Adopt a Jaguar: How, what you get and why it helps
If you've ever wandered through a national park, camera in hand, and felt your heart tug at the sight of an endangered animal, you know that wildlife travel often leaves you wanting more. The thrill of spotting a big cat in the wild is unforgettable, but what happens after the safari ends? Conservation doesn't stop when the jeep turns back. For travellers and wildlife lovers who want their journey to mean more than just a checklist of sightings, there's a way to leave a lasting footprint of care, like adopting a jaguar and helping protect its rainforest home. It's possible now with so many programs available online. One such is WWF's 'Adopt a Jaguar' program that lets you do just that. For as little as £5 a month, you can become an official jaguar guardian, receiving a welcome pack with goodies like a cuddly toy, certificate, and cool video-call background. More than just a memento, your adoption supports vital conservation work, from protecting jaguar habitat in the Amazon to funding community efforts. It's symbolic, meaningful, and lets you join an urgent mission to help prevent the disappearance of these threatened big cats on Earth. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Use an AI Writing Tool That Actually Understands Your Voice Grammarly Install Now Undo What does the adoption support WWF details that jaguars have been wiped out from much of their historic range, with less than half of it remaining intact, and more than 70% of remaining jaguars live in the Amazon rainforest. The adoption funds 'help protect jaguars in the Amazon and fund our other vital work around the world' ( ). What you receive as a donor For around £5 per month, or via one-off payments, adopters receive: A welcome pack featuring optional goodies like a cuddly toy, WWF signature materials, and a video-call background. Three updates per year, delivering fast facts and heart-warming stories about the real-world impact of your support. Read more: Thailand bets on crypto conversions to reignite tourism How your support helps Safeguarding Jaguar strongholds WWF and partners have analyzed over 1.7 million km², equivalent to 41% of the Brazilian Amazon, to identify high-priority areas for jaguar conservation. This helps bolster habitat protection, especially within Indigenous lands recognized as biodiversity sanctuaries. Supporting local communities Adoption funds back community-based projects that: Enable sustainable livelihoods, like ecotourism or Brazil nut collection that reduce dependence on deforestation Assist in monitoring jaguar populations and reducing human–jaguar conflict, such as livestock protection Help WWF work directly with local decision-makers on protected area management. Why jaguars need us now Jaguars are classified as "near threatened," with around 173,000 left in the wild, and that number is falling. Their prime habitat, the Amazon, is being erased at a terrifying pace. WWF reports that an area the size of three football pitches vanishes every minute. This rampant deforestation destroys prey populations and fragments jaguar territories, raising the risk of extinction. Poaching adds further pressure, with jaguars targeted for their body parts or killed in retaliatory attacks by ranchers. Read more: The country with the most spoken languages How adoption makes a difference While symbolic, your adoption is a practical boost: it helps WWF sustain long-term conservation planning, delivers critical community support, and funds projects that preserve uninterrupted habitat, the building blocks of jaguar survival. For as little as £5 a month, you're joining a coalition of global guardians working to keep jaguars roaring for generations. After all, saving the jaguar means saving the Amazon, and that matters for all of us.

