'Count The Zeros!': Noida Man Finds Nearly Rs 100 Duodecillion In Bank Account
A 20-year-old man in Uttar Pradesh's Greater Noida found himself at the centre of an astonishing banking mystery after receiving a message showing an astronomical sum deposited into his deceased mother's bank account. The amount was so large that it left not just him, but even seasoned bank officials speechless.
Deepak, a resident of Unchi Dankor village in Greater Noida, had lost his mother Gayatri Devi two months ago. On August 3, while checking her Kotak Mahindra Bank account, he was stunned to find a deposit reading Rs 10,01,35,60,00,00,00,00,00,01,00,23,56,00,00,00,00,299, which translates to over Rs 1.13 lakh crore.
The bank balance, riddled with so many zeros that it was practically uncountable at first glance, dwarfs the net worth of even the richest celebrities in the country. For perspective, the total sum appeared to be more than 15,000 times the reported wealth of Bollywood icon Shah Rukh Khan, whose estimated net worth stands at Rs 7,438 crore.
Shocked, Deepak immediately forwarded the bank alert to friends with a message, 'Count the zeros!" His bizarre fortune quickly became a talking point on WhatsApp groups and social media.
When Deepak reached the local Kotak Mahindra Bank branch the next morning, officials were equally baffled. After a quick internal enquiry, the bank froze the account citing 'irregularities" and referred the matter to the Income Tax Department for further investigation.
While the exact source of the funds is still unclear, bank officials suspect it could be a massive technical error or an untraceable anonymous transaction.
As word spread like wildfire, Deepak's phone didn't stop ringing. Media channels, relatives, neighbours, and curious locals all reached out, hoping to get a statement or a peek into this financial anomaly. Unable to handle the flood of calls and attention, Deepak reportedly switched off his phone.
Meanwhile, the internet did what it does best, turned the moment into meme material. Social media was soon flooded with jokes and reactions. 'Shah Rukh Khan's net worth now looks like pocket money," one user quipped, while another declared, 'Move over Ambani, Deepak from Greater Noida is here!"
Authorities have yet to clarify the origin of the transaction.

Centre releases Rs 3,000 crore for CMRL Phase 2 in 2025-26
CHENNAI: The union government has released Rs 3,000 crore so far this financial year towards Chennai Metro Rail's Phase 2 project, according to a Right to Information (RTI) response accessed by TNIE. The funds, disbursed by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs as of July 28, form part of a total outlay of Rs 8,445.8 crore earmarked for the project in 2025-26 — the single-largest allocation for any metro project across the country this year. The release includes the full equity contribution of Rs 1,841.2 crore, Rs 158.8 crore in subordinate debt, and Rs 1,000 crore in pass-through assistance (PTA) from external agencies, according to the ministry's reply to RTI petitioner Dayanand Krishnan. A senior official with Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) said the centre had already released approximately Rs 5,400 crore before March 2025, following the formal approval of Phase 2 as a central sector scheme in October 2024. 'The Rs 3,000 crore includes funds received during April and May. In total, Tamil Nadu has received around Rs 8,400 crore so far. It's not disbursed in tranches — funds are released as and when needed,' the official said. Spanning 118.9 km across three corridors, Phase 2 is one of India's largest ongoing urban mobility investments. Its reclassification as a central sector scheme last year has unlocked direct funding from the union government, after years of procedural delays. The steady flow of funds is expected to ease financial pressure on the Tamil Nadu government, which has been seeking continued central support for its expanding mass transit infrastructure. The large allocation also signals the strategic and political significance of the project, with Chennai emerging as a key node in India's urban transport agenda. RTI activist Krishnan, who has closely tracked metro funding in Tamil Nadu, urged the union government to expedite approvals and funding for three pending proposals from the state: A new corridor linking Chennai Airport to Kilambakkam, and greenfield metro projects in Madurai and Coimbatore. Concrete moves Release includes equity of Rs 1,841 cr, Rs 158 cr subordinate debt, Rs 1K c assistance from external agencies In total, Tamil Nadu has received around Rs 8,400 crore so far, says official 118.9 km across 3 corridors; Phase 2 is one of India's largest urban mobility projects

Behind bars, convicts in Bengaluru Central Prison use WhatsApp to extort undertrial inmates
BENGALURU: There have been several incidents of inmates being caught using mobile phones in Bengaluru Central Prison. Now, convicted inmates are running extortion rackets from behind bars, raising serious questions about the effectiveness of restrictions on mobile phone usage inside the prison. A source told TNIE that convicts, especially rowdy-sheeters, are targeting undertrial inmates who are about to secure bail. They collect the phone numbers of these inmates and, once they are out on bail, the convicts call them via WhatsApp from prison to extort money by issuing death threats and harassing them. The convicts allegedly instruct them to transfer money through UPI to multiple bank accounts belonging to their relatives. The relatives then deliver the cash to the prison to help maintain the convicts' lavish lifestyle behind bars. The extortion racket came to light after Arul Kumar (36), who is out on bail in a drug case, filed a complaint with the CCB. He accused convicts Harshith and Gangaraju—serving sentences in a rape case—and another individual, Likith, of receiving extorted money via UPI transactions on their behalf to multiple accounts. Others named in the FIR include Nelson Sawan alias Bablu, Viji alias Guru, Chetan, and Shankar, who were allegedly running the racket. The FIR further stated that Chetan, an under trial prisoner in a murder case, was allegedly extorting money through his relative Lokesh Rao. Another rowdy-sheeter, Shekhar, was also found to have received money. A CCB officer said the mobile numbers mentioned in the FIR will be verified, and their transaction history will be traced. The amount is between Rs 5,000-Rs 15,000 and that a letter has been sent to the banks seeking account details.

Bike DCM DK Shivakumar rode has Rs 18.5K in traffic penalties
BENGALURU: A day after Deputy Chief Minister and Bengaluru Development Minister DK Shivakumar was seen riding a two-wheeler on Hebbal flyover during his inspection, the BJP and JDS trolled Shivakumar and said the two-wheeler has many traffic violation cases registered against it. JDS, on its official X handle, said a sum of Rs 18,500 has to be paid as penalty for various traffic violations. The video of Shivakumar riding the two-wheeler on Hebbal flyover went viral on Tuesday. The JDS, on its social media platforms, tagged Hebbal Traffic Police and urged it to take action. Following this, police summoned the owner who paid Rs 1,000 and assured police that he would pay the remaining later. The regional party, stating that the vehicle has more than 34 traffic violation cases against it, urged Shivakumar to stop photo shoots and reels for publicity, and fulfil his responsibilities as a minister. The BJP questioned why there is a separate law for the Deputy CM. 'Traffic police should charge additional Rs 500 from Shivakumar for wearing a half-helmet,' the party said.
