Baton Rouge student left on bus found safe, driver dismissed
BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — The East Baton Rouge Parish School System confirmed that a Delmont Elementary student was left on a school bus on Monday, May 12.
The school system said the child was found safe and returned to their family.
'The driver involved is no longer employed by the East Baton Rouge Parish School System,' officials said.
The school board says state law requires all bus drivers to check their buses after each route. This ensures that no students are left behind.
District leadership and the Office of Human Resources addressed this incident.
'As a precaution, all drivers are being reminded of this critical safety protocol. The safety and well-being of our students remain our highest priority, and we are taking steps to prevent this from happening again,' EBRPSS said.

Baton Rouge woman charged after kids found unattended outside apartment multiple times, officials say
BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — The Baton Rouge Police Department recently looked into whether children were left unattended outside of an apartment. The ensuing investigation led to a Baton Rouge woman being taken into custody. Ariana Dedeaux, 20, was charged with child desertion. BRPD responded to an apartment in the 2200 block of College Drive and were told by someone that two children kept exiting the apartment. The children were a 1-year-old and a two-year-old, BRPD said. They were 'found three weeks ago, unattended on the balcony near the home and playing on the outside stairwells,' according to the affidavit. Police were also told that the children were seen in the parking lot without any supervision on Monday, June 2. Residents located the children and took them to the office until Dedeaux was contacted, BRPD said. On Tuesday, June 3, the two-year-old was found again in the parking lot with no one around to watch him. He was taken to the office again by a resident. BRPD went to the children's apartment and found the door open. Dedeaux and someone else were seen asleep at that time, according to the affidavit. She was subsequently arrested and booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison. Investigation underway after baking soda spills on I-110 South Friday afternoon
BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — An investigation is underway after the Baton Rouge Fire Department (BRFD) and its Hazardous Materials unit responded to reports of baking soda being dumped on the interstate Friday, June 6. The powder was found scattered across multiple southbound lanes of I-110, just south of Airline Highway near the Weller Avenue exit. The substance was also found on several nearby surface streets. The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) and the Baton Rouge Police Department (BRPD) helped shut down impacted lanes of travel. The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality (LADEQ) was notified and responded to the scene. Louisiana State Police were also notified. BRFD's Hazardous Materials team conducted field testing of the substance, and after multiple presumptive tests, it was identified as sodium bicarbonate, or baking soda. There is no threat to public safety, officials confirmed. The scene has been turned over to LADEQ, and BRFD units will be clearing shortly. The interstate is expected to remain closed while cleanup efforts are underway. Appropriate agencies will be conducting an investigation to determine how the material was released and to identify the responsible party.
