nicol-Ford. Launched in 2014, the label rebranded in 2017 with the name it has today. The label's fall 2024 collection, titled 'Thorn,' featured a bevy of animal prints, fabric draping and sensual styling. While Nicol & Ford's profile has risen thanks in part to Cardi B's latest styling of one of the label's designs, so too has the rapper's reach within the fashion industry. In April, Cardi joined forces with Revolve Group, the California-based fashion and lifestyle retailer, on an exclusive multicategory venture. The partnership will include beauty and fashion brands. 'People have been expecting both from me. My beauty line, people have been expecting that, like an album,' the rapper told WWD in an interview. 'I personally believe that I put a lot of people on a lot of trends. It's not even about getting paid, but it's not appreciated. I gotta do this for me because I don't get thank yous. If I don't have a good year, I don't get, 'How have you been?' Nobody does that. It's time for me to do s–t for my own self, not for everybody else,' she said.
