Australia vs West Indies 2nd Test Day 2: Pat Cummins is ‘pure genius, unplayable'

Australia has its work cut out in the second Test against the West Indies with some rearguard action by the Windies' tail frustrating the Aussies.
Half centuries to Beau Webster and Alex Carey helped Australia to a total of 286 on Day 1, and it was a another strong performance by the bowling attack on Day 2 to put the visitors ahead of the game.

John Campbell (40) and Brandon King (75) were the best contributors with the bat for the Windies, as Pat Cummins produced two moments of brilliance.
Cummins bowled a regulation delivery to Keacy Carty, who edged the ball onto his pad, prompting it to balloon high into the air.
The Australian captain sprinted to take a diving one-handed catch at short leg to complete a sensational caught and bowled.
Greg Blewett said in commentary: 'That is a fantastic piece of work from Patty Cummins. Six foot five and the athleticism on show.'
Commentator Adam Collins wrote on X: 'Cummins with his first delivery takes a bat pad short leg catch... but it's c&b with a full-length dive across the surface in his follow-through. He's a ridiculous cricketer.'
Cummins struck again when he bowled an absolute peach of a delivery that jagged back in to clean bowl Shai Hope, moments after setting him up with a ball that swung away.
'That is an absolute peach!' Blewett said.
Bharat Sundaresan posted: 'Wide on the crease, first delivery pitches on a virtual 5th stump & straightens away from the right-hander.
'Wide of the crease, next delivery pitches on the same spot & jags back in & right through the defences of Shai Hope. Pure genius from Pat Cummins.'
One fan wrote: 'An absolutely unplayable ball by Pat Cummins to dismiss Shai Hope - the sort of delivery Courtney Walsh sent down regularly.'
A second said: 'That ball to clean up Shai Hope was dreamy.'
Fast bowler Shamar Joseph showed he can swing a bat, scoring 29 runs to bring the Windies within sight of Australia's first innings total.
The Windies were 4/111 and 6/169, giving Australia hopes of a health first innings lead, but the tail wagged to nearly erase Australia's advantage.
Boland question as Starc milestone looms
Will Cummins, Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood play all three Test in the West Indies?
The Aussie cartel has played the World Test Championship final and the first two Tests in the Caribbean, leaving Scott Boland to run drinks with spinner Matt Kuhnemann in Bridgetown.
'Scotty Boland, will we see him in the third Test? Decisions to be made in due course depending on how the rest of this game goes,' Greg Blewett said in commentary.
'A lot of discussion over when fast bowlers should be rested.
'One thing I love about this bowling attack is they hate missing games. I know for a fact Mitchell Starc hates missing any games.'
Starc has played 99 Tests and is approaching the 400-wicket mark — milestones that perhaps he would prefer to reach during a home Ashes series.

West Indies vs Australia, second Test, day 3 live: Scorecard, key moments, live blog

Aussie pace spearhead Josh Hazlewood has predicted the Grenada wicket to become even more difficult for batting by the end of day three in an ominous warning to West Indies' batters. Australia will resume on day 3 with a lead of 45 runs after slumping to 2-12 at stumps. Hazlewood said the Grenada pitch was playing slower than in Barbados and tipped life would become tougher for batters as the match dragged on. 'By the end of tomorrow I think it could be really hard to bat,' he told SEN after stumps yesterday. 'The pace isn't quite as good as potentially Barbados. There's certainly some cracks out there and I think they will just only get bigger and bigger. It could be interesting tomorrow and the next day.'

Bridal Waltz's stunning upset over She's An Artist in Creswick Stake no surprise to Peter Moody

Bridal Waltz flipped the script on hot favourite She's An Artist to win the Listed AR Creswick Stakes (1200m) at Flemington Saturday. The Peter Moody and Katherine Coleman-trained filly led the field up and refused to wilt as She's An Artist chipped away late. Bridal Waltz finished third behind She's An Artist the start prior but could not be headed on Saturday as jockey Jamie Melham indicated a two-week turnaround potentially worked against the favourite. 'She went into that (last start) probably slightly underdone and was ready to peak today,' Moody said. 'Obviously respectful of the two that beat her comfortably the other day (She's An Artist and Fieldelo) but we thought we were in the wrong part of the track too. 'We were quietly confident we could turn it around, we just had to hope the favourite maybe wasn't as good as the hype.' Bridal Waltz 😲😲 The Melhams battled it out down the straight as odds-on favourite She's An Artist loomed to win for Jamie, but couldn't get past Bridal Waltz for Ben! You couldn't script it (and most punters didn't!) ðŸ'°ðŸ'ƒ @BMelham @moodyracingpgm â€' 7HorseRacing ðŸŽ (@7horseracing) July 5, 2025 She's An Artist started $1.30 favourite but could not reel in $13 chance Bridal Waltz. Duchess Zou finished off nicely to grab third from Fieldelo. Moody said Bridal Waltz would be freshened up for early spring targets. 'We'll let the dust settle and then pick our mark carefully through the spring,' Moody said. 'We won't get too excited, Listed (today) if we could work on Group 3, Group 2, we know she can run down the Flemington straight. 'The Bobbie Lewis is a nice race where some other horses are maybe getting ready for bigger targets if you're ready for the day you can maybe sneak one of those.' Jockey Ben Melham controlled the race from the outset. 'We drew the right barrier to control the speed, I felt from that draw I'd be able to dictate the rest of the field,' Melham said. 'That was probably the difference, in saying that though, my filly dug really deep when I needed her to. 'I was able to control the race, control the speed, she's a fit horse, and let down too good for them in the end.' Melham joked about the potential repercussions of upstaging wife Jamie, the rider of She's An Artist. 'I'd be a fair chance of sleeping in the spare room, I'd imagine,' Melham laughed. Jamie Melham told stewards She's An Artist raced well but two weeks between runs blunted her finish being only a small filly.
