(Getty Images) Swedish pole vaulter Armand 'Mondo' Duplantis secured victory at the Diamond League meet in Oslo on Thursday, setting a new meet record of 6.15 meters in favourable weather conditions at the Bislett Stadium, continuing his dominance in the sport where he holds the world record of 6.27 meters. The US-born athlete, who won Olympic gold and broke the world record three times in 2024, maintains his position as the sport's leading figure, having recorded the 11 highest jumps in history. Duplantis was named Laureus World Sportsman of the Year for 2024, becoming only the second track and field athlete after Usain Bolt to receive this honour. "I am very satisfied. To get a stadium record here was in my plans after a few visits here with difficult conditions. It was great to finally get the right conditions tonight," Duplantis said. The competition began with Duplantis entering at 5.62 meters, while three competitors - Sondre Guttormsen, Ben Broeders, and Ernest John Obiena - failed to clear their initial heights. At 5.72 meters, three more vaulters - Sam Kendricks, Menno Vloon, and Ersu Sasma - were eliminated, while Renaud Lavillenie cleared the height on his final attempt before withdrawing. Duplantis and Emmanouil Karalis successfully cleared 5.82 meters on their first attempts, while Kurtis Marschall failed to progress. Karalis was eliminated after three unsuccessful attempts at 5.92 meters, leaving Duplantis as the sole competitor. T he Swedish champion cleared 6.03 meters on his third attempt, surpassing his own 2022 meet record by one centimeter, before successfully vaulting 6.15 meters. "It did get cooler so that was why I stopped jumping. On Sunday in Stockholm it would be an absolute dream to break the world record. In fact I could retire if I do! At the moment the forecast is good for Sunday and I am feeling good, I am in good shape and tonight shows I am jumping well so who knows, it may be possible. I need to build on tonight and get ready now for the big one," Duplantis stated. The victory adds to Duplantis's impressive Diamond League record, where he has lost only four times in 40 meetings since 2020. His world record progression has been methodical, improving one centimeter at a time from 6.17 to 6.27 meters.

New Zealand Star Finn Allen, Who Went Unsold At IPL 2025 Auction, Breaks Chris Gayle's World Record

New Zealand's swashbuckling batter Finn Allen broke multiple records in the opening game of Major League Cricket 2025 - a franchise-based T20 competition in the United States. Playing for San Francisco Unicorns against the Washington Freedom at the Oakland Coliseum on Friday, Allen went berserk and scored 151 runs off just 51 balls. His innings had a strike rate of over 296. The batter slammed five fours and 19 sixes during the terrific knock that was nothing less than a nightmare for the Washington Freedom bowlers. During the knock, Allen broke the record for the fastest 150 in T20 cricket. He reached the milestone in 49 balls. The right-handed batter smashed his ton in 34 balls, which turned out to be the fastest T20 hundred by a Kiwi batter and also the quickest in the tournament's history. Allen also broke the record of Chris Gayle and Estonia's Sahil Chauhan by hitting the most sixes in a men's T20 innings. While Gayle and Chauhan had hit 18 each, Allen surpassed both of them with a tally of 19. Finn Allen's out here breaking recordsHe smashed the fastest century in MLC history for the @SFOUnicorns! — Cognizant Major League Cricket (@MLCricket) June 13, 2025 "Was exciting (on making the fastest hundred in MLC history), off to a good start, found the boundaries regularly, we had a few partnerships and got a good score on the board. The boundaries are fairly decent," said the Kiwi batter after his fiery knock. Interestingly, just six months ago, Allen found no bidders at the Indian Premier League auction table. With a base price of Rs 2 crore, the New Zealand batter went unsold in IPL 2025 action that was held in November last year. In the same auction, India's wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant became the costliest player in the tournament's history. He was bought by Lucknow Super Giants for Rs 27 crore. Following him was Shreyas Iyer, who was signed by Punjab Kings for a whopping sum of Rs 26.75 crore. The bidding war also saw Venkatesh Iyer being retained by Kolkata Knight Riders for Rs 23.75 crore.

Armand Duplantis Dominates Pole Vault At Oslo Diamond League

Armand 'Mondo' Duplantis dominated the men's pole vault at the Diamond League meet in Oslo on Thursday in another stellar display. The US-born Swede remains head and shoulders above the rest, having bettered his own world record to 6.27m in February on the back of a 2024 season when he not only won Olympic gold but also broke the world record three times. Duplantis has also registered the 11 highest jumps in the history of the sport, improving the world record one centimetre at a time from 6.17 to 6.27. He is the undisputed king of the event and was also named Laureus World Sportsman of the Year for 2024. Jamaican sprint legend Usain Bolt is the only track and field athlete to have previously won the award. While the world's top eight competed in Oslo, none proved to be anywhere near Duplantis' level. Duplantis came in at 5.62m, but three of the 10-strong field bombed out: home hope Sondre Guttormsen, Belgium's Ben Broeders and Ernest John Obiena of the Philippines. The Swede skipped 5.72m along with Greece's Emmanouil Karalis, but another trio of vaulters failed to clear the mark: American Sam Kendricks, Dutchman Menno Vloon and Turkey's Ersu Sasma. France's 2012 Olympic gold medallist Renaud Lavillenie snuck through on his last attempt, but promptly withdrew from competition. Duplantis and Karalis cleared 5.82m at their first time of asking, but it proved a height too far for Australian Kurtis Marschall. That left just Duplantis and his Greek rival in the competition, but the latter had three failed efforts at 5.92m after the Swede had gone clear. That left just Duplantis and the bar was raised to 6.03m, 1cm more than the meet record he set in 2022. He needed three attempts, but did it on the third to wild applause from the 15,000-strong crowd at the Bislett Stadium. The bar went up to 6.15m and he passed on the second go, but called it a night as temperatures dipped in Oslo. Duplantis has now competed in 40 Diamond League meetings since 2020 and lost only four times, making him one of the series' most extraordinary serial winners.
