'Dog ate my passport': All Black rookie in Argentina trip pickle
Carter told New Zealand media Thursday he took a photo of his passport and sent it through to team management then left it on his bedside table.
"My partner went to the gym and left my dog home alone and it's gone down the hallway, jumped on the bed and just chewed up the passport and my teeth aligners," he said.
"It was a bit of a shambles yesterday. I was trying to get an emergency one but I think it's all sussed now."
The 26-year-old is set to pick up an emergency passport in Auckland before flying to Buenos Aires on Friday.
Carter, who played for the New Zealand Sevens at the Paris Olympics, could make his international debut in the 15-man game when they meet Argentina in Cordoba on August 16.

The season will tip off on October 21 and the opening night games will be aired by NBC, marking the league's return to the broadcaster for the first time in 23 years. The ceremony revealed a towering bronze image of Brady with one arm aloft in triumph, the likeness mounted on a six-sided base in a nod to his championship seasons with the Pats. "I'm also a little surprised, because usually they don't build statues until you're really old, like (Mike) Vrabel and (Tedy) Bruschi. Vrabel, a former Brady teammate now in his first season as head coach of the Pats, was at the ceremony. Brady, who was taken 199th overall in the 2000 draft and was the fourth-string quarterback before emerging as a superstar, poked a little fun at himself, too. "I never dreamed I'd be standing here two and a half decades later made of bronze and frozen in time," he said. "It actually feels pretty appropriate given my 40-yard dash time."
