Fahadh Faasil reveals why he dropped out of Alejandro González Iñárritu's movie: ‘They weren't ready to pay for…'
Admitting to auditioning for the project, Fahadh Faasil said that Alejandro González Iñárritu, however, wasn't impressed by his accent. 'To perfect the accent, I was told to go to the US and stay there for three or four months. But they weren't ready to pay for that. That's why I skipped it. Otherwise, I would have gone running. The commercial aspects of it wouldn't have worked out. Also, to bother so much for an accent, I didn't feel that kind of fire for it,' he shared during a chat with Cue Studio.
Mentioning that had there not been an audition, things would have gone ahead smoothly, Fahadh Faasil noted that everything changed after they interacted virtually. 'I spoke to him on a video call. It might be during that conversation that he also realised, 'Oh, this isn't the guy I'm looking for.' Such things happen. There have been many films I lost during such meetings. Also, all the magic in my life happened here in Malayalam. So, even in the future, if any new changes were to happen, I want them to come from Malayalam. I don't think I will leave Kerala for that. If a project emerges that redefines me in some way, I want it to be in Malayalam,' he added.
Renowned for helming movies such as Amores perros (2000), 21 Grams (2003), Babel (2006), Birdman (2014) and The Revenant (2015), Alejandro González Iñárritu is currently working on a film headlined by Tom Cruise. Fahadh, however, did not mention if it was for this film that he was approached.
Fahadh Faasil is currently gearing up for the release of filmmaker-actor Althaf Salim's sophomore directorial venture Odum Kuthira Chaadum Kuthira. Also starring Kalyani Priyadarshan, Revathi Pillai, Lal, and Vinay Forrt in key roles, the movie will hit the screens on August 29, coinciding with the Onam season, when it will clash head-on with Sathyan Anthikad's Mohanlal-starrer Hridayapoorvam.

Fahadh Faasil Recalls Stepping Away From Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu's Film: "Was Asked To Stay In US To Work On My..."
Malayalam cinema star Fahadh Faasil once came close to collaborating with Oscar winning filmmaker Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu on a film. The actor, who is regarded as one of the most versatile performers of Malayalam cinema, said the Birdman director asked him to stay in America to work on his accent for the potential project. In an interview with Cue Studio, Fahadh Faasil initially quipped, "He didn't like me, and I got rejected after the auditions". Later, he gave a more elaborate answer. The actor said he was required to be in the US for around four months and that too without any payment. The Super Deluxe star said he quit the project in its fledgling state as he didn't understand its "commercial side". "It wasn't exactly that he rejected me, but he was concerned about my accent. I was asked to stay in America for three to four months to work on it, and no payment was involved. "That is why I stepped away from it, because the commercial side of it did not make sense to me. I did not feel enough fire to put in that much effort just to work on my accent," Fahadh Faasil said during the interview, as quoted by Cinema Express. The actor later credited Malayalam cinema for bringing "all the magic in my career". There's also unconfirmed chatter online that the film Fahadh Faasil quit was a Tom Cruise film. The actor, however, didn't reveal any more details about the project. Fahadh Faasil is looking forward to the release of his Malayalam movie Odum Kuthira Chadum Kuthira, written and directed by Althaf Salim. Also starring Kalyani Priyadarshan, the film is slated to be released in theatres on August 29 on the occasion of Onam.

Coolie worldwide box office collection: Rajinikanth's Coolie is going from strength to strength at the box office. The action thriller directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj opened to record-breaking numbers and has kept the momentum going through its extended opening weekend, despite some lukewarm reviews. Now, Coolie has done the unthinkable by becoming the number one movie at the worldwide box office in its opening weekend. Coolie worldwide box office collection: Rajinikanth's film has topped the global box office this weekend. (Photo by Raju Shinde/HT Photo)(Raju Shinde) Coolie worldwide box office report Coolie earned ₹194.25 crore net ( ₹233 crore gross) in its four-day extended opening weekend in India. It is the fastest Tamil film to ₹100 crore, and will likely become the fastest to ₹200 crore on Monday. But Coolie's overseas earnings are just as impressive. The film set new benchmarks for Tamil films with record-breaking openings in North America, the UK, and Australia. By Sunday, the film has earned over $18 million ( ₹160 crore) in the international market. Its total worldwide haul stands at ₹393 crore ($45 million) after four days. How Coolie became the #1 film in the world Coolie's $45 million haul is impressive for any Indian film in its first four days. But the end of the Hollywood summer and the absence of a big tentpole film in the US this weekend have meant that it is enough to top the charts globally as well. Coolie managed to beat the horror film, Weapons, which earned an estimated $44 million over the last four days (Thursday-Sunday). The Zach Cregger film earned $29 million in the US, according to Box Office Mojo, in addition to $15 million overseas. In the third spot during this extended weekend is Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR's War 2, which has earned an estimated $30 million in its first four days. The YRF Spy Universe is level with Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan's Freakier Friday, which brought home the same amount. The only new Hollywood release this weekend - Nobody 2 starring Bob Odenkirk - opened at just $14 million worldwide, far behind Coolie. All about Coolie Lokesh Kanagaraj's Coolie stars Rajinikanth as the titular retired coolie, who ends up embroiled in a gangster's world (Simon, played by Nagarjuna) after the death of his friend. The film also stars Soubin Shahir, Shruti Haasan, and Sathyaraj, with a cameo from Aamir Khan.
