Marcos says reconciliation shouldn't have conditions
KUALA LUMPUR - President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr. on Tuesday underscored that there should be no conditions in reconciliation.
'No, no, no, no, no, no. No. That's not how reconciliation works. You don't put conditions to reconcile,' Marcos told the Philippine media delegation.
'When you want – if you're sincere, you want to reconcile, let's sit in front of… Ano ba talaga ang problema? Paano nangyari ito? Tanggalin natin ang problema,' he added.
Marcos said having conditions is not pushing reconciliation but making demands.
Asked how far he is willing to go to pursue this reconciliation, Marcos said, 'Put it this way. I don't know. I don't know what will come up. What's needed.'
Marcos earlier disclosed that he is open to reconciling with the Dutertes, saying that he doesn't need enemies, but friends.
Marcos also said he is open to reconciliation as he wants stability in his government.
Marcos and Vice President Sara Duterte were running mates in Eleksyon 2022, with the latter being appointed as Education chief. Their relations, however, had gone sour as Duterte eventually quit from the Cabinet post.
In January 2024, the Duterte patriarch, former President Rodrigo Duterte, called Marcos 'bangag,' meaning high on drugs, as well as someone who wants to be a dictator just like his late father, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
Davao City Mayor Sebastian Duterte also said Marcos should step down from his post because he lacks vision for the country.
In April of last year, First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos said the Vice President was already on her bad side, given that she allowed her father to make disparaging comments on her husband.
The First Lady said she was hurt when Duterte attended a rally where the President was accused of being high on illegal drugs.
Months later, the Vice President continued her tirades against the First Family.
The rift widened after the arrest of Marcos' predecessor due to crimes against humanity charges before the International Criminal Court, a move that was defended by the administration, saying that it only honored its commitment to the Interpol. —LDF, GMA Integrated News

DA eyes lower MSRP for imported rice in July
The Department of Agriculture (DA) over the weekend announced plans to lower the maximum suggested retail price of imported rice by P2 per kilo starting next month, following the decline in the prices of the commodity in the global market. In a statement released Sunday, the DA said it plans to reduce the MSRP of imported rice to P43 per kilo starting July 1, 2025 from the current P45 per kilo that took place on March 31, 2025. Latest data available from the DA's price monitoring show that prices of imported commercial rice in Metro Manila ranged from P39.83 per kilo to P58.65 per kilo as of last Wednesday, June 4, depending on the specification. To recall, President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr., under Executive Order 62 issued in June 2024, lowered tariff rates for rice to 15% until 2028 from 35% previously. This comes as the administration seeks to lower the price of commercial rice, with the P20-per-kilo rice being sold in KADIWA or Kautwang sa Diwa at Gawa para sa Masaganing Ani at Mataas na Kita Centers starting in May, with the pilot set to go through December. This was the campaign promise of Marcos during his presidential run in 2022. Under the program, the government is set to procure rice from the National Food Authority (NFA) at P33 per kilo. These will then be sold at P20 per kilo, with the P13 per kilo subsidy to be shared by the national government and the local government units at P6.50 each. 'Marami pa rin ang nagdududa kung paano masu-sustain o patatagalin itong P20 rice na ito. May stock pa ba tayo ng bigas? Kaya ba ito na bayaran ng gobyerno?' Marcos said in a vlog released Sunday. 'Masu-sustain po natin 'yan basta't nagtutulungan ang lahat. Ang sisiguruhin natin ay hindi mawawalan ng abot kayang bigas ang ating mga kababayan,' he added. Deans of Ateneo schools, Lasallian Family and Adamson add to call for VP Sara impeachment
The Deans of Ateneo schools, the Lasallian Family and Adamson University were among the country's educational institutions that joined the call for the immediate impeachment of Vice President Sara Duterte on Sunday. The leadership of the three educational institutions were unanimous for the Senate to immediately proceed with the impeachment trial of Duterte. Ateneo "We are making this urgent call in faithful response to our moral and spiritual duty as educators and formators of future Ateneo lawyers. We pray that the Philippine Senate will likewise respond to its moral and constitutional duty as true servants of the public upon whom the public trust is reposed, one that is faithful to the truth and to the Filipino people," Ateneo said in a joint statement. The statement was signed by the deans of the schools and colleges of law of Ateneo de Manila University, Xavier University—Ateneo de Cagayan, Ateneo de Davao University, Ateneo de Zamboanga University and Ateneo de Naga University. 'We, the undersigned Deans of the schools and colleges of law of Ateneo de Manila University, Xavier University—Ateneo de Cagayan, Ateneo de Davao University, Ateneo de Zamboanga University and Ateneo de Naga University collectively call for the immediate commencement of the impeachment trial against Vice President Sara Zimmerman Duterte-Carpio and its continuation into the 20th Congress, if necessary.' it said. We express deep concern over any and all efforts to delay, obstruct or prematurely dismiss this constitutionally mandated process,' the school said in its statement In citing the 1987 Constitution, Adamson said, 'this is a clear constitutionality order to act immediately, and does not in any way imply that the Senate has discretionary powers in this regard. Thus, any delay or refusal to act undermines this express mandate and weakens the foundations of our democratic institutions,' the statement said. 'To our Dear Senators, this is not the time for neutrality or passive observation; this is the time for principled leadership and decisive action. Do what is right instead of what is convenient for you. You must immediately commence impeachment proceedings as mandated by the Constitution, without further delay. You have procrastinated far too long… The Constitution demands action forthwith, and so do we,' the Adamson statement ended. The statements are the latest in what has become several calls from various educators and their stances regarding the impeach of Duterte. Marcos highlights shared history between PH and China in Binondo event
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Saturday led the Jones Bridge lighting ceremony in Binondo, Manila, where he spoke about the shared history between the Philippines and China. In his speech, Marcos recalled familiar foods associated with Binondo, such as dumplings, lumpia, mami, hopia, and siopao. 'As a young boy, my earliest memories about Binondo [were] about food… I still always return to the comforting delicacies from the Binondo shops that have stood the test of time,' he said. 'More than the food, it is also about the feeling. When we are here, we can feel the sense of place that has shaped Manila and its people. Now, essential to Binondo is the historic Jones Bridge—a landmark—it has endured wars, floods, and a long, long history,' he continued. Among those present at the lighting ceremony were First Lady Liza Araneta Marcos and China's Ambassador to the Philippines Huang Xilian, whom the President described as a "valued guest and friend." 'I am also glad to share that tonight's event has a deeper meaning. This project commemorates 50 years of diplomatic relations between the Philippines and the People's Republic of China. Half a century of friendship and shared history, all reflected here in the world's oldest Chinatown,' he said. He said the Chinatown Revitalization Project aims to ''transform Binondo into a place that we can always return to.'' 'Because how can we know our history and culture if we do not know and experience them ourselves? So, I encourage everyone, especially the younger people, to visit Binondo. Come back to Ongpin, Escolta, Carvajal, and the streets that have yet to be discovered and celebrated,' he said. 'In times like these, when everything can feel loud and fast and confusing, I believe what we need is right here. A place as simple as a bridge or a street that tells us to pause and to reflect on who we are and what we share as a nation,' he added.
