SEVIER COUNTY, Tenn. (WATE) — Whether you're planning a vacation in Sevier County this summer or looking for a family-friendly restaurant to visit for Mother's Day, six Sevier County restaurants have made Yelp's list of the Top 100 Family-Friendly Restaurants in 2025.
The list was released on Tuesday, with one Pigeon Forge restaurant making the top 10. When comparing restaurants, Yelp looked for spots that went beyond coloring books to offer more playful options for children, picnic style vibes where adults can relax while their kids run around safely, and places offering fresh, healthy options.
The Local Goat is a 'New American' restaurant with a scratch-made kitchen on the Parkway in Pigeon Forge. According to Yelp, the restaurant sources local and sustainable items for their menu, so 'you won't find high-fructose corn syrup, hormones, antibiotics, or GMOs.' The Local Goat also made Yelp's Top 100 Burger Spots in the U.S. list in 2023.
In addition to the kids menu that has several options that are picky-eater friendly, the restaurant offers a variety of burgers, pasta, seafood, steaks and more for more mature tastes. The restaurant also has several gluten free options for those with gluten sensitivities.
With Pigeon Forge being a busy area that sees quite a bit of tourist traffic, those looking to make reservations ahead of time can visit the Local Goat's website or call ahead. While the Pigeon Forge location made the list, there is also a second Local Goat restaurant in Ootlewah, directly off of Highway 75.
Farther down the Parkway, in Sevierville, Five Oaks Farm Kitchen serves up classic barbecue and American southern dishes with fresh produce, quality beef and local pork. For those ages 10 and under, the restaurant has two kids menus, one for breakfast and another for lunch and supper.
In addition to lunch and supper menus with a variety of options, Five Oaks Farm Kitchen also has a two-page gluten free menu, a desert menu, and menus for large groups. Those planning ahead of time can also join the waitlist.
For breakfast fanatics, Gatlinburg has a specialty breakfast option on the Parkway that is also family-friendly. Crockett's Breakfast Camp serves breakfast from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. every day.
From 'Hen Fruit' (eggs) to pancakes, French toast and biscuits, there are plenty of options for breakfast. Those with a sweet tooth may also be delighted to know that they offer giants cinnamon rolls and a fried cinnamon roll.
Tucked off the Parkway on Old Mill Avenue, the Old Mill Restaurant serves hearty Southern classics every day. From breakfast classics to southern style chicken and pot roast to burgers, catfish and steaks.
If you're looing for a place to take a stroll after the meal, the Old Mill Restaurant is also located near several other Old Mill themed shops, including the Old Mill Square and Old Forge Plaza shopping malls and Pigeon River Pottery, which is just a few doors down from the Old Mill Pottery House Cafe & Grill.

In addition to a feast of home-cooked fried chicken, barbecue, mashed potatoes, homemade bread and more, the Hatfield & McCoy Dinner Feud features singing, dancing, students and comedy.
While the meal is a ticketed event, children 2 years old and younger are free if they sit in a parent's lap and eat from their plate. Ahead of their scheduled showtime, guests are encouraged to arrive an hour in advance to pick up their tickets and enjoy the pre-show entertainment.
The Blue Moose has several East Tennessee locations, but the one in Pigeon Forge made Yelp's list of the top family-friendly restaurants. The locally-owned restaurant was also voted Travelers' Choice's #1 Burger and Wings location in 2022. The family-friendly sports bar serves up a variety of jumbo wings, burgers, sandwiches, and salads.
For those who can't get enough of Blue Moose Burgers & Wings, a new location has been announced for Gatlinburg. The restaurant's website says the location is coming to Gatlinburg on May 12, 2025.
One other Tennessee restaurant also made the list: Nectar Urban Cantina in Nashville. The shop serves up Mexican-inspired cuisine and has outdoor seating, along with a backyard space where they host hangouts including specific kid's nights.

