Failed trader savagely murders mum to impress famous girlfriend with one error
Andre Rebelo was drowning in debt – information that he hid from his influencer girlfriend - so he came up with a shocking plan to make money that ended in a brutal tragedy
They were a couple with a seemingly enviable life. It was 2020 and Andre Rebelo was a crypto currency trader and his girlfriend of several years was social media influencer and model Gracie Piscopo, who had more than one million Instagram followers.
They had a son together and shared their glamorous lifestyle with their fans online. Rebelo and Gracie lived in a rented luxury home in Perth, Australia. They enjoyed lavish overseas holidays and drove expensive cars.
Rebelo had been a supermarket delivery driver, who everyone believed had built his wealth from crypto trading, but he was hiding a secret. He had told everyone he was coming into $500,000 due to the success of his business, but that was a lie. In reality, after trading for around three years, he was $100,000 in debt and struggling to provide what was needed to keep up the appearance of his extravagant life.
Gracie was unaware of the extreme debt as Rebelo handled their finances. While she earned money as an influencer with growing popularity, the price of their lifestyle was going up in cost too and Rebelo was running out of time to pay off his debts.
On 25 May, 2020, Rebelo's brother Fabian, 23, was concerned when his mum Colleen, 58, didn't pick him up from work at 2pm as planned. Fabian lived with his mum, while his older three siblings, including Rebelo, had left home.
Fabian tried to call his mum and, when there was no answer, he walked to their home in Bicton. He could hear the shower running in the en suite bathroom, but Colleen didn't reply when he called out.
Worried, he entered the bathroom and found his mum slumped on her knees under the running water. He called the emergency services and performed CPR, but she was pronounced dead at the scene by the paramedics.
Colleen's cause of death was undetermined but it wasn't considered suspicious, despite her being healthy. She'd been found wearing mascara and gold jewellery in the shower, which was unusual. The shower mat was draped over the side of the bath as well, but her death was put down to natural causes.
Three days after her death, Rebelo tried to claim on her life insurance. Collectively, the three policies were worth more than $1.15 million and shockingly, despite having three siblings, he appeared to be the sole beneficiary. He particularly pursued one policy that was worth $500,000 – the exact amount he had told Gracie was coming from his trading.
Suspicious behaviour
An insurance company employee grew suspicious as they asked for more paperwork. Rebelo provided fake copies of a coroner's report that said Colleen's cause of death was an aneurysm, a fake report from his mum's psychologist and a forged copy of her will that again named him as the sole beneficiary. The insurance company contacted the police and alerted them to Rebelo's behaviour. Investigators discovered that Rebelo had taken out three policies on his mum in her name in the week before she had died.
After initially denying seeing his mum on the day of her death, his phone records placed him at the house for an hour, just two hours before she was found in the shower. Rebelo eventually said they'd had coffee and when he'd left, she was alive.
The police discovered Rebelo was heavily in debt, and had been using loans and credit cards to keep up the pretence of wealth. Debt collectors had been pursuing him and he was going to struggle to pay the rent on the home he shared with Gracie and their son.
In October 2020, he was charged with forgery offences. In November 2022, there was enough evidence to charge him with his mum's murder. By the time the trial took place in 2024, Gracie and Rebelo had ended their relationship. She wasn't accused of any wrongdoing.
At the trial, Rebelo denied killing his mum but on the first day, he pleaded guilty to four counts of attempts to defraud the insurance company and admitted to forging documents to try to get a payout from one policy. He claimed he was doing it to help his siblings get the money they were due because he feared his mum had taken her own life and that would have made the policies void.
The prosecution said he had murdered his mum because he needed the money to cover his lies and maintain the illusion of his wealth. They alleged he'd only ever made $22 in all of his crypto trades. They said his pursuit of his 'plastic existence', which was played out on social media, led him to murder.
'To the outside world they were rich and beautiful, but the truth was different,' the prosecution said.
