Veteran Hong Kong actor Ai Wai's wife Lisa Chan died on May 18 from liver disease while waiting for a transplant. She was 61.
According to Hong Kong media, she suffered from complications related to polycystic liver and kidney disease and, in 2015, had surgery to remove a 6kg uterine tumour.
Following the surgery, fluid reportedly built up in her liver and kidneys, leading to her liver function decreasing to 20 per cent.
Ai Wai, known for his roles in Running Out of Time (1999), Flash Point (2007) and Hooked on You (2007), made an appeal on Facebook on May 10 after Chan was hospitalised.
The 66-year-old wrote: "My wife's condition is critical, and she was put on the waiting list for a liver transplant about two months ago. Unfortunately, there is still no suitable liver, and all her young family members are not healthy enough.
"Now I can only do my best. I would like to appeal here, hoping that there are kind-hearted people willing to donate. Hong Kong's liver transplant technology is very mature now, and the risk of accidents to donors is as low as one to two per cent... I would be very grateful."
However, Chan was transferred to the ICU after contracting a bacterial infection and developing fluid in her abdomen, according to TVB Entertainment News. She succumbed to her illness at around 1pm on May 18.
The couple married in 2002. They separated in 2020 over her mahjong addiction, but reunited two years later. Kwon Yul announces wedding

"Actor Kwon Yul has met a precious person with whom he wishes to spend the rest of his life, and the two will be tying the knot on May 24," they wrote. "Out of consideration for the non-celebrity bride-to-be and both families, the wedding will be held privately at a location in Seoul.
"We ask for your warm blessings and support for actor Kwon Yul who is about to embark on a new chapter in life. Kwon Yul will continue to greet [audiences] through various projects as an actor, showing his best on screen. Thank you."

K-pop boy band Shinee is set to release a new single on May 25 that shares the same name as late member Jonghyun's final album: Poet | Artist.
The day also marks the group's 17th debut anniversary.
Shinee posted a trailer for the upcoming project that included mascots of all the members, including Jonghyun, earning comments of "Shinee is five" and "5hinee" from fans.
Jonghyun died in December 2017 from suicide by carbon monoxide poisoning, and his album Poet | Artist was released posthumously the next month.

The plushies are included with the upcoming release, and fans were also heartened to find out that while each living member "holds" their plushie on the packaging, Jonghyun's plushie is "held" by the other four members: Onew, Key, Minho and Taemin.
Shinee is also holding a three-day concert between May 23 and 25 in Seoul to commemorate their anniversary.

Once ‘aunty', now ‘sayang': 70-year-old Malaysian woman marries 47-year-old neighbour

PHOTO: SHAMSUL ANUAR NASARAH/FACEBOOK Madam Rapeah Sani never expected to get married again at the age of 70, but little did she know that love was right next door. She got to know Mr Mohd Shaiful Nizam Yeop Mat Isa in October 2024, when the 47-year-old man moved to her rural hometown of Lenggong in Perak from Kuala Lumpur . As Mr Mohd Shaiful lived in a house nearby, Madam Rapeah often shared her homecooked meals with him. Being twice-married, she did not expect the bachelor to develop romantic feelings for her. However, her cooking captured his heart. 'I used to call her 'mak ngah' (aunty) but now I call her 'sayang' (darling),' Mr Mohd Shaiful told Malay daily Utusan Malaysia. Both are unfazed over their 23-year-old age gap. 'We accepted it as that is how fate works,' Mr Mohd Shaiful told another Malay newspaper Sinar Harian. They were among 25 couples who got married at a mass wedding ceremony in Lenggong on May 25. The wedding was attended by Perak Chief Ministe r Saarani Mohamad and Lenggong MP Shamsul Anuar Nasarah. The mass wedding was held to mark the distinctive date of May 25, 2025 , or 25.5.25, reported the New Straits Times. Join ST's Telegram channel and get the latest breaking news delivered to you.

'I can peel 3 to 5 eggs in a minute': 12-year-old boy helps out at grandma's porridge stall in Holland Drive Food Centre , Singapore News

Chong Meng Yew would love to spend his afternoons playing football or badminton with his friends. But since last year, the 12-year-old Real Madrid fan usually spends his free time at Congee House in Holland Drive Market and Food Centre, helping his 75-year-old grandma at her porridge stall. When AsiaOne visited them on Monday (May 26), the Primary 6 student from Keng Cheng School was taking orders, cashiering and packing food for customers, while his grandma cooked porridge. Decked out in a colourful set of shirt and shorts, Meng Yew carried himself with a calmness and poise not generally seen among 12-year-olds. While Meng Yew usually helps out on holidays and weekends, he was able to come today because there were no lessons on parent teacher meeting day. Meng Yew's grandma, who wanted to be known as Setoh, said her declining health makes it difficult for her to run the stall alone, especially when her day begins at 2am and ends at 4pm. She added that with both of his parents at work, there was no one at home to take care of her grandson, who arrives around 8am. "Someone must watch over him or he will be naughty," she joked. "My dad asked me to come here and get experience for a job next time," Meng Yew shared. When asked how he was balancing his PSLE preparations with this side hustle, Meng Yew shrugged and said: "It's normal." However, he added it was quite hot working in the hawker stall and he had no time to himself. Thankfully, Meng Yew said: "Sometimes my grandma lets me rest and buys my favourite Pokka green tea." Online shout-out from Minister Chan Chun Sing On Saturday (May 24), Meng Yew caught Minister Chan Chun Sing's eye when the latter was visiting the food market. He then appeared in the Minister's Facebook post on Sunday (May 25), where he was seen skillfully peeling century eggs. "He's full of heart for his grandma. And he's got serious skills too," the newly-appointed Defence Minister wrote in the post, which amassed over 95,000 views in a day. "This young champ told me he can peel three eggs in under a minute!" When asked by AsiaOne, Meng Yew said: "I can peel three to five eggs in a minute." One user commented that it is "no joke peeling eggs" and that the "shells won't come off". Meng Yew shared that the trick to peeling eggs was to make small cracks on the eggshells to allow water to enter, which then helps the eggshells slip off easily. Michael, a regular customer, told AsiaOne that it was "very sweet" to see children helping out their grandparents at hawker stalls. Another Facebook user wrote: "He has always been a wonderful kid and we love to see him in Holland Drive hawker centre." [[nid:716389]]
