SO-BAR New pub coming to major Scots city – but there's a huge twist
A NEW bar serving up an unlikely twist is set to open in Aberdeen - thought to be the first of its kind in Scotland.
The business, called SOBR, will open its doors in the Granite City in the autumn.

The premises will offer customers a range of non-alcoholic drinks.
SOBR is the brainchild of Kate Kenyon, from Turriff, Aberdeenshire, who was inspired by her best pal who gave up drinking.
The 33-year-old was inspired by sober bars in London and the US, where customers can socialise and relax without feeling obligated to consume alcohol.
SOBR will serve up a wide variety of alcohol free beers, ciders, cocktails, spirits and wines.
It will also offer a selection of non-alcoholic birthday shots.
'I was so incredibly touched by Isla's journey in becoming sober that I knew I wanted to create a space for everyone,' Kate told The Herald.
'We both went on this journey together and I could see her life transform in front of my eyes. She was smashing half marathons, getting promoted at work, and was just dealing with everyday pressures so much better than she ever had.
"We realised when we were out for dinner or social occasions that there weren't great options for people who don't drink.
"We were looking for something or somewhere that had the same appeal as going out for a cocktail does, just without being surrounded by alcohol.
"That's when I began thinking seriously about SOBR.'

SOBR will also serve up health drinks for those who are seeking to boost their energy and detox.
Hot drinks, including coffee, will also be available as well as seasonal 'theatrical' cocktails.
The new venture will have 20 seats and open on Aberdeen's Thistle Street in October.

Arsenal are big spenders but failure to sell is holding them back in transfer window – their record sale speaks volumes

TAKING THE MIK Arsenal are big spenders but failure to sell is holding them back in transfer window – their record sale speaks volumes Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) ARSENAL have gone big this summer with a spending spree of nearly £200million. But when it comes to sales – needed during this transfer window to balance their squad and their kitty, as well as bring in more new faces – the Gunners are lagging behind their rivals. So far this window, Arsenal have recouped around £6.9m, seeing Brazilian winger Marquinhos head to Cruzeiro for £2.6m and Nuno Tavares to Lazio for £4.3m, while Thomas Partey, Jorginho, Takehiro Tomiyasu and Kieran Tierney left on frees. Only Leeds [£6.5m], Everton [£3.4m], Manchester United, Crystal Palace and Fulham [all £0] have brought in less so far. The comparison to their Prem title rivals is stark. Liverpool have raked in £188.5m from the likes of Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez. READ MORE ON ARSENAL COR-NER BLIMEY Fans spot Arsenal's sneaky new tactic to manipulate new Premier League rule Noni Madueke and Joao Felix have helped Chelsea pocket £205.7m while James McAtee's departure has seen Manchester City hit £55.7m. Even Nottingham Forest [£102.1m], Bournemouth [£197.5m], Brighton [£104.7m], Wolves [£98.7m] and Brentford [£83.8m] have had fruitful outgoings. This has been an historical issue for Arsenal. Their record sale remains Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain's £35m switch to Liverpool in 2017. Below that, it is Nicolas Anelka's £30m move to Real Madrid 26 YEARS AGO, one that famously allowed Arsene Wenger to build a new training ground and sign eventual club-record scorer Thierry Henry in 1999. CASINO SPECIAL - BEST CASINO BONUSES FROM £10 DEPOSITS Arsenal have attempted to address this issue in recent years, selling Aaron Ramsale to Southampton, Eddie Nketiah to Crystal Palace and Emile Smith Rowe to Fulham for a combined total of around £89m in the summer of 2024. And in 2023, another academy graduate Folarin Balogun left for Monaco in a move that could hit £35m with bonuses. Over the next couple of weeks before the end of the window, Arsenal's sales stats could look far more healthy. Should the likes of Fabio Vieira, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Leandro Trossard, Jakub Kiwior, Albert Sambi Lokonga, Reiss Nelson exit for their market value, it could take their outgoings to well over £100m. It would be a welcome addition to their kitty with targets still being eyed up this summer, including a blockbuster move for Real Madrid's Rodrygo. In arguing why their sales have not been as big as their rivals, boss Mikel Arteta can point to several factors. When he first took over in December 2019, he inherited a bloated squad full of ageing stars on big wages, forcing the club to take action by accepting the financial hit, ripping up contracts for free transfers to welcome younger, hungrier, more cost-effective players in their bold and risky recruitment strategy in a desperate attempt to fix the culture at the club. In an ideal world, they would have earned some money back on the departures of big hitters Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Mesut Ozil, David Luiz and Alexandre Lacazette, instead of allowing them to leave for nothing. And as a result of this, young academy stars like Saka, Smith Rowe, Nelson, Nketiah and Balogun were relied on and trusted in the first team far more than the likes of Liverpool, Man City and Chelsea – who have made a habit of selling their homegrown talents for big profits, able to do so because of the size and quality of their squads. 7 City collected £42.5m from Chelsea for Cole Palmer in 2023, while the Blues let go of Mason Mount, Ian Maatsen, Conor Gallagher, Tammy Abraham, Fikayo Tomori and Lewis Hall for a combined total of around £230m. This summer alone, Reds teenager Ben Doak has joined Bournemouth in a deal worth up to £25m and Jarell Quansah left for Bayer Leverkusen in a move worth £35m including add-ons, and who can forget Raheem Sterling leaving for City in 2015 for around £50m. Arteta's squad now looks complete with an impressively impactful bench to match the starting XI, yet that was not always the case, hence why ineffective squad players have previously been held on to instead of sold. Arsenal currently have big names in their squad that could be sold for big profits. William Saliba is wanted by Real Madrid. Gabriel was approached by the Saudi giants. Teenage starlets Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly were monitored before signing new bumper deals, while Max Dowman's worth is only rising despite being just 15. In their bid to finally end their 21-year wait for a Prem title, Arteta and Arsenal are in no position to cash in on their most prized assets just yet. But the ability to consistently sell big and invest wisely cannot be sniffed at, especially when you consider the trophies Liverpool, City and Chelsea have hauled in as a result. 7 TRANSFER NEWS LIVE - KEEP UP WITH ALL THE LATEST FROM A BUSY SUMMER WINDOW

