Boil Water Advisory issued in Northwest DC
DC Water said the advisory was issued as a precaution, due to a loss of water pressure.
Nearly 5,000 customers were impacted in neighborhoods including:
Chevy Chase
Friendship Heights
Tenleytown
AU Park
Spring Valley
Cleveland Park
Woodley Park
Van Ness
Glover Park
Wesley Heights
Cathedral Heights

Customers in the area were advised to discard any beverages and ice made after 2:27 p.m. on June 12 and to run cold water until clear before boiling.
If sources of lead are present, customers should run cold water for at least two minutes before boiling.
Prior to consuming or using water, customers should let it boil for at least one minute and let it cool. Then, you should store it in a clean, covered container.
Cooled, boiled water or bottled water should be used for:
Drinking
Brushing teeth
Preparing and cooking food
Washing fruits and vegetables
Preparing infant formula
Making ice
Washing dishes by hand
Giving water to pets
Even if you use a home filtering device, you should still first boil water.
DC Water said a water pump station lost power during the afternoon on Thursday, resulting in pump failures and a loss of system pressure. Pressure has since been restored and returned to impacted customers.
Due to the time during which pressure was lost, however, contaminants may have entered the distribution system, leading to the Boil Water Advisory as a precaution.

Boil water advisory for Bon Lea area of Augusta County lifted
The last remaining Boil Water Advisory in Augusta County has been lifted. Officials received the final required test results and authorization from the Virginia Department of Health – Office of Drinking Water as of Aug. 18. With that authorization, Augusta County lifted the Boil Water Advisory in the Bon Lea area of the county. Bon Lea is a subdivision located approximately three miles west of the City of Staunton off of Route 250 (Churchville Avenue). This includes Bon Lea Drive, Farmington Drive, Field Haven Place, and Baldwin Lane. 'Results are looking favorable': Second round of water testing underway in Staunton
As of Sunday afternoon, the City of Staunton remains under a Boil Water Advisory as it continues to wait for test results on water samples from across the city. Water samples must be tested for both residual chlorine and bacteria, and this testing process must be completed twice in separate rounds. The city is currently in the second round of bacteria testing. These results should be ready by mid-morning August 18, the city said in an update. At this point, results are looking favorable to lift the Boil Water Advisory Monday. However, please wait for the official all clear from the city, the update said. Residential and business customers should continue to boil water before using it for drinking, cooking, or brushing teeth. Bring water to a rolling boil for at least one minute and let it cool before use. Continue to follow these precautions until the city notifies residents that the boil water advisory has been lifted. Customers do not need to boil water for taking a shower, washing clothes in a washing machine, or running the dishwasher on a sanitize setting. Where can I get water in Staunton? City opens distribution sites during boil advisory
The City of Staunton has set up water distribution sites with bottled and gallon water. These will be open throughout the advisory during the daytime. All City of Staunton water customers remain under a Boil Water Advisory issued Aug. 15 due to an overnight water main break. The boil water precautions are for water consumption and will be in place for approximately the next 48 hours. Once water is restored, even if the pressure and water look typical, you need to boil until told otherwise. The water distribution sites will have a limit of one case of water or two gallon jugs per vehicle. Bring water to a rolling boil for at least one minute and let it cool before use. Continue to follow these precautions until the city notifies residents that the boil water advisory has been lifted. Water main break status Utility crews repaired the broken 16-inch water main behind Stocker Street by mid-morning Aug. 15. To complete the repair, water service had to be shut off. This caused low water pressure throughout much of the city and required service interruptions in higher-elevation areas. The utility department is now slowly restoring water flow to replenish the system. Customers may see water service return, but the boil water advisory remains in effect. After water is fully restored, water testing and sampling will begin to ensure the water is safe.
