Raipur: Chhattisgarh secured third place overall at the 3rd National C-Kayaking and Stand-Up Paddling Championship 2025, winning six medals, including two golds by star athlete Sourabh Sahu.
Despite this success, the state association has raised concerns over the exclusion of kayaking and canoeing from SAI Raipurs training programmes and has requested reinstatement through a day-boarding scheme. They also have requested permission from RMC to use Telibandha and Budhatalab lakes for athlete training.
Chhattisgarh secured a commendable third place overall at the Championship, held in Machilipatnam from June 5-8.
The state's contingent clinched a total of six medals, a proud achievement for Chhattisgarh.
Sourabh Sahu was the star performer, bagging two gold medals in the C-Kayak K-1 category for both 500 metres and 2 kilometres. He also secured a silver medal in the K-1 200 metres event. In the K-2 500 metres event, Sourabh Sahu and Sourabh Kumar teamed up to win a silver medal, while Puneet Kumar added a bronze in the 500 metres race.

Andhra Pradesh Minister for Mining and Geology, Kollu Ravindra, presented the overall third-place trophy to the Chhattisgarh team.
Chhattisgarh Pradesh Kayaking Canoeing Association president Baldeo Singh Bhatia along with secretary Abhijeet Mishra congratulated the athletes.
The state association has highlighted a concern: kayaking and canoeing, a sport that has historically brought the most Olympic medals to Chhattisgarh, is not being re-included at the Sports Authority of India (SAI) Centre in Raipur. The association has written to the RD SAI, DG SAI, and SAI Centre Raipur, stating that all necessary sports equipment for training would be provided by the state association. They emphasised that even if there isn't space at the centre, the sport should be included through a day-boarding scheme to ensure coaches are available and athletes receive regular training.
This would enable them to continue winning national and international medals, as in previous years.

US Open: 'Probably the toughest golf course', says DeChambeau as Scheffler chases back-to-back majors

Defending champion Bryson DeChambeau described Oakmont as 'probably the toughest golf course' he's ever played, as the US Open tees off on Thursday with world number one Scottie Scheffler aiming for back-to-back major titles. Known for its unforgiving layout, treacherous greens and tricky bunkers, Oakmont is expected to test every aspect of a player's game. "This is probably the toughest golf course in the world right now," DeChambeau, seeking his third US Open victory in six years, said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Free P2,000 GCash eGift UnionBank Credit Card Apply Now Undo Meanwhile, Scheffler arrives in top form after winning the PGA Championship and seeks to cement his dominance with another major triumph, making this one of the most anticipated tournaments of the year. Scheffler is trying to become the first man to win consecutive majors since Jordan Spieth in 2015 by taking his first US Open title. Live Events Scheffler highlighted the challenge posed by Oakmont's tall rough, remarking, 'What's so special about this place is that almost every time you miss the fairway, it's extremely tough to get the ball onto the green.' Scheffler, who claimed Olympic gold in Paris among his nine victories last year, enters the US Open in red-hot form, having won three of his last four starts. Scheffler begins at 1:25 p.m. when he starts off the first tee alongside fourth-ranked American compatriot Collin Morikawa and Norway's Viktor Hovland . Five-time major champion and world number two Rory McIlroy , who has shown signs of improvement after recent struggles with his driver, will tee off from the 10th at 7:40 a.m. alongside England's Justin Rose and Ireland's Shane Lowry. McIlroy, representing Northern Ireland, has a shot at making history by becoming just the seventh player to win both the Masters and the US Open in the same year. He would join an elite group that includes Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus, Jordan Spieth, Arnold Palmer, Craig Wood, and Ben Hogan — legendary names in the sport's rich history.

Referees to wear cameras at Club World Cup in US, but FIFA to hide controversies

FIFA will introduce eye-level cameras for referees at the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup , which kicks off in Miami on Saturday, designed to give fans a unique perspective by showing exactly what officials see during the match. However, the technology seems geared more towards enhancing the viewing experience for television audiences than improving the game itself. FIFA has stated that only 'non-controversial' footage from the referee cameras will be shown during broadcasts. While the exact definition of 'non-controversial' hasn't been clarified, it's clear that critical moments — such as goal-scoring incidents or potential red cards — are unlikely to be included, raising concerns about transparency and selective presentation. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like New Container Houses Indonesia (Prices May Surprise You) Container House | Search ads Search Now Undo While the use of referee cams is being hailed as a step towards transparency and innovation, critics argue that withholding controversial clips undermines the very purpose of the technology and raises questions about accountability in high-stakes matches. 'It is a trial,' Pierluigi Collina , veteran official and chairman of the FIFA referees committee , said on Wednesday. "What will be the future? We will see. Live Events 'We have said that we want to, let's say, offer a new experience to TV viewers. We want to show something, let's say, entertaining. I don't think that we always need to think of the controversial or potentially controversial incidents on the field of play.' The footage from the referee's eye-level cameras will be reviewed before being broadcast, and they will be deferred live. Another innovation set for the Club World Cup — a month-long tournament in the United States featuring 32 of the world's top clubs — is the live display of VAR review footage on big screens inside the stadium for the first time. This move aims to increase transparency for fans in attendance, allowing them to see exactly what officials are reviewing during critical moments of the match.