First I Love Clarkston market draws more than 2000 visitors

Hailed as a "huge success", the event saw crowds converging on the Goods Yard car park in front of Clarkston Halls to explore a variety of stalls. Even though the participating traders were experienced market professionals, the sheer demand exceeded all expectations. The atmosphere was complemented by glorious weather, with temperatures soaring to 29 degrees. After the success of this month's event, the I Love Clarkston Food Market and Boot Sale is set to become a regular event, taking place on the third Sunday of every month, from March to October, between 10am and 2pm, in the Goods Yard car park. The next market day is scheduled for September 21, with expectations of even more stalls, local produce and unique finds. Jenny Dunlop, BID manager for I Love Clarkston, said: "We're absolutely delighted with the response to our first market. "It was fantastic to see so many local residents not only supporting small food traders but also exploring the boot sale as a sustainable way to shop. "This ties in so well with Clarkston's many much-loved charity shops and shows that our community is really embracing both shopping locally and making environmentally conscious choices." Top 10 best-selling cars of 2024 in the world revealed as hybrid SUV roars into lead dethroning Tesla

The list shows the remarkable dominance of a particular brand, which boasts an impressive five models among the top 10 CARN'T BELIEVE IT Top 10 best-selling cars of 2024 in the world revealed as hybrid SUV roars into lead dethroning Tesla – see full list THE world's top 10 best-selling motors of 2024 have been revealed with a hybrid SUV taking top spot - dethroning Tesla in the process. Elon Musk's US-based manufacturer of stylish EVs has taken the industry by storm in recent years with both the Model Y, the leader in 2023, and the Model 3 becoming big sellers in both the UK and the wider world. But as reported by Autocar, it was a model from a more traditional car brand that claimed the coveted top gong; the Toyota RAV4. This renowned compact SUV, now available with a hybrid option, emerged as the best-selling car of 2024 - shipping the most units worldwide. Indeed, the top 10 list outlines Toyota's dominance last year, with the Japanese giants boasting five models on the list. EVs, like those built by Tesla and ever-growing Chinese maker BYD, continue to gain market share, but cars with internal combustion engines still dominate, contrary to some predictions. It's also worth noting that many models rely heavily on specific markets for their sales, such as the Toyota Camry in the US and the BYD Qin in China. 10. BYD Qin - 502,000 (+6%) 10 BYD Qin Credit: Reuters A huge hit in its native China, the Qin, which is classed as a compact saloon, is available as both a plug-in hybrid and as a full EV. Not seen one on the road? It's hardly surprising, as nearly all of its sales were made in China - with only a few exported overseas. The Qin's popularity is likely down to its affordability, making it an good option for many buyers, while it also benefits from BYD's growing reputation for reliability and innovation. 9. Tesla Model 3 - 560,000 (+10%) 10 Tesla Model 3 Credit: Getty The world famous electric saloon, loved for its style and class, rose up the order - going from 10th spot in 2023 to ninth overall in 2024. Watch Tesla test self-driving cars on London streets & Swindon's 'Magic Roundabout' Available with an electric powertrain only, the Model 3 is a big hit in the world's key markets; North America, Europe and China. The Model 3 also underwent an impressive facelift in 2023, complementing its already strong use of EV tech and affordability within the premium segment. 