Royal Guard celebrates graduation of female cadets

RIYADH — Brig. Gen. Abdullah Al-Rashidi, acting assistant chief of Operations and Director of the Royal Guard's Admissions and Registration Department, graced the graduation ceremony of its female cadets.
Speaking on the occasion, Al-Rashidi congratulated the graduates and urged them to work hard and to use practically what they have learned through the courses while engaging in their duties. He wished them success and prosperity.
The graduation ceremony followed the completion of specialized training courses and programs in VIP security, facility security, and physical education, which qualify them to perform their security duties with high professionalism.
This comes as part of plans to develop and modernize the Royal Guard's work system in accordance with Saudi Vision 2030, which emphasizes the importance of women's participation in military and security fields.
The new recruits expressed their pride and honor in joining this lofty institution, affirming their determination to perform their duties with complete honesty and sincerity in the service of religion, then the King and the country.

Uruq Bani Ma'arid joins International Union for Conservation of Nature Green List
Saudi Gazette report RIYADH — Uruq Bani Ma'arid, one of Saudi Arabia's most ecologically significant protected areas and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, has been included in the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Green List of Protected and Conserved Areas. This recognition confirms the site's global ecological importance and highlights the Kingdom's expanding leadership in conserving arid-land habitats. Saudi Arabia's inclusion of Uruq Bani Ma'arid follows earlier Green List achievements, notably for the Ibex Protected Area and the King Salman bin Abdulaziz Royal Reserve. These milestones reflect sustained progress toward excellence in protected-area management. Uruq Bani Ma'arid spans 12,765 square kilometers at the western edge of the Empty Quarter—the world's largest continuous sand desert—harboring the greatest biodiversity in the Empty Quarter. In 2023, the landscape was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its outstanding natural value. The IUCN Green List sets the global benchmark for effective and equitable protected-area management. To qualify, sites must demonstrate transparent governance, measurable conservation outcomes, and meaningful engagement with local stakeholders. Uruq Bani Ma'arid met these criteria through its integrated planning, resilient ecological monitoring, and habitat restoration programs. Under the stewardship of the National Center for Wildlife, Uruq Bani Ma'arid has successfully implemented a breeding and reintroduction program for the endangered Arabian oryx. Commenting on the occasion, CEO of the National Center for Wildlife Dr. Mohammad Qurban said that Uruq Bani Ma'arid exemplifies what science-guided conservation can achieve in extreme landscapes. "Its inclusion on the IUCN Green List reflects our dedication to protecting biodiversity and delivering real conservation impact at both national and global scales.' He added that this milestone supports Saudi Arabia's contribution to the global 30x30 biodiversity target, protecting 30 percent of terrestrial and marine areas by 2030. It also aligns with the Saudi Green Initiative, which integrates conservation as a core pillar of Vision 2030.

KSrelief signs agreement to build four water desalination plants in Gaza Strip
Saudi Gazette report GAZA — King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSRelief) signed a cooperation agreement with the Saudi Center for Culture and Heritage via video conference to establish four water desalination plants in the Khan Yunis and Middle governorates of the Gaza Strip. The agreement was signed by the Center's Assistant Supervisor General for Operations and Programs, Eng. Ahmed bin Ali Al-Baiz, and the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Saudi Center for Culture and Heritage, Dr. Issam Abu Khalil. Under the agreement, four desalination plants with a production capacity of 10 to 12 cubic meters per day will be supplied. The agreement includes the installation of four 7-kilowatt solar energy systems for the desalination plants, benefiting 300,500 people. This agreement comes as part of the efforts provided by Saudi Arabia, through its humanitarian arm, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre, to support the water and sanitation sector and alleviate the suffering of the brotherly Palestinian people due to the humanitarian crisis they are experiencing.

Nearly 6,000 new urban heritage sites registered in National Urban Heritage Register
Saudi Gazette report RIYADH — The Saudi Heritage Commission announced on Sunday the registration of 5,969 new urban heritage sites in the National Urban Heritage Register, bringing the total number of registered sites to 34,171. This reflects the richness and diversity of architectural heritage in various regions of the Kingdom. The new registration list included several sites across various regions of the Kingdom. The Riyadh Region has 258 sites; Makkah Region: 483 sites; Qassim Region: 761 sites; Asir Region: 3,893 sites; Al-Baha Region: 499 sites; Hail Region: 60 sites; Jazan Region: 8 sites; Al-Jouf Region: 4 sites; and the Eastern Province: three sites. This registration was made in accordance with regulations related to antiquities and urban heritage, and in accordance with the decision of the Heritage Commission's Board of Directors to delegate the authority's CEO to register urban heritage sites. This is intended to enhance the protection of these sites from encroachment or neglect and ensure their preservation for future generations. The commission emphasized that this step is part of its strategic plan to expand the scope of legal protection for heritage sites and enable their rehabilitation in a way that enhances national identity and highlights their cultural and historical value as living testaments to the Kingdom's architectural heritage. The commission called on all members of society to support its efforts to monitor and register heritage sites by reporting them via the "Balagh" service, communicating with the commission through its official social media channels, or by calling the number of the Unified Security Operations Center 911. The commission emphasized that community participation is a key component in preserving and activating the national urban heritage.
