Conan O'Brien wouldn't get 'picked' for Late Night role today
The comedian believes he would be overlooked for the high-profile hosting gig in 2025.
"Nowadays they would never have picked me. Ever, ever," he said in response to an audience question while hosting his Conan O'Brien Needs A Friend podcast.
Instead, Conan explained, he felt a casting agent now would be scouring the internet for online comedy sensations.
"They would have said, 'OK, the world is filled with hilarious people who have been making things on YouTube for years, and there are so many possibilities," he suggested.
"Back then it was 'oh no who will host the show if Dave's (Letterman) not hosting it? We need to turn to an expert' and they turned to Lorne Michaels."
Lorne, 80, is the creator of sketch show Saturday Night Live - the show that gave Conan his first big break in TV. Conan was then chosen to host the late-night spot in 1993, with the gig lasting until 2009.
"Lorne looked around and lo and behold I get the chance," Conan went on.
"Which I was not ready for! But my lesson to everybody is when your moment comes you may not be ready but you have to take it and then figure it out on the way."

Popular 1980s actor Loni Anderson of the hit TV series ‘WKRP in Cincinnati' has died
Loni Anderson, who played a struggling radio station's empowered receptionist on the hit TV comedy 'WKRP in Cincinnati,' died Sunday, just days before her 80th birthday. Anderson died at a Los Angeles hospital following a 'prolonged' illness, said her longtime publicist, Cheryl J. Kagan. 'We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our dear wife, mother and grandmother,' Anderson's family said in a statement. 'WKRP in Cincinnati' aired from 1978-1982 and was set in a lagging Ohio radio station trying to reinvent itself with rock music. The cast included Gary Sandy, Tim Reid, Howard Hesseman, Frank Bonner and Jan Smithers, alongside Anderson as the sexy and smart Jennifer Marlowe. As the station's receptionist, the blonde and high-heeled Jennifer used her sex appeal to deflect unwanted business calls for her boss, Mr. Carlson. Her efficiency often kept the station running in the face of others' incompetence. The role earned her two Emmy Award and three Golden Globe nominations. Anderson starred on the big screen alongside Burt Reynolds in the 1983 comedy 'Stroker Ace' and the two later married and became tabloid fixtures before divorcing in 1994. Anderson is survived by her husband Bob Flick, daughter Deidra and son-in law Charlie Hoffman, son Quinton Anderson Reynolds, grandchildren McKenzie and Megan Hoffman, stepson Adam Flick and wife Helene, step-grandchildren Felix and Maximilian.

WWE SummerSlam 2025 Results As Naomi Wins With Sneaky Pin On Rhea Ripley
WWE SummerSlam 2025 marked another massive women's triple threat match, this time with Naomi defending her recently won Women's World Championship against Rhea Ripley and Iyo Sky. Many fans will recall the epic show-opening triple threat match at WrestleMania 41, where Sky pulled off the shocking upset against Ripley and Bianca Belair, arguably the two biggest stars in WWE's stacked women's division. This time around in MetLife Stadium, Naomi, fresh off an unforgettable cash-in at WWE Evolution, entered as champion just a few weeks after her title win. In many ways, Naomi, not always pushed as a top star, showed up in East Rutherford, New Jersey as the underdog, despite being the titleholder. No surprise here: Naomi, Ripley and Sky delivered yet another fantastic triple threat match to kick off WWE SummerSlam Saturday, but only one star could leave SummerSlam as Women's World Champion. WWE SummerSlam 2025 Results for Naomi vs. Iyo Sky vs. Rhea Ripley? Naomi didn't have an easy path to a win at WWE SummerSlam, but guess what? She won anyway. The former fan favorite-turned-villain followed up her career-defining title win at Evolution with another one inside MetLife Stadium. Naomi was able to pin Ripley with a sneak roll-up to cap off an incredible triple threat match that continued an undeniable hot streak of stellar women's title matches. Some of the biggest moments in SummerSlam's triple threat match for the Women's World title included: While WWE easily could have transitioned the title onto Ripley for a second time this year, Naomi was able to maintain her momentum with another signature win, one that protected both Sky and Ripley. WWE SummerSlam 2025 Results: What's Next for Naomi, Iyo Sky and Rhea Ripley? Naomi's next stop is just four weeks away. Her next challenger for the Women's World Championship is Stephanie Vaquer, who is the No. 1 contender for the title after winning a stacked battle royal at last month's Evolution. Although Naomi has only been champion for a cup of coffee, WWE is reportedly planning a massive push for Vaquer with the intent of making her a cornerstone of Monday Night Raw. Indeed, Vaquer, in a matter of mere months, has already become one of the company's most popular stars, and the first step of her sizable push came with that battle royal win at Evolution. It wouldn't be at all surprising to see Vaquer defeat Naomi at Clash in Paris on Aug. 31 or for that match to end with a controversial finish that extends the feud. Either way, Naomi's time as champion could already be coming to an end because Vaquer is the fastest-rising babyface in the women's division. WWE will need to strike while the iron is hot. Where Naomi's feud with Vaquer will leave Ripley and Sky isn't as clear, but the stage is set for one final match between Ripley and Sky. As two of WWE's most popular babyfaces, Ripley and Sky have a healthy respect for one another, but Ripley is still yet to beat Sky in singles action. Given the way Ripley lost at SummerSlam, it's clear that WWE wanted the biggest star in the women's division to look good even in defeat. That seemingly will lead to Ripley vs. Sky at some point in the weeks ahead, and after yet another loss in a match involving Sky at WWE SummerSlam, Ripley is going to have to get her win back at some point.