They showed the court that Rebelo had created an email address in his mum's name and taken out three policies between 18 and 20 May.
On 25 May, he'd visited his mum and stayed for an hour. Two hours later she was found slumped in the shower.
The court heard that Colleen's cause of death could have been asphyxiation, including by smothering, but it couldn't be confirmed.
Rebelo took the stand and said he hadn't told the police he'd seen his mum on the day of her death because he was not in 'the right state of mind'. He said again that his mother may have taken her own life, which is why he had committed fraud.
Stripped of dignity
After an eight-week trial, Rebelo, 29, was found guilty. In April 2025, he was sentenced to a minimum of 25 years in prison. Rebelo's sentence was backdated to 22 November, 2022, when he was taken into custody.
The judge said the facts about Colleen's death might never be known but Rebelo had staged the scene so it would look like she'd died of natural causes.
'The only reasonable inference is that you took your mother by surprise,' said the judge. 'You used personal violence to kill her. You staged your mother in the shower to make it look like she died of natural causes. In doing so you stripped her of dignity.'
The judge said the crime was premeditated and monstrous. 'The persona you had created alongside Ms Piscopo was more important to you than your familial connection to your mother,' he added.
Outside court, Rebelo's father Antonio Rebelo said he continued to stand by his son.

ICE says it detained TikTok star Khaby Lame and told him to leave the U.S.
U.S. immigration officials said they detained Khaby Lame, one of the world's most popular TikTok personalities, last week and told him to leave the country after they said he "overstayed the terms of his visa." The Italian-Senegalese creator, whose real name is Seringe Khabane Lame, entered the U.S. on April 30, according to a spokesperson for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. He was granted "voluntary departure" on Friday after he was detained by agents at Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas. Lame did not respond to requests for comment made by NBC News. He has not publicly commented on the reported detainment and subsequent departure. Lame has continued to post on social media in the days since he reportedly left the U.S. His most recent Instagram story appears to have been posted from Brazil. Sharks Celebrities Mgmt, which is among the listed agency representatives for the creator, claimed the ICE report is "fake news," telling NBC News in an email that Lame "did not visit the USA this month to begin with." They said the "the name mentioned is not his birth name." It's unclear when Lame was last in the U.S. but he did attend the Met Gala in May. Lame has 162.2 million followers on TikTok, where he grew a massive following during the pandemic after being laid off from a factory job in Italy. The 25-year-old, who is also a goodwill ambassador for the humanitarian aid organization UNICEF, is known for his comedic videos that often use the hashtag, 'learnfromkhaby.' The news comes amid the Trump administration's crackdown on immigration in the U.S., including efforts to detain travelers arriving at the border, including airports. In recent months, social media users have recounted their interactions with immigration officials and shared their fears about traveling back to the U.S. during a period of heightened vigilance at U.S. entry points and borders. Lame is one of the more high-profile people to date to be detained. Last month, Hasan Piker, one of the top political pundits on Twitch, said that he was stopped and questioned by U.S. Customs and Border Patrol officials at Chicago's O'Hare International Airport after a trip to France. The Turkish American streamer, who is vocal on a number of political and social issues, said he was asked about his views, including whether he supports President Donald Trump. Department of Homeland Security Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said at the time that 'claims that his political beliefs triggered the inspection are baseless.' Immigration raids have also ramped up across the U.S., including in Los Angeles, where protests have continued for days as demonstrators push back on the Trump administration's aggressive round-up efforts.