‘I don't know why the president has this problem': Trump had a history of disparaging Haiti and Haitians before the travel ban

So when Haiti was included late Wednesday in a list of countries on which Trump was imposing a near-total travel ban, some saw a culmination of a long campaign against the population. Advertisement 'Donald Trump has been very consistent in his anti-Black racism, both domestically and globally, and when it comes to the country of Haiti, the people of Haiti, he has a long track record of vile, offensive, harmful rhetoric and policies,' said Boston Representative Ayanna Pressley, who co-chairs the congressional Haiti Caucus. 'It is just purely evil.' Get Starting Point A guide through the most important stories of the morning, delivered Monday through Friday. Enter Email Sign Up Florida Democratic Representative Maxwell Frost, who is of Haitian descent, echoed Pressley's comment that the travel ban is 'rooted in bigotry.' 'It does nothing to make our communities safer, but it does vilify immigrants,' Frost said in a statement. 'It will devastate our immigrant families across this country.' In response to Pressley's accusations, the White House called her assertions 'lazy, unfounded and just straight-up false.' Advertisement 'While President Trump is fulfilling his promise to unite the country and keep the American people safe, Pressley is desperate to divide us and smearing our heroic law enforcement officials in the process,' White House spokesperson Abigail Jackson said in a statement, pointing to the rationale listed in the ban. Haiti is one of 12 countries facing a near-total ban on travel to the United States under Trump's new order, which cites an inability to vet immigrants for national security risks and a high rate of people overstaying their visas as justification for the measure. There are limited exceptions, including current visa-holders, permanent residents, dual nationals, athletic teams, and certain immediate family members of US residents. Other countries affected include Afghanistan, Iran, Libya, Somalia, and Yemen. The move follows several other Trump administration actions that have had an impact on the Haitian community in the United States, including an early end to Temporary Protected Status protections for an estimated through the appeals process. Trump made similar moves in his first administration though most were ultimately blocked by the courts. The United States first granted Haitian migrants protection from deportation after the 2010 earthquake that devastated the country. Since then, a string of natural disasters and political conflicts have worsened conditions. Today, gang violence, crime, and instability are rampant on the island. Advertisement Amid the worsening situation, many Haitians sought refuge in the United States or came to join family here, either through the CHNV program, legal avenues, or without permission. Massachusetts has the third-largest population of Haitians in the US, including an estimated 15,000 who held TPS, But the influx of migration from Haiti has also spurred backlash, Illinois Senator Dick Durbin, who was the only Democrat in the 2018 meeting with Trump's now-infamous comments, said he doesn't understand why Haiti seems to irk the president as it does. 'His hatred over Haiti is just impossible to explain,' Durbin said. 'I've been there many times. And this is one of the poorest nations on Earth, the poorest in our hemisphere, these people are suffering and need help, and they're wonderful people. I don't know why the president has this problem.' But Republicans defended Trump's actions and denied there was any animus behind it. Representative Mario Diaz-Balart, a Republican who has backed pro-immigration policies in the past, was also in that 2018 meeting. And while Diaz-Balart declined to talk about what was said, he does not believe Trump has an issue with Haitians. Advertisement 'No, I don't,' he said. 'I really don't. I really, really don't.' His South Florida district is home to a large Haitian population and others affected by the CHNV and TPS reversals, including Cubans but he defended the travel ban. 'There are countries obviously that can't guarantee a process where we know that people are [vetted] to keep the country secure,' Diaz-Balart said. 'I don't think it's unreasonable.' Former Florida Republican Representative Carlos Curbelo, a moderate who was part of the immigration negotiations in 2018 that preceded the meeting, said Trump seems to prefer 'white-collar' immigrants or those whom Trump perceives to be have been recruited or have sufficient resources to come here. 'I don't think he understands or cares that those types of comments and campaigns unfairly mischaracterize hundreds of thousands of people at a time, and I don't think he understands that just because you're a refugee or an exile, that doesn't mean that you aren't capable of making major contributions to this country,' Curbelo said. Noting the Cuban exile community where he (and Diaz-Balart) hail from, Curbelo continued: 'It's people who had to leave their country, that was not their first choice, that was their only choice, and that doesn't preclude people from becoming exceptional Americans who do wonderful things.' Pressley, though, is convinced Trump's approach to Haitians is a concerted effort. She compared the trauma inflicted on the migrant community to the terror campaign of the white supremacist Ku Klux Klan, saying it gets harder to fight back and project optimism when the actions layer on top of each other. 'It is terrorizing. It is terrifying. It is traumatic,' Pressley said. 'And it's just so intentional. ... Singling out Haitians, I mean, he's moved in a way that is obsessive and consistently, pointedly harmful.' Advertisement Tal Kopan can be reached at

