AI roadmap by 3Q this year
PETALING JAYA: A National Artificial Intelligence Roadmap that outlines a five-year plan is expected to be launched by the third quarter this year, said Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo.
According to Gobind, the national AI roadmap from 2026 to 2030 is expected to have an entire chapter on AI education, and his ministry will be speaking to different sectors after the announcement.
'The document is ready. 'However, we anticipate launching it in the third quarter of this year,' said Gobind after he launched the National AI Competition 2025 at Sunway University yesterday.
Gobind also said it is important to spread awareness about AI education, as it could foster interest in technology adoption among students.
'So, we will look at what data can be digitised and used to strengthen our education system,' said Gobind, adding that the national AI roadmap will focus on all sectors, and different ministries will be involved for that purpose. 'Different ministries will deal with different sectors, such as health and transportation, among others,' he said.
Gobind said his ministry will also get feedback from other ministries on the issues faced by the country's sectors.
'We will devise a plan to overcome these challenges.
'One of the key areas is to ensure that we build talent that is able to optimise the potential of technology as we move forward,' he said.
At the same time, Gobind said Malaysians should look at the use of generative AI such as ChatGPT as a form of innovation that can better their lives.
'Like it or not, technology will continue developing, and in this journey, we will see more innovations that can better our lives,' he said.
In 2021, the Science, Technology and Innovation Ministry announced the National AI Roadmap 2021-2025, which outlined frameworks in agriculture, healthcare and education.
Meanwhile, Gobind said over 2,500 students participated in the National AI Competition 2025, and more higher learning institutions should organise competitions as such.
'This is important because this is a platform where we can see how the technology is used and how it can benefit us,' said Gobind.
'This event gives important exposure to students, and I hope after this, every student will bring this message to their friends and family members that it is time to ensure that the nation is AI-ready.'

Activities during the week include exhibitions, innovation showcases, sharing sessions and the signing of strategic partnerships involving public and private higher learning institutions.

Air India completes fuel switch checks on Boeing planes after crash report
Air India, in a official statement on Tuesday, announced that it has completed the fuel control switch inspection of its Boeing fleets. NEW DELHI: (Bernama) Air India said on Tuesday (July 22) it has completed fuel switch checks on all its Boeing 787 and Boeing 737 aircraft as ordered by India's aviation regulator. An initial report this month on the June 12 crash of the Air India Boeing 787 Dreamliner found that fuel to both engines was abruptly cut off seconds before the plane went down after takeoff from Ahmedabad airport in Gujarat state. "Air India has completed precautionary inspections on the locking mechanism of Fuel Control Switch (FCS) on all Boeing 787 and Boeing 737 aircraft in its fleet. Boeing 737 aircraft are part of the fleet of Air India Express, Air India's low cost subsidiary. "With this, the two airlines have complied with the directives of the DGCA (Directorate General of Civil Aviation) issued on July 14, 2025," the airline said in a statement. "In the inspections, no issues were found with the said locking mechanism," it said. The London-bound flight AI171 carrying 242 people crashed into a medical college building. All aboard except one passenger died in the disaster, with the total death toll, including victims on the ground, being 260. The aircraft began to lose altitude before crossing the airport perimeter wall, the preliminary report found. "In the cockpit voice recording, one of the pilots is heard asking the other why did he cutoff. The other pilot responded that he did not do so," the report released by India's Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) said. The Wall Street Journal, citing sources familiar with US officials' early assessment of data, reported on July 16 that a black-box recording of dialogue between the flight's two pilots indicated it was the captain who moved the switches from "run" to "cutoff" setting. Reuters, a day later, carried a similar report, suggesting it was the captain who cut the flow of fuel. Former Chief Justice Tun Zaki Azmi highlighted inefficiencies in court administration as a key factor behind delays, particularly in divorce, maintenance, and child custody cases. He stressed that frequent adjournments, often due to absent parties or unjustified requests, waste time and unfairly affect vulnerable individuals. 'Judges must be firm in rejecting weak adjournment pleas. Delayed justice denies justice, and the innocent suffer,' he said. Zaki spoke after presenting 'Memartabatkan Mahkamah Syariah di Malaysia' at the Penang Syariah Law and Judicial Convention. Malaysian Bar Council president Mohamad Ezri Abdul Wahab and Penang Syariah chief judge Za'im Md Yudin were also present.