8. Toyota Camry - 593,000 (-8%) 10 Toyota Camry Credit: AP A reliable favourite in the US, the Camry - a mid-size saloon that comes with either an ICE or hybrid - also sells well in Asia and Australia. It's known as a beacon of both reliability and comfort, although its sales dropped by 8% last year - highlighting the dominance of SUVs and EVs. 7. Ford F-150 – 595,000 (-2%) 10 Ford F-150 Credit: Getty The world's most iconic pick-up continues to fly off dealership lots, driven by a loyal customer base who value its reliability and versatility. Its popularity was also helped in part by its variety of powertrains, including ICE options, hybrids and even electric - with the F-150 Lightning. It remains a staple in the US market, although it did suffer a sales decline of sorts (-2%), perhaps suggesting an increase in competition. 6. Toyota Hilux - 617,000 (-15%) 10 Toyota Hilux Credit: Supplied Generally smaller than the F-150, the Hilux, which can be bought with an ICE option only, is a global sensation with particularly strong sales in Africa, Australia and South America. It's a dependable workhorse, known for its durability and off-road capability, but perhaps it's starting to pay the price for its insistence on petrol power - judging by its 15% sales decline. 5. Toyota Corolla - 697,000 (-11%) 10 Toyota Corolla Credit: Toyota UK Widely recognized as the best-selling car model of all time, the Corolla continues to be shifted all over the world with strong sales in Asia and Europe particularly. Featuring both an ICE and hybrid powertrain, the Corolla remains a favourite due to its reliability, fuel efficiency and recently introduced hybrid options. However, as previously mentioned, its 11% sales drop likely reflects a shift away from traditional saloons and hatchbacks, toward SUVs. 4. Honda CR-V - 854,000 (+1%) 10 Honda CR-V Credit: newspressuk Honda's wildly popular compact SUV is its only entry on the list - but the brand will be buoyed by a small rise in sales numbers in 2024. A hot favourite in the US - which accounted for more than a half of total production in 2024 - it also sells well in Asia and Europe. Indeed, it's loved across the globe for its reliability, spacious interior and hybrid options, which makes it one of the most popular options for families. 3. Toyota Corolla Cross/Frontlander - 859,000 (+18%) 10 Toyota Corolla Cross Credit: Toyota Europe It's all about Toyota, isn't it? One of the brand's biggest sellers in recent times is the Corolla Cross, which is also known as the Frontlander, which enjoyed a mighty sales increase in 2024. The compact SUV blends practicality and affordability, making it a favourite among drivers in the US and Asia in particular. It also offers buyers an ICE, hybrid or plug-in hybrid engine - giving it a major boost in efficiency. Its comfort and space, as well as Toyota's well-renowned reliability, clearly makes it a strong contender in the hugely competitive small SUV market. 2. Tesla Model Y - 1,185,000 (-3%) 10 Tesla Model Y Credit: simon thompson The former chart-topper, the Tesla Model Y, now finds itself settling for second-place. Another global favourite that sells strongly in North America, Europe and China, the compact crossover SUV has been a revelation in the EV industry. Despite many seemingly being put off by Musk's antics over the last 12 months, not to mention growing competition from Chinese EV manufacturers, drivers are still drawn to the Model Y for its cutting-edge tech, impressive range and Tesla's Supercharger network. 1. Toyota RAV4/Wildlander - 1,187,000 (+11%) 10 Toyota RAV4 Credit: Getty The world's favourite compact SUV enjoyed a massive sales boost in 2024 - in no small part due to the success of its Chinese iteration, the Wildlander. Perhaps the strongest selling point for the RAV4 though is how consumers know what they're getting, with the long-time model beloved for its versatility, reliability and hybrid options. What's more, it's known for its strong resale value, with owners reporting fewer issues with the RAV4 compared to other SUVs. And any repairs needed are often minor and resolved quickly, according to What Car?. US-based car expert Scotty Kilmer recently heaped praise on the RAV4, highlighting it as one of his top recommendations for a reliable second-hand motor available for under £10,000.