Serengeti Springs hosts international students this summer

HATTIESBURG, Miss. (WHLT) – Two dozen international students will spend their summer working at Serengeti Springs in Hattiesburg. More than 20 students from Thailand, Mexico, Jamaica and Colombia are participating in the park's J1 International Student Program. They will work as lifeguards, in ticketing and in food and retail services. The Hattiesburg Convention Commission has planned a full itinerary, including trips to New Orleans and the Mississippi Gulf Coast. The program offers students a chance to experience the American culture while gaining valuable work experience. USM rises in rankings for Best Education Schools in US 'We want to give them a great work experience and definitely the training, the hospitality, learning, things from the retail sector, from the food and beverage sector, from the aquatics world. And we hope that our staff, as well, get to embrace them, learn some things from them, and then they get some awesome things from us,' said Demetric Kelly, director of Guest Services and Retail with the Hattiesburg Convention Commission. 'This program has really helped me to open my mind and gave me understanding of different perspectives,' said Shenane Goodwin, a student from Jamaica. The students also received new wheels to explore the Hub City thanks to Moore's Bicycle Shop, which helped collect donated bikes from the community. Trump brings the BOOM! New order opens skies across US to supersonic flights

President Donald Trump has ordered the Federal Aviation Administration to scrap a longstanding ban on supersonic air travel across the U.S. and replace it with a to-be-determined set of regulations that will allow faster-than-sound travel so long as the sonic booms it creates do not breach certain noise limitations. In an executive order signed on Friday, Trump directed the FAA administrator to begin the process of repealing a section of the Code of Federal Regulations that prohibits anyone in the United States from flying a civilian aircraft 'at a true flight Mach number greater than 1.' That regulation was imposed in April 1973, at a time when the British and French governments were jointly developing Concorde, a supersonic airliner that had a cruising speed in excess of Mach 2, or twice the speed of sound. Because aircraft that break the sound barrier create shockwaves that produce loud sounds, known as sonic booms, the U.S. government banned supersonic flight over the U.S. out of concern over disruptive noise from supersonic jets criss-crossing the country. As a result, Concorde was limited to subsonic speeds when arriving or leaving American airports, only crossing the sound barrier during transit over the Atlantic Ocean on routes between New York's JFK airport and London. Michael Kratsios, the director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, told reporters that Trump's order 'seeks to revolutionize supersonic aviation in the United States' by allowing for modern aircraft to fly faster than sound over the continental U.S. 'The US used to be the global leader in this technology, but stifling regulations have grounded progress for generations. The reality is that Americans should be able to fly from New York to LA in under four hours,' he said. Kratsios added that 'advances in aerospace engineering, material science and noise reduction' by new startups working on faster-than-sound passenger aircraft can make supersonic travel 'safe, sustainable and commercially viable' and noted that the longstanding American ban on such flights had ' grounded supersonic passenger flight and weakened our global competitiveness in aviation.' 'Today's order fixes that,' he said. Trump's order comes just weeks after a pair of Republicans in Congress, Rep. Troy Nehls of Texas and Senator Ted Budd of North Carolina, introduced legislation to direct the FAA to repeal and replace the current supersonic flight ban within a year. That legislation will no longer be necessary, as the Trump executive order directs the FAA to withdraw the ban within 180 days and launch a notice-and-comment period for replacement regulations that would be based on a noise standard rather than a strict speed limit. According to a senior administration official, the function of the new regulations would be 'to replace the effective speed standard with instead an interim noise standard, and then to have a longer term process to publish a Notice of Proposed Rule Making to result in a final rule.' That process would be 'coordinated through the White House [and] through the National Science and Technology Council' and would be based on research and development that has been going on at NASA, the Department of Defense, and 'elsewhere within the federal government,' the official said. Trump's effort to enable supersonic flight across the U.S. follows the success of the first flight of a civilian supersonic aircraft since Concorde 216 (registered as G-BOAF) made its' final flight to Bristol Filton Airport in 2003. In January, Boom Supersonic's XB-1 aircraft reached a speed of Mach 1.122 during a 34-minute flight over California's Mojave Desert. The test flight, just eight days into Trump's second term, produced no audible sonic boom — or at least not one that was heard from the ground during the flight. The company says its' proposed Overture passenger jet will cut a trip from Los Angeles to Washington to three hours and 15 minutes, more than an hour less than the current duration of such a flight, while producing no sonic booms that are audible from the ground. It attributes this to atmospheric effects that cause the sound to reflect off layers in the atmosphere and travel upward, rather than downward. It also claims to be able to cut flights over water by even more time by reaching even higher speeds.
