Swan One Design Worlds At The Yacht Club Costa Smeralda Sets High Standards For Serious And Sophisticated Sailing Competition
Full disclosure. Nautor Swan yachts have had a special place in my heart since 1993. Back then, I was 20-year-old dreamer who set off from Newport, Rhode Island to see the world aboard a Swan 651. And being a deckhand on a 65-foot-long Swan that already had a legendary reputation for quality, performance, safety, and a distinctively elegant style was in fact a dream come true.
But that was a few years before Leonardo Ferragamo bought the well-respected Nautor Swan shipyard based in Finland. Yes, that Leonardo Ferragamo (who started in his family's Florence-based Ferragamo fashion brand when he was 20-years-old and went on to become the Chairman of the company) is also a passionate sailor.
The Swan One Design Worlds at the YCCS in Porto Cervo features spectacular racing in a spectacular ... More setting
And as I found out during the Swan One Design World Championships at the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda in Porto Cervo this weekend (he competes in the ClubSwan 50 class), he's as passionate about sailing now as he was then.
'I was in love with Swan for ten years before I bought the company,' he said before the final day of racing. 'In addition to the sheer joy of sailing and racing, one of the things that made me so passionate about Swan was the similarities I saw with my company. And though the businesses are different, I love how each must have a similar approach to make sure that everything is credible, reliable, and always the best that money can buy.

'When I took the company over the Swan Cup was already well established. But I wanted to bring Swan racing to a whole other level.'
And to do that, Nautor Swan had to do more than just build sexy new high-performance raceboats and provide state-of-the-art service. To really provide the best experience for Swan owners like himself, Ferragamo believed the company had to organize world-class racing and events all over the world for Swan owners to enjoy as well.
'Our goal is not only to push the boundaries of performance but also to cultivate a community where the spirit of competition is balanced with friendship and mutual respect," says Giovanni Pomati CEO of Nautor Swan. "The 2025 racing calendar is a celebration of the unity that sailing brings, and we eagerly look forward to seeing these values shine through in every race.'
And anyone who participated in the recent Nations League Swan One Design World Championships at the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda in Porto Cervo will attest, they have. In fact, not only were all of the 35 boats that raced four classes (12 ClubSwan 50s, 7 ClubSwan 42s, 9 ClubSwan 36s and 7 in the new ClubSwan 28), treated to world class racing in one of the most desirable venues in the Mediterranean. Crews and families enjoyed welcome cocktails in the YCCS's cocktail bar on the first night of the event, and the Swan One Design World's Owners Dinner on the YCCS's pool terrace before the final day of racing.
The Yacht Club Costa Smeralda in Porto Cervo is where the Swan One Design Worlds 2025 took place
'The relationship between Nautor Swan and the YCCS is a special one,' said YCCS Commodore Andrea Recordati. 'We celebrated 40 years of mutual and fruitful cooperation at last year's Rolex Swan Cup. Our race course once again offered varied conditions on each of the four days, from light breeze to Mistral wind, making for a well-balanced and engaging event.'
Hendrik Brandis and his crew celebrate winning the 2025 ClubSwan 50 World Championship at the YCCS ... More in Porto Cervo
Meanwhile, out on the race course, Earlybird from Germany clinched the title of ClubSwan 50 World Champion with one race to spare. A beaming owner Hendrik Brandis, back on the dock and surrounded by his team, declared: 'We are unbelievably happy that we've finally become the world champions of the ClubSwan 50. We have been trying to achieve this for many years, since the inception of the class. I think we came in three times as vice champions, but we never made it. And this year everything worked well together, a fantastic team, perfect conditions, and we made it – we're very very happy and ready to celebrate!'
Brazilian Hakon Lorentzen's Mamao took home the title of ClubSwan 36 class champion for the third time. 'I can't believe that we have managed to win the ClubSwan 36 title three times,' he said. 'I started sailing on an Optimist at 10 years old and I would never have believed we would have come this far. Winning anywhere is great. But winning in Porto Cervo it's even more great.'
Mamao wins the ClubSwan 36 class at the 2025 Swan One Design Worlds
The ClubSwan 42 class was won by the Spanish boat Pez de Abril, owned by class veteran José Maria Meseguer. 'I've been in Porto Cervo so many times and not had great luck,' he said. 'This time we won the Cup so we're very happy with that. Racing in a one design class is fantastic, with all the boats being the same, being so competitive, being so tight in windward and downwind racing, it's a magnificent experience. I wouldn't change that for anything else in the world.'
