How global events will affect Louisiana's tourism industry

Yahoo13-05-2025
SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS)—Louisiana is entering a new era of tourism that will reach every bayou and small town in the state.
With global events like the FIFA World Cup and the 2026 Olympics on the horizon, leaders are now seizing the moment to showcase everything our great state has to offer.
Walt Leger, President and CEO of New Orleans & Company, stopped by our morning shows to discuss how tourism is evolving and how major events are contributing.

Leger says events like Super Bowl LIX attract thousands of people to Louisiana.
'We are competing with states and cities all over the country that have massive populations. What we know is that when people travel, they want to have variety of experiences and so we certainly want to utilize the brand that is New Orleans, to be able to attract people but we also want them to get out and experience more things,' says Leger.
Although the FIFA World Cup does not have any matches in Louisiana, matches in surrounding areas like Houston and Dallas mean spectators will be traveling through our state, and this is an opportunity for Louisiana to showcase its food, culture, and hospitality.
Leger says driving tourism to Louisiana means adding dollars to our local economy.
'There's about 50,000 visitors to Louisiana, a little more than that, every year. I tell people it's everyone's favorite tax dollar. Somebody else's, from somewhere else, that they leave behind here for the benefit of our community. When we work to attract people to our city and to our state, it reduces the tax burden on all of us and pays for infrastructure, education, so many of the things we need in our community,' he explains.
New Orleans & Company says that by working closely with regional and national tourism groups, it is making sure that Louisiana remains top of mind for travelers worldwide, showcasing not just the Crescent City but the cultural, historic, and natural gems found throughout the state.

Saints trade DT Khalen Saunders to the Jaguars for C Luke Fortner

The Saints are trading veteran defensive tackle Khalen Saunders to the Jaguars, Tom Pelissero of NFL Media reports. New Orleans will get center Luke Fortner in return. Saunders, 29, started for the Saints in Sunday's preseason game against the Jaguars but had no stats. The team listed him as the backup to Davon Godchaux, who the Saints acquired in an offseason trade with the Patriots. He totaled 43 tackles, three tackles for loss, two sacks, an interception and three pass breakups in 13 games last season. Saunders spent the past two seasons in New Orleans after four seasons in Kansas City. He won two Super Bowl rings with the Chiefs. He is entering the final year of his contract due to make $1.3 million in base salary. Fortner, 27, has appeared in all 51 possible games since the Jaguars made him a third-round pick in 2022. He started every game his first two seasons but none last season. He is playing on a one-year contract worth $1.150 million after taking a pay cut this offseason. The Saints needed depth at center after losing Will Clapp to a season-ending foot injury. The trade for Fortner will allow Torricelli Simpkins, who started at center Sunday, to move back to guard.

Texas Pacific Land Corporation (NYSE:TPL) is one of the Oversold Fundamentally Strong Stocks to Buy Now. On August 6, the company released its financial and operating results for Q2 2025, highlighting its financial resilience amid commodity price fluctuations, with quarterly revenue records witnessed in SLEM and produced water royalties. Texas Pacific Land Corporation (NYSE:TPL)'s significant footprint throughout royalties, surface, and water positions it to extract sources of value from the Permian's exceptional resource. A pipeline running through a rural landscape, a reminder of the companies oil and gas Royalty Interest. Texas Pacific Land Corporation (NYSE:TPL)'s total revenues for the 6 months ended June 30, 2025 came in at $383.5 million versus $346.5 million for the 6 months to June 30, 2024. The rise in total revenues was mainly because of a $24.3 million rise in oil and gas royalty revenue, as well as $17.2 million increase in easements and other surface-related income. As of June 30, 2025, Texas Pacific Land Corporation (NYSE:TPL)'s royalty acreage had an estimated 6.0 net well permits, 11.1 net drilled but uncompleted wells, and 5.1 net completed but not producing wells. In particular, record produced water royalty revenue highlights Texas Pacific Land Corporation (NYSE:TPL)'s unique position to provide essential solutions and capture high-quality cash flows. Wedgewood Partners, an investment management company, released its Q4 2024 investor letter. Here is what the fund said: 'Texas Pacific Land Corporation (NYSE:TPL) was a top contributor to performance during both the quarter and the year. Texas Pacific Land continues to be an extraordinarily unique and profitable business. The Company owns over 800,000 surface acres of land in the Texas Permian Basin. The vast majority of this land was acquired in the year 1888 and more recently (i.e. the last 15 years) this land became highly productive oil and gas royalty acreage thanks to modern drilling and completion techniques and technologies. Despite all of these deserved accolades, we liquidated our positions after the stock rallied quite sharply upon being consecutively added to two major stock indexes over the past seven months. The earnings power of the Company has not substantially changed over the past seven months (for better or worse). However, passive indexes and the traders and managers that closely follow and benchmark against those indexes effectively tripled their appraisal of the Company's corporate value, while that value never changed. We will continue to monitor Texas Paci7ic Land from the sidelines and would hope to invest in them again, perhaps after the market's 'animal spirits' subside.' Kellen Moore mum on timeline for naming Saints starting QB: 'We'll see'

New Orleans Saints coach Kellen Moore doesn't yet appear ready to pick the winner of the team's quarterback competition. Moore was asked following New Orleans' 17-all tie with the Jacksonville Jaguars whether he planned to announce the team's Week 1 starter ahead of preseason Week 3. His response? "We'll see," Moore replied. "Obviously, I got first sight here, but film will be an important aspect of this thing, and we'll just see how everything progresses leading into this week." The Saints currently have three quarterbacks on their roster: Spencer Rattler, Tyler Shough and Jake Haener. Moore has spoken well of all three throughout the offseason and praised them after Sunday's game. "All these QBs aren't making this easy," Moore said of New Orleans' quarterback battle. "They're all doing a really good job and they're all having their days and they're taking advantage of their opportunities. So, you know, it's an evaluation and we'll take it where it needs to go." 2025 NFL RECORD PROJECTIONS: Who wins Super Bowl 60? (Hint: not the Eagles) That said, the Saints appear to be choosing between Rattler and Shough two for the starting job. Haener was the third quarterback off the bench in the team's preseason opener before failing to play against the Jaguars. Shough outperformed Rattler in preseason Week 1, completing 15 of 22 passes for 165 yards, one touchdown and one interception in New Orleans' 27-13 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers. The tables turned against the Jaguars, when Rattler completed 18 of 24 passes for 199 yards, one touchdown and one interception while throwing the game-tying touchdown to Dante Pettis with 20 seconds left in regulation. As such, Moore has not yet made up his mind about who will start in Week 1. Still, he told reporters he doesn't necessarily view that as a bad thing. "Sooner is always better, but these guys are competing and they're giving us everything that we can ask," Moore said of the Saints' quarterback competition. "So, we'll continue to evaluate."
