Al Hilal eye Man Utd revenge as new target identified after Bruno Fernandes snub

Daily Mirror2 days ago

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has now rejected a mega-money move to Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal but they could still cause the Red Devils an issue
Al Hilal could be set to disrupt Manchester United's summer transfer plans - despite being rejected by Red Devils skipper Bruno Fernandes. The Saudi Pro League side have spent several weeks working on a deal for the 31-year-old attacking midfielder but they have now been snubbed by Fernandes, who wants to continue playing in Europe.
Al Hilal were prepared to pay eye-watering cash to get a deal over the line before the Club World Cup but they have now been forced to move onto other targets and one of the names that is now of key interest is Ederson of Atalanta, who has been courted by United.Ruben Amorim is keen to strengthen his options in the middle of the park but United have prioritised reinvigorating their attack during the opening stages of the summer window.
A deal for Wolves ' Matheus Cunha has been completed while a move for Brentford winger Bryan Mbeumo is now gathering pace after he approved a switch to Old Trafford. But once United have made some sales, they plan to make notable changes to Amorim's midfield and Ederson is a name of huge admiration.
United are among a list of top European clubs to have held talks with the player's agent Andre Cury in the past few months. Manchester City have also shown an interest in the 25-year-old, who is valued at around £50m, however, Al Hilal are now considering a move of their own and they are armed with big money.
The winds of change are beginning to sweep through the Saudi Pro League club and they're currently in deep discussions with Inter Milan boss Simone Inzaghi about replacing Jorge Jesus following his departure in early May.
There has also been interest in Bournemouth's Andoni Iraola and Fulham's Marco Silva but both head coaches politely rejected the advances. Meanwhile, Al Hilal are also working on a deal for AC Milan left-back Theo Hernandez and there is also admiration for Aston Villa duo Youri Tielemans and Amadou Onana.
Newcastle midfielder Bruno Guimaraes is also popular at Al Hilal but he's expected to stay at St James' Park this summer after they secured Champions League qualification for the second time in three seasons.
Al Hilal are determined to add some star quality to their ranks ahead of the Club World Cup where they'll face Real Madrid, Red Bull Salzburg and Mexican outfit Pachuca in the group stages.
Last week, deals were in the pipeline for both Cristiano Ronaldo and Fernandes but both deals now look off with Ronaldo poised to sign a new contract with Al-Nassr.
Serbian striker Aleksandar Mitrovic is among those that could depart the Middle East club this summer as they target high-profile changes to their squad.

Manchester United warned to refuse transfer that would be 'a step too far'

Manchester United will listen to offers for every single member of Ruben Amorim's squad throughout the summer transfer window, including academy graduate Kobbie Mainoo Manchester United legend Gary Neville has urged the club not to sell Kobbie Mainoo, warning them that it would be 'a step too far'. Mainoo, 20, broke into United's first-team under former boss Erik ten Hag and enjoyed a meteoric rise during the 2023-24 season. The midfielder scored as Ten Hag's side beat Manchester City to win the FA Cup and he became a starter for England later that summer, helping the Three Lions reach the final of Euro 2024. But his progress has stalled this term. ‌ Fitness problems and a change of formation under new manager Ruben Amorim have limited Mainoo's opportunities. The United academy graduate was benched for the Europa League final and Amorim only gave him a brief cameo in stoppage time. ‌ His lack of minutes plus the Red Devils' decision to put every player up for sale this summer has left Mainoo's future shrouded in uncertainty. Neville, like many supporters, would be gutted to see the Stockport-born starlet leave. "Mainoo, no. That's a step too far," Neville declared on the It's Called Soccer podcast. "If we can't give Kobbie Mainoo a job in that two in midfield… I look at Mainoo and the way he plays football and I think a top club would want him. "Why can't we make him a top player? If he's one of ours and he's shown talent. I don't know what's gone on there in the last few months. He's obviously had some injuries which has caused him a problem so he needs to stay fit, but I'd like to think he could be one of that two in midfield that Ruben Amorim plays. "It's probably not Casemiro as his partner and it's probably not [Manuel] Ugarte as his partner, it's probably someone else in there who is better than those two, if I'm being honest. But we should be building around Kobbie Mainoo in central midfield and not because he's come through the ranks. Would you sell Kobbie Mainoo if you were Manchester United? Have your say in the comments section. ‌ "I'm alright for getting rid of players coming through the ranks, but not getting rid of players who come through the ranks and have shown what they can do. Marcus Rashford has been at the club a long time, [Alejandro] Garnacho has had two or three years and there's a bit of a situation going on as well. But Mainoo is a no for me. He doesn't leave." Amorim has already assured Neville that he doesn't want to lose Mainoo, who was tipped to join Premier League rivals Chelsea in January. It came amid reports that the 20-year-old's representatives were demanding wages in the region of £150,000 per week. "I really love my players," Amorim said. "I want to keep them, especially the talented ones. It is a hard moment and I am really happy with Kobbie. He is improving." Thursday's briefing: Liam Delap joins Chelsea as City look at Tijjani Reijnders

Chelsea finally got their man as Liam Delap joined from Ipswich while Manchester City closed in on Tijjani Reijnders as the transfer window warmed up. Elsewhere, England defender Millie Bright ruled herself out of Euro 2025 contention. Chelsea sign Delap Chelsea signed striker Delap on a deal until 2031 after triggering his £30million release clause. An agreement was reached between the clubs last week for the England Under-21 international, who became the Blues' first summer signing and is eligible for the upcoming Club World Cup in the United States. The 22-year-old said on the club's official website: 'It's going to be an incredible place for me to develop and I hope to achieve amazing things here and help the club win more trophies.' Reijnders to join City City have agreed a 55million euros (approximately £46million) fee with AC Milan for 26-year-old Dutch midfielder Reijnders, who has agreed a five-year contract to move to the Premier League. The formalities of the deal are still to be completed but it appears City have landed their first major summer signing. United trying for Mbeumo Manchester United are ready to step up interest in Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo, the PA news agency understands. The Red Devils have wasted little time starting Ruben Amorim's rebuild after the club's worst top-flight season in 51 years was compounded by their costly Europa League final loss to Tottenham. Wolves forward Matheus Cunha's £62.5million move to Old Trafford is to be completed after international duty, with him joining on a five-year deal with an option for another season. PA understands Cameroon international Mbeumo, 25, has expressed a desire to move to Old Trafford over other options and there has been informal contact between clubs. Bright walks away from England Chelsea defender Bright has withdrawn from selection for this summer's European Championship, saying she is 'not able to give 100 per cent mentally or physically' to England's title defence. The 31-year-old captained the Lionesses to their first World Cup final in 2023 but has pulled out of Sarina Wiegman's squad for their final Nations League encounters for an 'extended period of recovery'. The Blues captain posted on Instagram: 'This is one of the hardest decisions I've ever had to make. My pride and ego tells me to go, but I think the team and the fans deserve more. Right now I am not able to give 100 per cent mentally or physically.' She is the third England player to withdraw from the squad in the last 10 days, following the retirements of Mary Earps and Fran Kirby. What's on today?