ClubSwan 28 Swing owned by Japan's Keisuke Suzuki won the ClubSwan 28 class
The brand new ClubSwan 28 Swing owned by Japan's Keisuke Suzuki aided by the tactical skills of multiple world champion and Olympic 470 gold medalist Will Ryan will be the first name engraved on the Gold Cup for this class.
The cool thing is this was only one of several stops on ClubSwan racing calendar that culminates in St. Tropez at The Nations League 2025 regatta in October where all ClubSwan one design and rating classes will compete for the Nations Cup.
Tight racing and beautiful surroundings at the Swan One Design Worlds at the YCCS in Porto Cervo
As you might have guessed that special place I have in my heart for Nautor Swan has grown. A lot. And I'm going to come right out and say it. Lenardo Ferragamo's vison to propel Nautor Swan to the next level with The ClubSwan racing program (in addition to consistently launching innovative new designs, a comprehensive support network, and even charter and brokerage divisions) sets an impressively high bar for anyone who is passionate about sailing.
And now that Nautor Swan has recently merged with San Lorenzo Yachts I'm pretty sure the bar is going to be raised even higher.
The Swan 128 undersail.
Oh, by the way, the Swan One Design World Championships at the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda in Porto Cervo wasn't the only newsworthy Nautor Swan event taking place this month. The Sparkman & Stephens Swan Rendezvous took place the same weekend on the island of Elba. And the newest Swan superyacht—the Swan 128—is being introduced to the press at the shipyard in Finland as we speak.

Lamborghini Temerario test drive: $380K hybrid supercar delivers mind-boggling performance
Lamborghini's (VWAGY) latest creation, the Temerario supercar, has some big shoes to fill. Let me rephrase that — the 900hp, all-wheel drive, plug-in hybrid Temerario with a 10,000 RPM turbo V8 has some big shoes to fill. Che cosa? That's because it's replacing the much-loved Huracán: the outgoing serpent-like, alien-looking creation equipped with a sublime, yet ferocious when needed, naturally aspirated V-10 engine. The Huracán was amazing. But times are changing. Around a year ago at Monterey Car Week, Lamborghini unveiled the Temerario, which loosely translates to 'reckless' in Italian. The long-in-the-tooth Huracán — which, believe it or not, is over 10 years old and shared some underpinnings with sister brand Audi's R8 — needed a refresh. Lamborghini also sold 30,000 units of the $250K+ Huracán, its best-selling car ever. In other words, it couldn't mess this up. And with changing rules like emissions and electrified propulsion needed in certain European locales, hybrid power was needed. Lamborghini knew it had to convince buyers this wasn't a 'green' thing — it's about performance. It did this convincingly with the Revuelto, its range-topping supercar that combines a V12 with a hybrid system, using electric motors more for performance than range. Switch Auto Insurance and Save Today! Affordable Auto Insurance, Customized for You The Insurance Savings You Expect Great Rates and Award-Winning Service Lamborghini's CEO Stephan Winkelmann notes the car is completely new from top to bottom, including, of course, the new powertrain. It has to be exciting, he says, but also livable. Lamborghini seems to have threaded that needle, at least for now: The car is sold out through its first year of production, he said, which is a nice start for the brand. The drive I took the Temerario on the track for a few sessions to put the car through its performance envelope. Styling-wise, it's a sleek, attractive car that fits the mold of what regular people envision when they think of a supercar. It's wide, low-slung, and angular. Not as extreme as the Huracán, but sexy in its own right. The rear is more interesting, with its fully exposed V-8 engine out back and fenders with wide cut-outs exposing the car's bulging rear tires, a nod to motorcycle design. One area the Temerario vastly improves on the Huracán is the interior. Better materials all around, better infotainment and instrument cluster digital screens with nice animations —and more space owing to slightly larger dimensions. Fewer buttons is not a welcome change, though it seems most of these functions are now controls on the steering wheel. On the track is where it all comes together. With its hybrid system, the Temerario features two motors powering each front wheel individually, giving the car true torque vectoring. That means the wheels can spin and apply force independently on their own. This also means that, while the rear wheels are powered by the monster V8, the front wheels can provide force at different times, like during an aggressive turn, keeping the car's line true and giving extra assistance around corners. Traction is of course improved as well. So handling-wise, the car feels a lot smaller than it really is, which makes even the most aggressive track easier to deal with. But true heart of the beast is its twin turbo, flat-plane-crank V8 motor. Combined with the two motors up front and one sandwiched in between the 8-speed transmission, the Temerario has a mind-boggling 900hp on tap. The engine alone is a marvel, able to spin up to 10,000 RPM. It is designed to keep pulling to that red line. Usually, most motors will start petering out at those