The 2CV was nicknamed Deux Chevaux, translating to "two horses" referring to its tax horsepower rating.
The 2CV featured in the James Bond movie For Your Eyes Only in a scene where Bond jumps into the passenger seat of co-star Melina Havelock's yellow car, heading off the twisty mountain roads, while Hector Gonzalez's men give chase in a pair of Peugeot 504 sedans.
Bond eventually takes the wheel and the car enjoys a bone-rattling climax that sees it hurtling through olive trees.

He then crisscrosses the road, before jumping over a pursuing Peugeot and bumping its offside-rear wheel on the sedan's roof.
The scene was filmed in Corfu over 12 days and the car was one of several 2CVs used in the filming.
While four are known to have survived filming, at least two were scrapped when production ended.

No stranger to achieving and breaking records, French driver Sebastien Ogier (Toyota GR Yaris Rally1) clinched another with his fifth Rally Italia Sardegna victory but not before he survived an overshoot on the final stage to finish 7.9s ahead of the Hyundai i20 N Rally1 of Estonian Ott Tanak, whose team mate Kalle Rovanpera took the final spot on the podium. A big thanks to the whole team, because even before this last service, it was a big job inside seven minutes to fit a front left damper. Ogier began Saturday's six stages with a 2.1s lead over Fourmaux and duly extended that margin to 7.4s on the morning's first stage where Fourmaux was unhappy with his performance. A stage later, there was more disappointment when his Fourmaux's Hyundai punctured some 5km into the stage before he had to stop and change the wheel at the 16km mark losing around four minutes and dropping to seventh. More drama followed on SS9 when he lost two more places following an off road excursion. His team mate Ott Tanak fared better and with the fastest time on SS8 closed the gap to leader Ogier to 4.5s - the latter had his stage time revised after he was slowed by the dust from Fourmaux. A stage later Tanak lost time with a slow puncture to drop 15s behind Ogier. The rally leader remained calm and consistent through the repeat loop but Tanak with two stage wins cut the deficit to 11.1s. With Fourmaux and Sami Pajari (puncture) faltering, their Toyota GR Yaris team mate Kalle Rovanpera gained a few places to move into third. Championship leader Elfyn Evans (Toyota GR Yaris Rally1) was another driver forced to stop and change a punctured wheel (on SS11) and ended the penultimate leg in fifth. With their M-Sport Ford Puma Rally1 re-fettled, McErlean/Treacy had the task of sweeping the loose gravel from the stages. After the morning's second stage, McErlean said, "I have new appreciation for world champions, who win championships by doing that (being first on the road). On Sunday's the final leg (six stage) and having extended his lead to 17.1s on the penultimate stage, Ogier seemed to have everything under control. However, he had an overshoot on the closing few kilometres of the Wolf Power Stage when his Toyota didn't turn into a tight rutted right hander and ended up in the bushes. Twelve months ago a final stage puncture robbed him of victory, but this time and reversing his way out of trouble, he took the spoils and a record fifth win. With his team mate and championship leader Elfyn Evans finishing fourth, Ogier is now into second - 19 points behind and one ahead of Kalle Rovanpera, who won the Power Stage and also took an additional five points for the faster driver on Sunday, Rovanpera is only twenty points off Evans in a Toyota lock-out of the top three championship positions in the Drivers' championship. Meanwhile, Killarney's Colin O'Donoghue (Ford Escort) won the Laois Heartland's Rally as he finished the day's six (2x3) stages 4.6s ahead of the Toyota Starlet of Monaghan's David Moffett with similar car of Richard Moffett, 13.6s further behind in third. Monaghan's Johnno Doogan (Ford Escort) led Richard Moffett by 6.7s after the first pair of stages but retired on the road section to SS3 with a broken half-shaft. O'Donoghue, who experienced transmission woes on SS2 moved into the lead on SS3 only for Richard Moffett to move 0.8s ahead after SS4. O'Donoghue was best on the final loop to secure victory. New data shows wheat could lose half its best land by 2100
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has upgraded its innovative geospatial app with a new indicator which has provided data showing that several major crops – including wheat and beans – could lose half their best land by 2100. Designed for policymakers, technicians, and project designers, the Adaptation, Biodiversity, and Carbon Mapping Tool (ABC-Map) app offers an initial screening of the climate-related risks, essential biodiversity indicators, and carbon reduction potential of a selected project. It is an open-source satellite imagery app, based on Google Earth Engine, with information from global datasets. Following its upgrade, ABC-Map now features a new indicator that provides information on the suitability of major crops in evolving climate scenarios to the end of the century. FAO senior natural resources (Climate Change) officer Martial Bernoux said the new information could help ensure our capacity to cope with climate change and its impacts on land in the long-term. 'Given the increasingly erratic weather and extreme events – including droughts, extreme heat, and floods – farmers, policymakers, and technicians need to know if the crops, investments, or projects they are considering will work or if they need to adjust and consider other crops or more adaptation measures instead,' Bernoux said. 'Our ABC-Map tool can now better assist them with these considerations, further reinforcing climate resilience.' Concerning data for wheat and other crops The new indicator, developed by FAO, incorporates data from a study by French fintech start-up Finres, commissioned by the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and funded by the French Development Agency (AFD). The study – 'Have crops already reached peak suitability: assessing global climatic suitability decreases for crop cultivation' – uses a new method to assess crop suitability in varied climate scenarios. It concludes that five out of nine major staple and cash crops – including wheat, coffee, beans, cassava, and plantain – are already losing optimal growing conditions, and some could lose half their optimal suitable land by 2100. In particular, the study's researchers suggest that coffee production in some of the major coffee-growing regions could decline sharply by 2100. They say beans and wheat could experience significant losses, especially in regions such as North America and Europe. Maize and rice, however, could initially find more suitable areas for cultivation, the researchers suggest, but this situation could reverse by the end of the century under high-emission scenarios. How does it work? The ABC-Map geospatial app features indicators in three sections: adaptation, biodiversity, and carbon. This new indicator expands the scope of the adaptation section, which previously displayed only data on past trends in a given area, including past temperature and rainfall. Now, the new indicator also adds information on future trends. A user inputs a location, then selects a crop from 30 options, including coffee, maize, and wheat. The tool then displays the suitability of the selected crops for land in that area, for time periods stretching to 2100, providing a crop suitability score for two different climate emission scenarios. Also planned for this year, according to the FAO, is an indicator with information on livestock heat stress and another for crop water requirements, which would estimate expected rainfall and potential irrigation needs. Strengthening national capacity ABC-Map is one of the technical tools in the COP28 Agriculture, Food, and Climate National Action Toolkit, which aims to help governments develop and implement policy measures on climate action and agri-food system transformation. The app was launched last year during an expert panel on the Food and Agriculture for Sustainable Transformation (FAST) Partnership, at the Global Forum for Food and Agriculture in Berlin, Germany. The tool helps users better understand the synergies and trade-offs among the three pressing and interlinked challenges of climate change mitigation, adaptation, and countering biodiversity loss in the context of safeguarding agriculture and food security. It promotes holistic environmental actions in agriculture.
