Man jailed after police officer is shoved onto busy road during rush hour

Barry White had knocked out another man's tooth after confronting him outside a homeless unit in Motherwell.
A man has been jailed for 16 months after a police officer was shoved on to a busy road during rush hour.
Fortunately, the officer avoided being hit by traffic and sustained only a minor knee injury.

White, 36, of Merryton Tower, Motherwell, admitted assaulting a man in Airth Court and a male police officer in nearby Muir Street on September 21, 2023.
Hamilton Sheriff Court heard the incidents happened around 5pm on a Thursday.
The victim had left a flat in Airth Court and was walking towards a taxi when White asked him for a draw on his cigarette.
Sinead Corrigan, prosecuting, said: "The witness had already finished his cigarette. He got in the taxi and closed the door.
"The accused opened the door and punched the victim on the side of the face.

"This caused a tooth to come out. He also had a cut and swollen lip.
"The police were contacted and, while taking statements in Muir Street, they saw White walk past.
"The officer tried to speak to him but he made off. A foot chase ensued and the officer managed to take hold of the accused's arm.

"The accused then pushed the officer on to the busy road where there was oncoming traffic.
"He tried to make off again but was restrained by the officer's colleague."
The PC sustained a cut to his knee when he fell.