heady levels. This allowed the Temerario to hit ungodly, panic-inducing speeds on the straightaways of nearly 200mph, which then meant going hard on the brakes, and then into the next curve without losing it. Those front motors really helped get the car back on the proper race line if you braked too deeply into the first turn, for example. The car allowed me to string faster lap after faster lap in succession, giving me confidence to push harder into every turn, and brake later. Yes, it is overall a better car than the Huracán when it comes to aggressive track driving. And I'm sure it's a perfectly livable car too — meaning, in theory, you could take it around town to run some errands — though I didn't get the chance to drive on local roads. But I have a few complaints, believe it or not. The loss of the Huracán's V10 really hurts from an emotional point of view — the sound of the 10-cylinder revving higher is intoxicating. Yes, the Temerario at 10,000 RPM screaming down the straightaway does give you that emotional kick, but most owners will not be pushing the car anywhere near that mind-boggling limit. Most owners will be driving around town or on some nice backcountry roads. And though I said it was subjective, the styling for me is a bit too toned down too, at least compared to the outgoing Huracán. For a car that starts at $382,654 in the US, we would like more of a wow factor. Lamborghini isn't done with the Temerario Lamborghini won't sit idly when it comes to special or updated versions of the Temerario. Performance models with aggressive styling and enhancements to the powertrain may mean more exciting versions could be coming. This is all part of the game plan. And some buyers actually prefer the base models of Lamborghini's creations because they are the purest form of these vehicles. But, finally, I have to ask: Could we see a Temerario special edition combining a non-turbo screaming V8 with those trick electric motors up front, or one with an aggressive, race car-like aero package? Rovanpera delights home crowd with Rally of Finland victory
Finland's Kalle Rovanpera boosted his bid for a third world rally championship title with a dominant win in front of his home fans in the Rally of Finland on Sunday. The 24-year-old Toyota driver, world champion in 2022/23, competing in his birthplace swept the points, securing 35, having also won the 'Power Stage' and the 'Super Sunday' to move into second place, just three points off series leader Elfyn Evans. Rovanpera, winning his home rally for the first time, recorded his 17th career win, second this term, beating two other Toyota drivers Japan's Takamoto Katsuta and Sebastien Ogier of France. Ogier lies in third place overall, 13 points adrift of Evans, who finished fourth and replaced Ott Tanak on top of the title standings as the Estonian endured a nightmare race and finished 10th. The Hyundai driver's hopes of victory had disappeared when he was slapped with a five-minute penalty after an incident on Friday. Tanak left the control zone after tyre scanning before receiving permission from a scrutineer and struck the official with his front bumper resulting in minor injuries. His sanction also carries a suspended penalty of 35 championship points. The title race looks set to go down to the wire with just five races remaining, though, defending champion Thierry Neuville's hopes of defending his crown dimmed further as he finished sixth. The drivers move on to the Rally of Paraguay, which runs from August 28-31. nb/pi/nr

Report – Inter Milan Could Try To Secure Atalanta Talisman With Player + Cash Offer
Inter Milan could reportedly try to convince Atalanta on a deal for Ademola Lookman with a player-plus-cash offer. This according to today's print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews. The status of Inter Milan's pursuit of Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman is still up in the air. It's been a couple days since La Dea's bombshell rejection of Inter's second offer for the Nigerian. They turned down a bid of €42 million plus €3 million in add-ons. And Inter are still mulling over whether to return with another improved bid. Inter Could Offer Player + Cash To Atalanta For Ademola Lookman BERGAMO, ITALY – MAY 12: Ademola Lookman of Atalanta warms up prior to the Serie A match between Atalanta and AS Roma at Gewiss Stadium on May 12, 2025 in Bergamo, Italy. (Photo by) As the Corriere dello Sport note, there are a few motivations for Atalanta not to want to sell Lookman to Inter. The first is that La Dea do not need to cash in after selling Mateo Retegui to Al-Qadsiah. Linked to that, Atalanta are reluctant to weaken their team further by selling yet another key attacking player. Particularly after also losing coach Gian Piero Gasperini. Meanwhile, the third reason for Atalanta to be reluctant to accept an offer from Inter is that they prefer to sell Lookman to a club outside Serie A. For that same reason, they're not keen to sell the 27-year-old to Napoli. Inter are still unsure of what kind of valuation Atalanta would even have for Lookman. If La Dea are to hold out for in excess of €50 million, then Inter will likely walk away from the talks. However, the Corriere reports, the Nerazzurri may not just raise the offer if they believe the valuation is reasonable. They could also offer a player going the other way as a makeweight.
