Tighnabruaich Hotel, Tighnabruaich
With an elevated position above the village shoreline, the fuss-free beer garden at the Tighnabruaich Hotel benefits from uninterrupted views over the Kyles of Bute. Yet despite its enviable position it never gets too busy, even on a sunny day, making it a glorious spot to enjoy the best of the Clyde Coast scenery.
Sugar Boat, Helensburgh
This little gem of a restaurant and bar is surely one of the best in Helensburgh. It's named after the famous shipwreck that can be seen from the town, and it has become a real community favourite since first opening in Colquhoun Square. Visit on a weekend morning for their high-end brunch, or late in the evening for a cocktail – you can bring your dog, too.

Gourock Outdoor Pool
Now immortalised in the pop world after an image of it adorned the cover of Blur's recent album, The Ballad of Darren, Gourock's refurbished outdoor attraction is Scotland's oldest salt water, open air swimming pool. Heated to a relatively balmy 29 degrees, it is open seven days a week and over the summer and offers spectacular views of the Clyde estuary during the day and the heavens at night with its magical Starlight Swims.
Hill House
Perched high overlooking the Firth of Clyde, Hill House in [[Helensburgh]] is regarded as Charles Rennie Mackintosh's domestic design triumph. Completed in 1904 for Glasgow publisher William Blackie, the exterior and interior were created by Mackintosh in collaboration with his wife Margaret Macdonald. [[Hill House]] is currently encased in a protective mesh box to protect it from the weather, but the exquisite interior is open to visitors, while gangways and steps inside the box provide unique angles from which to view the outside of the building.
Cathedral of the Isles
Cumbrae, just four miles long, epitomises the perfect Scottish island getaway accessible within an hour from Glasgow. The Cathedral of the Isles, Britain's smallest cathedral, sits in the charming town of Millport, where Victorian villas line the seafront and traditional seaside amusements endure. Founded in 1849 and consecrated in 1851, the Cathedral and adjacent College of the Holy Spirit, were designed by William Butterfield, one of the greatest nineteenth century British architects. The buildings remain with little alteration.
Culzean Castle and Country Park
Perched dramatically on Ayrshire clifftops, this Robert Adam masterpiece represents 18th-century architecture at its finest. The castle's oval staircase and circular saloon demonstrate Adam's innovative design genius, while the Eisenhower apartment commemorates the American president's connection to Scotland. The surrounding 600-acre country park features woodland walks, a restored walled garden, and the famous Culzean Beach with its distinctive volcanic rock formations. Red deer roam the parkland, while the clifftop paths offer spectacular views across to Ailsa Craig and Arran.

Wemyss Bay Station
Enter a world when rail was king and stations were designed and built to reflect its exalted status. Opened in 1865 and then rebuilt in 1903 to a design by James Miller for the Caledonian Railway, Wemyss Bay Station is widely regarded as one of the UK's finest. An architectural masterpiece which utilises glass and steel curves to assist the flow of passengers it is a much loved remnant of the age of the Clyde steamers. It still links with the Rothesay ferry and there are regular trains from Glasgow Central.

