Cirque du Soleil's annual holiday spectacular is coming back to Madison Square Garden

Time Outa day ago
Cirque du Soleil, famous for defying reality (and gravity), is returning to New York City this holiday season. Due to overwhelming success, their special first and only holiday show, " Twas the Night Before..." will return to The Theater at Madison Square Garden for just a few weeks in December.
Inspired by the classic poem "A Visit from Saint Nicholas" by Clement Clarke Moore, Cirque's story follows a jaded young girl who rediscovers the magic of the holidays. Directed by James Hadley, a 25-year veteran of circus productions and live theater, "Twas the Night Before..." combines classic Christmas spirit with jaw-dropping acrobatic stunts.
Performed by a cast of 26 artists from all over the world, the family-friendly show features lovable characters, Christmas cheer and a Cirque du Soleil soundtrack of re-invented Christmas favorites.
Plus, expect Cirque's iconic acrobatics, from a mesmerizing aerial straps duo and daring hoop diving, to gravity-defying hair suspension and high-energy dancing. You'll see tricks so surprising—from a dance performance featuring a high-flying bellhop cart to a fast-paced roller-skating performance—that you might mistake them for visions of sugar plums dancing in your head.
"There's nothing like NYC during the holiday season and bringing Cirque du Soleil's 'Twas the Night Before...' back to The Theater at MSQ truly feels like coming home for the holidays," Hadley said in a statement. "To bring our unique take on the holidays to life, we took the classic poem 'A Visit from Saint Nicholas' and let our imaginations run wild, creating a world full of wonder, color and the kind of unexpected excitement only Cirque du Soleil can deliver."

B&M launches festive chocolate boxes including Reese's treats

B&M shoppers were flabbergasted to find Christmas selection boxes on the shelves. We're still over two months away from Halloween, yet the festive chocolate treats are already being stocked. 6 6 6 Fans of the budget retailer have expressed conflicted opinions, with some arguing it's too soon, while others admitted they'd still "scoff them". A picture of the seasonal goodies was shared in the Dansway Gifts and Bargains UK Facebook Group. "Festive Chocolate Selection Boxes are BACK at B&M," one shopper wrote. "A few we found whilst in store today, there's lots of other Christmas chocolate to choose from!" But one disappointed customer penned: "We've not even finished summer yet or had Halloween. "I swear Christmas gets earlier and earlier every year, makes you wonder how long these chocolates sit there before we buy and save for Christmas." Another added: "Too soon for Christmas but I'd still scoff them." The post is still garnering shares and likes, with many tagging their pals in the comments. While it may feel premature to start stocking up on Christmas treats, bargain hunters often bag better deals in the off-season. In fact, one expert has shared why now is the ideal time to buy your festive decorations, and where to buy them. FDA issues urgent recall of 'shaped' chocolate sold across US and on online over 'deadly' ingredient The selection boxes advertised in B&M include classics such as Cadbury, Nestle, Galaxy and Reese's peanut butter snacks. This comes as shoppers have also been complaining about Halloween decorations being pushed by major stores across the UK. Clothing and homeware brand Matalan is already giving people a taste of Autumn with its Halloween-themed products. One person complained: "Does someone want to tell Matalan its July. Don't get me wrong my fave time of year is Autumn but we're not there yet. "I've got to get through the hot months before I can look forward to hot chocs and blankets!" 6 6 6 Another one added: "Crazy.. let's have summer first!!" A third commented: "Getting too much with shops they always seem to be pushing things that are months away instead of enjoying the season we're in." One fan said: "Definitely not ready for this yet." Elsewhere, shelves at TK Maxx have been stocked with Halloween tea towels, cushions, blankets and plush toys from four months before the spooky holiday. How to save money on chocolate We all love a bit of chocolate from now and then, but you don't have to break the bank buying your favourite bar. Consumer reporter Sam Walker reveals how to cut costs... Go own brand - if you're not too fussed about flavour and just want to supplant your chocolate cravings, you'll save by going for the supermarket's own brand bars. Shop around - if you've spotted your favourite variety at the supermarket, make sure you check if it's cheaper elsewhere. Websites like let you compare prices on products across all the major chains to see if you're getting the best deal. Look out for yellow stickers - supermarket staff put yellow, and sometimes orange and red, stickers on to products to show they've been reduced. They usually do this if the product is coming to the end of its best-before date or the packaging is slightly damaged. Buy bigger bars - most of the time, but not always, chocolate is cheaper per 100g the larger the bar. So if you've got the appetite, and you were going to buy a hefty amount of chocolate anyway, you might as well go bigger. One shopper shared pictures of Halloween items on the shelves in the retailer's Doncaster store, saying: "It's starting." Others chimed in to say they'd also seen Halloween products in the stores in Preston and Oldham. One person commented: "No no NO ….. let's have summer first before we start seeing autumn things ….. jeeeez way too early !!" Another said: "Wooow really getting earlier and earlier every year huh!! will start seeing xmas stuff next week no doubt." A third person said: "Its June!!!! this is far too early." Some experts have said the growth of online shopping has meant traditional retailers are trying to extend the holiday season to compete. It's also because they have boosted profits during holiday seasons as shoppers spend more. Shops have been putting out their holiday stocks even earlier in recent years. Some experts have said the growth of online shopping has meant traditional retailers are trying to extend the holiday season to compete. It's also because they have boosted profits during holiday seasons as shoppers spend more. Charlotte Harrington, the manager at Summerhill's Garden Centre in Basildon, Essex, previously told The Sun that they open their Christmas department on the August bank holiday. "The stock comes in early and we gradually start putting it out on the shop floor. This is just a small fraction of what we have," she said. "But our Christmas displays are so spectacular it takes time to get everything set up, so we have to start early."