Astonishing footage from police shows Genevieve grabbing Boulares' shoulder as she realises her phone has been taken. She then tackles the serial thief to the ground with the help of another customer. Genevieve managed to take her phone back from Boulares before repeatedly hitting him with it in the posh cafe. She previously claimed she suffered a concussion in the horror in February and said even her dog was "traumatised". The star added: "They didn't expect me to stand up for myself – but I did." Algerian national Boulares previously pleaded guilty to stealing the phone. The teen also admitted common assault against fellow Joe and the Juice customer Carlo Kurcishi, who had stepped in to help. Boulares pleaded guilty to a separate charge of theft after he swiped a black leather hand bag from a diner at a pizza restaurant. The court heard he has 12 previous convictions for a total of 28 offences - all relating to theft. His rap sheet includes threatening to cut off Aled Jones' arm while stealing his £17,000 Rolex. The Songs of Praise presenter, 52, was out with his son Lucas when he was targeted near their home in Chiswick, South West London. Boulares - then aged 16 - pulled out 20 inch machete and repeatedly threatened Aled in a bid to steal the luxury timepiece. He told him: "Give me your f***king Rolex or I will cut your arm off." Aled handed over the £17,000 Rolex Daytona watch rather than fight with the armed robber. He and his son bravely followed the 6ft teen but when he spotted them, he snarled: "Walk the other way or I will cut your head off." Boulares was given a two year training and detention order after pleading guilty to robbery at Ealing Youth Court. But he was released from youth detention early after serving just 14 months of his 24-month sentence. He will be sentenced for robbing Genevieve on June 17 at Isleworth Crown Court. As well as Bridgerton, Genevieve appeared in historical film 1242: Gateway To The West. She is also a former professional athlete who represented Team GB at the Baku 2015 European Games in Artistic swimming events. 7 Genevieve tackled the thief to the ground Credit: Met Police 7 The actress appeared in season three of Bridgerton 7 Genevieve claimed she was left with a concussion Credit: Instagram

I was 15 when my nude pics were leaked – grown men sent them around at the football club & everyone blamed ME
NOT KIDDING I was 15 when my nude pics were leaked – grown men sent them around at the football club & everyone blamed ME Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) LIKE many young girls, Jess Davies wanted to impress her school crush and decided to send him an explicit photo of herself. Little did the 15-year-old know that he would send it around the school and she would become a victim of image abuse. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 2 Jess Davies revealed her nude photo was leaked at just 15-years-old Credit: Instagram/jessdavies "That image got bluetoothed around my school, and then it got shared around my hometown, which was a small hometown in Wales, everyone knows everyone," she explained on the Should I Delete That podcast. Image-based sexual abuse is a criminal offence, it's when someone takes, shares, or threatens to share sexually explicit images or videos of a person without their knowledge or consent, and with the aim of causing them distress or harm. This can include digitally altered images, also known as 'deepfakes' - something Jess has gone on to lobby the government to include in the Online Harms Safety Bill. Now 32, Jess has opened up about the trauma it caused and more shockingly, how she was blamed for the abuse. She revealed that once the photo had circulated in her hometown, it was then shared to grown adult men on the local football team. Instead of seeing Jess as a victim, whose private photo was shared without her consent, people blamed her. "Everyone knew my age because it was a small town, and yet, the whole narrative was around how it was my fault," Jess added. "That I shouldn't have sent it, what kind of girl are you? "There was never any conversation around why are men in their twenties and thirties passing around a child's image?" Jess was left as a teenage girl worrying about how to navigate the situation, and she decided she had to laugh it off. 2 Now, she advocates for sexual abuse victims Credit: Instagram/jessdavies Vicky Pattison shares deepfake porn clip of herself as she warns of dangers on C4 doc She revealed that boys in year 7 would run up and ask for a hug as they had seen the image as well. "I was laughing but secretly, this was humiliating," she said. In the end, her parents also found out about the image, as her nan was told about it from one of the men on the football team, where the image was being circulated. Now, as Jess has gotten older, she realises that the way people treated her for the image was not okay and that she was held more accountable than the grown men sharing the image. It has now led Jess to become an advocate for female rights and sexual abuse. Her BBC documentary 'Deepfake Porn: Could You Be Next' was used to lobby the UK government to criminalise deepfake porn. Jess also has a new book, No One Wants To See Your Dick, a guide for surviving the digital age to help us understand and tackle online misogyny and question society's understanding of consent.
