Errant Seremban property owners warned to clean up or face court action
Arul Kumar, who also holds the housing and transport portfolios, said MBS has issued 453 notices so far, and 19 owners have already been hauled to court.
"Overall, 306 owners have ignored the notices to clean up their premises.
"So, like the 19 already taken to court, the remaining ones may also face legal action," he said, adding that 147 owners have complied with the notices.
Arul Kumar said MBS has decided to take stern action as some of the properties have been abandoned for decades.
Apart from being an eyesore, they also posed other hazards. For example, he said, some have become termite-infested and the damage has spread to neighbouring properties.
Many also posed health and safety risks, having become hangouts for criminals or lairs for snakes and pests.
"When you do not clean up, you are being unfair to others.
"So, we have no other option but to act," he said after visiting several abandoned units at Lorong Java near here on Monday (July 140.
Arul Kumar said those who fail to comply can be charged under Section 82 of the Local Government Act 1976 for causing a nuisance.
He said some owners had refused to clean up as they know the authorities cannot seize their properties.
"They have been diligently paying their quit rent because they know if they don't, we can seize their property.
"But these same owners have refused to pay assessment, which has now accumulated into millions of ringgit, because they know the authorities cannot seize the properties even if they default," he said.
Arul said MBS may also consider cleaning up some of the properties and billing the owners for the work.
"Apart from the court action, the MBS may consider this option.
"We have to do this to send a message that we are not taking this lightly anymore," he said, adding that the authorities also faced a challenge in tracing some of the owners.
Arul said owners of new properties have also been issued with notices as they, too, have left their properties unattended.
"We have cases where the owners have yet to move in but failed to maintain their units.
"Action will also be taken against them if they fail to comply," he added.

KUALA LUMPUR: The police Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) Intelligence Unit raided two premises selling electronic cigarettes illegally in Kangar, Perlis, seizing goods worth RM315,900 on Friday. Federal police Internal Security and Public Order Department director Datuk Seri Azmi Abu Kassim said the Integrated Operation Op Taring Alpha 3 was conducted together with the Kangar Municipal Council (MPK) in the district. He said the raid followed intelligence and public complaints over the illegal sale of e-cigarettes in the state. "The first raid was carried out in Kampung Baru, Kangar, where 2,083 units of devices and electronic cigarette liquids of various brands worth RM104,150 were seized. "The second raid in Kampung Padang Behor, Kangar, resulted in the seizure of 4,235 units of devices and electronic cigarette liquids of various brands worth RM211,750," he said in a statement. Azmi said the total number of items seized was 6,318 units valued at RM315,900. "MPK issued offence notices and compound offers to the premises caretakers for violations under the Local Government Act 1976. "All the seized items were believed to be intended for sale despite the Perlis government having enforced a ban on the sale of electronic cigarettes and vape liquids since Aug 1," he said. He added that the operation was carried out under the "reform" approach, a collaboration of expertise across various agencies to maximise enforcement effectiveness. "Police together with related agencies will continue to conduct operations periodically to curb the sale of illegal vape and safeguard community wellbeing," he said.

Luxury cars among vehicles seized in Seremban for unpaid road tax, lack of insurance
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 8 — Authorities in Negri Sembilan seized five luxury vehicles during their latest operation for not having valid road tax and insurance coverage. The state Road Transport Department (JPJ) has also impounded a total of 10 high-end vehicles so far this year due to similar offences, director Hanif Yusabra Yusuf said in a report by The Star. 'These vehicles cost hundreds of thousands of ringgit each, but sadly, their owners have not paid the road tax,' he was quoted saying. From January to July this year, the state JPJ issued more than 10,400 summonses to vehicle owners who failed to renew their road tax. In the same period, another 7,812 summonses were issued to motorists whose vehicles did not have insurance coverage. Some of the errant owners had gone more than two years without renewing either their road tax or insurance, Hanif added. 'When we ask why they did not pay, they would just say 'lupa' (I forgot)... that is a lame excuse that we will not accept,' he said. Hanif warned that such vehicles would be impounded until their cases are resolved in court, and reminded the public that under the Road Transport Act 1987, failure to have valid road tax and insurance is a punishable offence. Earlier this week, a transport safety group alleged that luxury vehicle owners often opt to forego obtaining insurance and road tax as it was cheaper to pay the RM300 fine each time they were caught.

MBDK gets tough, home-based chicken traders' goose is cooked

MBDK Corporate Communications Department director Norfiza Mahfiz said the city council seized 78 live chickens from the terrace house. The mini farm was operated by foreign nationals. 'The seizure was conducted under the Local Government Act 1976 Section 81(K) for rearing poultry in a residential area and causing nuisance,' said Norfiza. She said initial investigations revealed chickens were being sold from the house off Jalan Meru for some time. 'The illegal activity had also become a nuisance because of the unbearable stench, and residents had lodged a report to MBDK.' Norfiza said compounds were also issued under MBDK's Food Establishment By-laws 2007 to a slaughterhouse at a light industrial lot. Not doing so could cause diseases to spread,' she said. Norfiza said the authorities would not compromise with operators, manufacturers or wholesalers who flout regulations. The operations involved personnel from MBDK's Health, Enforcement and Licensing departments.
