Northam heads to Tamworth primed to snap run of near misses
Rodney Northam takes a strong team up the freeway from Scone for an open meeting on an improving and drying track, with his first and last well placed to take him back into the winner's stall.
Opening the assault is progressive three-year-old Miss You So, which looks primed to peak third-up in a Maiden Plate over 1600m to open the card.
A tough son of dual Cox Plate winner So You Think, Miss You So has done his best work late in two runs back from a spell over shorter trips.
Then in the final race – Benchmark 58 Handicap over 1000m – one of the more emerging sprinters around the Hunter and New England regions shoots for a third straight win.
This One Time, a progressive filly by Alabama Express, has won her last two in dominant fashion from just off the speed, and gets a firming track to suit.
The Northam yard also saddles up a couple of solid chances through the middle of the meeting.
Lightly raced See You Then resumes from the inside draw in a Maiden Plate over 1000m, while improving mare Great Point is a leading chance third-up in a Benchmark 58 Hcp over 1400m.
The stable has been beaten by very small margins in four of its last five starts, including two in Saturday Class 3 Highway company.

Flemington firms as 2026 Cox Plate destination with Moonee Valley Racing Club to consider recommendation
Moonee Valley Racing Club is set to anoint Flemington as its preferred host of the 2026 Group 1 WS Cox Plate (2040m). This masthead has established the MVRC hierarchy could meet as early as Wednesday to consider a recommendation to run Australia's best race at Flemington on October 24, 2026. MVRC chief executive Michael Browell has worked closely with corporate partners and the Victoria Racing Club to broker a historic race meeting transfer, in line with relevant commercial agreements. The Racing Victoria board must ultimately endorse the MVRC recommendation for Flemington to be officially unveiled as host of the $6m Cox Plate. The RV board is scheduled to meet next week to ratify the Cox Plate recommendation. The Valley will be closed after the Cox Plate this year to undergo a full racecourse redevelopment. The Cox Plate is slated to return to The Valley from 2027. The VRC, Melbourne Racing Club and Southside all entered the 2026 Cox Plate sweepstakes. The metropolitan clubs all pitched enticing Cox Plate proposals, however Flemington has long been the industry preferred choice based on metrics including wagering and attendance potential. Commercial in confidence negotiations included economics of a transferred Cox Plate, splits of costs and revenue, along with existing sponsorship agreements. Ladbrokes, subsidiary of global wagering giant Entain, is naming rights sponsor of The Valley and Cox Plate whereas Flemington has enjoyed a long partnership with Tabcorp. RV deferred Cox Plate decision talks in June as The Valley and Flemington administrations ensured respective commercial arrangements with corporate clients were satisfied. The MVRC recommendation, once approved, sets up a bumper Cox Plate-Melbourne Cup Carnival double-header at Flemington next year. The VRC has aspirations to host a 60,000-strong crowd for an iconic Cox Plate at Flemington. The Melbourne Spring Carnival overall enjoyed a renaissance last year, with big crowds and wagering across feature race dates at Caulfield, The Valley and Flemington. The Melbourne Cup Carnival – the four biggest days in Australian racing – attracted more than 285,000 patrons to Flemington last year – the biggest crowd since 2018. Browell was contacted for comment on Monday.

Snowden optimistic Hurry Miss can break duck at Hawkesbury
Randwick trainer Peter Snowden will be hoping promising mare Hurry Miss can live up to her potential and break through with a win in Tuesday's HRC Motel 4YO&Up Maiden Plate (1300m) at Hawkesbury, with Tommy Berry taking the ride. Snowden has started the Yulong-owned daughter of Alabama Express four times, and she has been placed in each of them, including a resuming second at Kembla Grange. 'She's always shown us her share of ability,' said Snowden. 'She was placed at Kembla Grange on debut and then had a couple of city placings in her second preparation. 'She resumed the other day at Kembla Grange again and went down narrowly when second again. She's drawn the rails at Hawkesbury and should get every chance to break through.' Snowden has two other runners set to go around at Hawkesbury, with Look Here lining up in the Blakes Marine Maiden Handicap (1100m) with Andrew Adkins in the saddle. Loading He also has Sukeban, to be ridden by Tom Sherry, lining up in the XXXX Gold Class 1 Handicap (1100m). Look Here is on debut after four trials including two recent hitouts, while Sukeban is resuming having won the Romantic Dream at Tamworth in April.