FASTag Annual Pass Update: 200 highway trips for just INR 3,000: Everything you want to know about the yearly pass
FASTag is one of the best things that has been introduced for travellers. It is one thing that has solved a lot of issues, including toll booth traffic and making life easier for highway travellers. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), to make highways more affordable and convenient, launched an annual pass on 15 August 2025. The FASTag Annual Pass is a prepaid facility allowing private vehicle owners to take 200 toll-free trips across national highways and expressways for a fee of INR 3,000. The pass is valid for one year or 200 trips, whichever comes first. Let's have a look at some of the prime factors of FASTag Annual Pass: Eligibility The annual pass is only for private, non-commercial vehicles like cars, jeeps, and vans. Commercial vehicles such as taxis, buses, trucks can't use this. The pass is connected directly to the FASTag account and vehicle registration number (VRN) of the user. So it is also non-transferable. What happens if it is misused If a tag is found misused or linked only with a chassis number, it will be deactivated immediately. It is crucial to note that the pass applies only on NHAI and MoRTH-managed toll plazas. State highways, private toll roads, and parking facilities will continue to charge tolls through the standard pay-per-use FASTag system. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Passive Income Ideas Sitting at Home Mone Click Here Undo How to buy and activate (Rajmarg Yatra app) Log in to the Rajmarg Yatra app or visit the NHAI official website. Choose the annual pass option Confirm vehicle details Pay INR 3,000 through UPI, debit/credit cards, or net banking Note: Wallet balances are not accepted If the vehicle's FASTag is already active and linked to a registration number, it's a quick activation. In most cases, the pass activates within two hours. It can take up to 24 hours in rare situations. Once active, users receive a confirmation SMS. Understanding 200 trips concept Every crossing at a toll plaza is counted as one trip. So, for open toll systems, every time you pass through a plaza, one trip is deducted. On closed toll roads such as certain expressways, the entire journey—from entry to exit—is treated as a single trip. The pass remains valid until either 200 trips are used or one year has passed. After that, the FASTag automatically switches back to the regular mode. How is it a money saver deal So understand this: Your one-way toll on national highways might cost between INR 70 to INR 100. In one year, you might end up paying INR 10,000–15,000 on tolls. But with the annual pass, the effective cost per crossing comes down to just INR 15– INR 20. For those who frequently commute between cities—say, from Mumbai to Surat, Delhi to Jaipur, or Bengaluru to Hyderabad—the savings can add up to INR 7,000 or more per year. This is absolutely the thing passengers wanted. With the introduction of the FASTag Annual Pass, the government aims to make highway travel smoother, cashless, and more affordable for millions of private vehicle owners.

Hurricane Erin churns northward: Storm alerts expand in North Carolina, Virginia; beaches shut along US East coast
Hurricane Erin continues its slow west-northwest trajectory across the Atlantic Ocean (Pic credit: AP) Hurricane Erin continued its slow march northward on Tuesday, unleashing rough surf and dangerous rip currents along the US East Coast that forced dozens of water rescues, swimming bans, and widespread beach closures. Erin, the first Atlantic hurricane of 2025, was downgraded to a Category 2 storm but remained a powerful system with sustained winds of 100 mph, according to the National Hurricane Center (NHC). At 11 pm ET, the storm was moving north-northwest at nearly 12 mph, hundreds of miles offshore. The hurricane had earlier exploded to Category 5 strength on Saturday, weakened to Category 3 by Sunday morning, and then regained intensity later in the day. Satellite data and a US Air Force Hurricane Hunter mission indicated the storm was becoming better organised, with slow strengthening expected through Thursday night. Though no landfall was forecast, the NHC warned that Erin's large and expanding wind fields would generate storm-driven waves, coastal erosion and high seas along the Atlantic seaboard. The Outer Banks of North Carolina, a popular vacation destination, was expected to face the worst impact, with significant beach erosion and flooding that could leave roads impassable. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Use an AI Writing Tool That Actually Understands Your Voice Grammarly Install Now Undo Rip currents — narrow, fast-moving channels of water that can drag swimmers away from shore, are responsible for more than 80% of beach rescues in the US. With Erin's impact stretching from South Florida to New England, authorities imposed restrictions to protect beachgoers as life-threatening surf conditions spread northward. The National Weather Service cautioned of storm surge and waves exceeding 10 feet in the region, urging people to stay out of the ocean through at least Thursday. 'The storm surge will be accompanied by large waves, leading to significant beach erosion and overwash, making some roads impassable,' the NHC said in its late-night advisory. North Carolina Governor Josh Stein declared a state of emergency on Tuesday afternoon to mobilise resources and assist with evacuations in vulnerable parts of the Outer Banks. Evacuations were already underway in some low-lying areas popular with summer tourists. Officials in the Northeast also announced precautionary measures. New York Mayor Eric Adams said all city beaches would be closed for swimming on Wednesday and Thursday 'due to dangerous riptides from Hurricane Erin.' New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy urged residents and visitors to avoid wading or swimming in the ocean, citing hazardous rip currents and high waves.