Home Alone director reveals why a reboot would be a huge ‘mistake'

Chris Columbus has shed light on why Home Alone 'should be left alone' and not rebooted. The iconic Christmas film was released in 1990 and catapulted Macaulay Culkin to superstardom as youngster Kevin McCallister, who is left to fend for himself when his family accidentally go on holiday without him. His quick-thinking saves the day when he's forced to go up against bumbling burglars Harry (Joe Pesci) and Marv (Daniel Stern), who learn the hard way not to mess with kids during the holidays. The movie was a huge success and went on to spawn an equally epic sequel the following year – with Disney dropping a fresh take on the classic in 2021. However, when questioned on whether he would want to see any further remakes, director Chris insisted that it would be a 'mistake' to go back. Appearing at the premiere for his new Netflix movie, The Thursday Murder Club, he told Entertainment Tonight: 'I think Home Alone really exists not as this timepiece, but it was very special moment. You can't really recapture that. 'I think it's a mistake to try to go back and recapture something we did 35 years ago. I think it should be left alone.' Sharing his surprise that the movie is so beloved more than three decades on, he added: 'When we were making Home Alone, we wanted people to still enjoy the movie 20 years down the road, but we had no concept that it would still be this locomotive that keeps keeps going after all these years. 'It's a very nostalgic experience for a lot of people, it's great.' The franchise was remade in 2021 with Archie Yates playing youngster Max, who – like Kevin – was accidentally left behind when his family swanned off to Japan. He was having the time of his life with his new-found freedom until a couple set their sights on his home, hoping to retrieve a priceless heirloom. Home Sweet Home Alone didn't quite capture the magic of the original film, and was brutally panned by both fans and professionals. More Trending It currently commands a 13% Rotten Tomatoes score from the audience, compared to a slightly higher critics mark of 15%. 'A disgrace to Home Alone,' viewer BlueTop B fumed, as Amilia P agreed: 'One of the worst movies I've ever seen.' 'It really is very remarkably bad,' Tim L complained. As Logan D added: 'If I could give it zero stars I would, just watch the original.' Got a story? The retailer kicked off the festive season with the launch of the video through its social media channels at 9am last November. But while fans still have a while to wait to see the final masterpiece starring Aimee Lou, one local, Chloe Granger, recently shared snaps of her hometown following the festive makeover - so, do you recognise it? Outside the local pub, the popular supermarket had placed several Christmas trees and a huge, rich green garland upon the entrance. The whole street was also covered in fake snow - and the light sky indeed gave it that crispy winter morning feel. The rest of the picturesque buildings, she shared in the video, also featured a variety of ''cute'' decorations to fit the theme. ''Fake snow lining the streets! If only it actually looked like this in winter,'' chuckled Chloe who posts under the username @itschloegranger. After strolling down the local street, the resident said she was inspired by the decorations - despite it being one of the hottest weeks of the year. ''It looks so festive, walking around really got me in the mood for Christmas, even though this was happening in the middle of a heatwave. ''Can't wait to see the ad!'' M&S reveals SIX different Christmas food adverts featuring comedy legend and music star Chloe - who lives in Hatfield - also shared a hilarious snap where TikTok users could see people walking around topless and in shorts, which made for a rather bizarre contrast. ''It definitely took a sec for my brain to make sense of what I was seeing,'' she chuckled. Chloe added she was ''very ready for the festive season and cooler weather now''. The jaw-dropping transformation of the sleepy town has since taken the platform by storm, racking up close to 570k views in just one day. As almost 45k people gave it a like, more than 190 flooded to comments, where one said: ''It's making me crave winter so much.'' Another chuckled: ''I'd be saying you can use my house as long as i can keep the decorations you put up.'' A third was stunned, writing: ''It's actually mental how these photos make it look like a crispy winter morning at sunrise.'' Someone else chimed in: ''Imagine how hot any actors feel, having to walk down the street in winter clothes, when it's 30 degrees outside.''
