Thai authorities seize more than 2 tons of crystal methamphetamine worth over $90.8 million
Eight men were arrested Saturday in Rayong province for allegedly attempting to smuggle the nearly 2.4 metric tons (2.6 tons) through the southern border, officials said. They did not elaborate on the intended destination or the drugs' origin.
If sold abroad, the drugs are estimated to be worth over 3 billion baht ($90.8 million), Thailand's Department of Special Investigation said.
The drugs were packed in plastic bags disguised as corn flour packages. Each contained about one kilogram. Authorities said they also seized a van and a truck believed to be involved in the drug smuggling.
Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra thanked officials for their efforts and told a press conference that 'the government is serious about our policies on drugs."
United Nations experts have said neighboring Myanmar is the source of most of the region's methamphetamine and heroin.
A report from the U.N. drug agency last month said the illicit trade in methamphetamine and other dangerous drugs is growing quickly in Southeast Asia, with a record level of seizures in 2024 — 236 tons — a 24% increase over 2023.
The 'Golden Triangle,' where the borders of Myanmar, Laos and Thailand meet, is famous for the production of opium and heroin, which flourished largely because of the remote location and lax law enforcement. In recent decades, methamphetamine has supplanted opium and heroin because it is easier to make on an industrial scale.

'Ketamine Queen' dealer to plead guilty over Matthew Perry death
A dealer dubbed the "Ketamine Queen" has agreed to plead guilty to supplying the drugs that killed "Friends" actor Matthew Perry, the US Department of Justice said Monday. Jasveen Sangha, 42, will admit several charges, including one of distribution of ketamine resulting in death or serious bodily injury in relation to the late star. A dual citizen of the United States and Britain, she is expected to formally enter her pleas in the coming weeks. She has been in federal custody since August 2024. Sangha will become the fifth person to admit playing a part in the death of the beloved actor, who had openly struggled for decades with substance addiction. Perry, 54, was found dead in the hot tub of his Los Angeles home in October 2023. A criminal investigation was launched soon after an autopsy discovered he had high levels of ketamine -- an anesthetic -- in his system. Last month, Dr Salvador Plasencia pleaded guilty to four counts of distribution of ketamine in the weeks before Perry's death. Another doctor, Mark Chavez, admitted last year to conspiring to distribute ketamine to Perry. Plasencia allegedly bought ketamine off Chavez and sold it to the American-Canadian actor at hugely inflated prices. "I wonder how much this moron will pay," Plasencia wrote in one text message. According to her plea agreement, Sangha worked with a middleman, Erik Fleming, to sell 51 vials of ketamine to Perry's live-in personal assistant, Kenneth Iwamasa. Iwamasa repeatedly injected Perry with the ketamine that Sangha supplied, including on October 28, 2023, when he administered at least three shots of Sangha's ketamine, which killed the actor. The Justice Department said when Sangha heard news reports about Perry's sudden death, she tried to cover her tracks. "Delete all our messages," she instructed Fleming. When investigators raided Sangha's home they found methamphetamine, ketamine, ecstasy, cocaine, and counterfeit Xanax pills, as well as a money counting machine, a scale, and devices to detect wireless signals and hidden cameras, according to the Justice Department. - 'Mostly sober' - Sangha is expected to plead guilty to one count of maintaining a drug-involved premises, three counts of distribution of ketamine, and one count of distribution of ketamine resulting in death or serious bodily injury. "She's taking responsibility for her actions," her lawyer Mark Geragos told AFP. Sangha could face decades in prison when sentenced. The other people involved in the supply of drugs to Perry are expected to appear in court over the coming months to learn their fates. Perry had been taking ketamine as part of supervised therapy for depression. But prosecutors say that before his death he became addicted to the substance, which also has psychedelic properties and is a popular party drug. "Friends," which followed the lives of six New Yorkers navigating adulthood, dating and careers, drew a massive following and made megastars of previously unknown actors. Perry's role as the sarcastic man-child Chandler brought him fabulous wealth, but hid a dark struggle with addiction to painkillers and alcohol. In 2018, he suffered a drug-related burst colon and underwent multiple surgeries. In his 2022 memoir "Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing," Perry described going through detox dozens of times. Aurora police, ATF seize dozens of firearms and drugs, arrest TdA gang members in undercover operation
Police in Aurora, along with the ATF, DEA and several other law enforcement organizations, showed off the firearms and drugs seized in an undercover operation that resulted in the arrests of dozens of suspects. Some of those suspects have been confirmed to be TdA gang members. On Monday, the ATF displayed 69 firearms and some of the drugs seized in that operation that started 10 months ago. The undercover operation began when Arapahoe County Sheriff Tyler Brown reached out to federal agents about a spike in crime at the Ivy Crossing Apartments in Aurora. That's where, according to undercover agents, they purchased some of the drugs and guns and agents said they even discussed a possible murder-for-hire with suspects. A total of 30 people were arrested. Law enforcement said they are connected to the TdA gang in Venezuela. "We have seen an impact of what true collaboration can bring. Not only through law enforcement but through the building of trust and assurance to the residents that their safety matters," said Brown. The suspects are facing charges including federal drug trafficking, firearms offenses, and murder-for-hire. The agencies involved include the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office, Aurora Police Department, and the City of Aurora along with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, the Drug Enforcement Administration, Homeland Security Investigations, ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations, and Joint Task Force Vulcan.

Man arrested after police seize cannabis worth £260,000 in raid
A 47-year-old man has been arrested and charged after officers seized cannabis worth an estimated six figures in Dundee. At around 8.35am on Monday, officers raided an address on Blackness Road where they discovered the cultivation, said to be worth around £262,500. The 47-year-old man was arrested and is due to appear at Dundee Sheriff Court on Tuesday.