A separate source said Stern was considering 'parting ways' with SiriusXM - and that his staff of 'around 95' writers and producers had only recently heard about Stern's indecision over the show's future. They added the star 'will likely sell his catalogue of shows to replay' on uncensored channels Howard 100 and Howard 101. Missing Michele Ann Joy Bourda 'often swims in cold water and goes on hours-long hikes'
Michele Ann Joy Bourda disappeared after swimming at Ofrynio beach in Kavala in Greece at around noon on Friday - and now authorities are concerned for the tourist A British tourist who vanished from her sunlounger on a beach in Greece while her husband was asleep is "used to swimming in cold water," her neighbours said today. Michele Ann Joy Bourda, aged 59, also often spends whole days rambling and exploring in the countryside, according to those who know her. They shed insights into her character and lifestyle, offering hope as a search for Michele enters its fourth day. Michele, who is retired, had been swimming at Ofrynio beach in the city of Kavala in Greece at around noon on Friday before she disappeared. A targeted land and sea search for her has now ceased, according to the central port authority in Kavala, but Michele's neighbours maintain hope. One said: "She has always dressed in walking gear with a fleece and boots or a cagoule. She is really into the outdoors." It comes after a Brit who vanished in Paris was discovered safe some two weeks later. A summer sports instructor said he saw someone who matched Michele's description swimming near the beach on Friday. He said the woman didn't appear to be in difficulty in the water. Michele, whose belongings were left behind on her sun lounger after she vanished, was described as very adventurous and active today. Her neighbours in Glasgow said she likes hiking and swimming in cold water. One neighbour told Mail Online: "They've got bikes, and are quite active. They like to go walking, they like to go wild swimming. "They would go, and they would often be away for the whole day in the summer, and then if we saw them coming in and out and they would say, 'oh, we've been somewhere up north and we were swimming'. And I would see her sometimes sit and reading in the garden." The friends said they often see Michele and husband Christos out walking with backpacks on or loading the car for another day trip in the wild. Another neighbour added: "They've couple are very private and keep themselves to themselves. She is very quiet and timid and he is a bit more commanding. They moved to Glasgow about six years ago because their son is studying here.' "They are retired and tend to go everywhere together even though they have two cars. They are quite guarded and private but I'm very shocked that she has gone missing." Christos, who is Greek, had been sleeping and woke up to find Michele had vanished from the beach. He reportedly asked the owners of a nearby shop if they had seen his wife, but had no joy on Friday.

Royal Welsh Show 2025 Attracted Record Breaking Crowds
Martin Clunes inspecting the eventual winner of the supreme horse champion. This year's Royal Welsh Show has been declared an 'outstanding success' after attracting record-breaking crowds. 'This year's Royal Welsh Show was a true celebration of the very best of Wales,' said Royal Welsh Agricultural Society (RWAS) chief executive, Aled Rhys Jones. 'We welcomed incredible crowds to Llanelwedd, with perfect conditions setting the stage for what has been a truly memorable show. 'The standard of livestock exhibits was exceptional and it was fantastic to see new additions like the Heavy Horse Village proving so popular with visitors. 'Thousands of families joined us and it was especially encouraging to see so many young people enjoying the show – the zip wire at the Armed Forces stand was a real draw all week. 'We also saw a brilliant response on our social media platforms, with our video of the Welsh national anthem at Moliant y Maes reaching over 250,000 views. Our sincere thanks go to Caernarfon, this year's feature county, and to all our loyal supporters who make this show so special year after year.' The show was officially opened by broadcaster and journalist, Dei Tomos, in a ceremony that reflected the deep-rooted traditions of Welsh farming and culture. Later, The Princess Royal attended the Royal Agricultural Society of the Commonwealth's annual meeting, held at the showground, before meeting show exhibitors and volunteers, and witnessing the variety of competitions. Beef cattle supreme champion Arradfoot Undin, a British Limousin from Thor Atkinson, care of Keadyview Livestock, Powys. This year, Caernarfonshire was the feature county. RWAS president for 2025, Mr John R. Owen, said: 'I'm incredibly proud to represent my home area in this role and I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to Caernarfon as our feature county for 2025. 'Their tremendous efforts in raising funds and awareness for the RWAS throughout the year have been invaluable and their support has contributed significantly to making this show such a resounding success.' Actor and horseman Martin Clunes toured the new Heavy Horse Village alongside Rhys Eifion Griffith, whose vision as this year's ambassador saw its creation. Mr Clunes toured the showground before stepping into the ring to judge the prestigious supreme horse championship. Main ring displays included the horsemanship of the Ukrainian Cossacks, the Bolddog FMX display team and the grand parade of champions, which showcased the best animals from across the showground. Blue tongue restrictions meant that no livestock exhibitors from England or Scotland were able to participate this year. However, Mr Owen paid tribute to the livestock exhibitors. 'While we were disappointed that some of our regular livestock exhibitors from England and Scotland were unable to join us this year, I'm incredibly proud of how our Welsh farming community stepped up to the challenge,' he said. 'The quality of livestock on display was exceptional, with Welsh exhibitors providing strong, competitive classes that truly showcased the excellence of Welsh breeding and husbandry. This demonstrates the resilience and quality that defines Welsh agriculture.'
