If "The Phoenician Scheme" star Michael Cera had made a different choice, today he would be one of the stars considered part of the "Harry Potter" pantheon.
Cera was on "The Louis Theroux Podcast," where he revealed he was in talks to become part of the "Fantastic Beasts" spinoff films, but he bowed out because he was worried about becoming too famous.

"I don't even know if I was offered, I think I just declined to engage with it because I think it would be like probably six years commitment or something," Cera said.
"But also, I did sort of make a conscientious choice to limit my exposure a little bit, or just try and be a little more in control of it. And I felt like doing, especially little kids' movies, I had a big fear of doing things that I would get too famous."

It's up for debate whether or not Cera ultimately had all that much to worry about. While the original plan was for five "Fantastic Beasts" films to be released, the box office saw diminishing returns with each additional entry.
In 2022, "Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore" suffered an underwhelming performance at the box office, and while the film series has never officially been canceled, there's no word of a fourth film in the works.
Regardless, Cera says he's shaken off the feeling that made him pass on "Fantastic Beasts".
"I think I've outgrown that particular feeling, but I think that's what that was at that time," Cera said. "But if a franchise came along now and seemed interesting, I don't think on the grounds of it being a franchise I would storm out of the office or anything."
Asked about a possible role in the MCU, Cera joked, "A superhero who is a big fan of dairy, I could play."
As far as the upcoming "Harry Potter" series set to debut on HBO Max, Cera is probably too late with most of the roles being filled. One of the only major roles left is that of the villain Voldemort, with some rumors pointing toward Cillian Murphy as a favorite.

Barack Obama's Tradition From First Campaign He Still Maintains Today

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Former President Barack Obama still maintains a tradition from his first presidential campaign, according to his wife, Michelle Obama. During Wednesday's new episode of her podcast, IMO with Michelle Obama and Craig Robinson—which she co-hosts with her older brother, Craig Robinson—the former first lady shared details about her husband's "lucky charms." Newsweek reached out to Barack Obama's representative for comment on Friday via email outside regular working hours. EMMANUEL DUNAND/AFP via Getty Images Why It Matters Barack Obama served as the 44th president of the United States for two terms from 2009 until 2017. He and Michelle Obama got married in 1992, and they share two daughters: 27-year-old Malia Obama and 24-year-old Sasha Obama. Earlier this year, the couple endured divorce rumors after Michelle Obama chose to not attend former President Jimmy Carter's state funeral and President Donald Trump's inauguration. Meghan McCain also said on her Citizen McCain podcast that she heard the pair were splitting up "by reputable people." Both Barack and Michelle Obama have dismissed the speculation. What To Know On the most recent episode of IMO, Michelle Obama and Robinson spoke with South Carolina Gamecocks head coach and former player Dawn Staley. At one point during the discussion, the conversation turned to the meaning behind Staley's signature necklaces and bracelets. The Gamecocks won the national championship in 2022 and shortly afterward, she met a young girl with pediatric cancer who made the two necklaces for her. "I wore it ever since. Because of strength," Staley explained. "We were sitting together, and she has cancer—you would never know, like you would never know the strength that she set with that cancer." MoreAs for her bracelets, she said they're often gifted to her with words like "grit" and "uncommon favor," seemingly referring to her new book Uncommon Favor: Basketball, North Philly, My Mother and the Life Lessons I Learned from All Three. "I wear it until it pops," Staley said. Michelle Obama shared that Barack Obama was often gifted things, too. "Over the course of his first campaign, people would come and give him their lucky charms—it could be a rabbit's foot, a little Buddha, whatever it was—but so many people were praying for him and would give something precious to him, and he kept all those things." "He has a drawer full of them," the Becoming author added, noting: "And even to this day now, he takes a few of them every day and puts them in his pocket, just in the same way. It's perspective and it's a blessing." What People Are Saying In the comments underneath the podcast on YouTube, fans praised Staley's interview. @epochchange6803 wrote: "Thank you Dawn Staley for doing this interview. You are a bright light for SC [South Carolina] and the Nation! Thank you Michelle and Craig for a great podcast!" @loxsochic said: "Dawn Staley = G.O.A.T. status. Historian Won't Back Down at Prince Harry Legal Threat But Makes Key Change

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Stories about Prince Harry getting into a fist fight with Prince Andrew have not been removed from a biography despite Harry saying it never happened, the author told Newsweek. Historian Andrew Lownie's new book Entitled charts the rise and fall of Andrew and his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson with eye popping details about Jeffrey Epstein, mistreatment of staff and more. Yet it was a few passages about Prince Harry that wound up giving publisher William Collins, an imprint of Harper Collins, a legal headache after the book suggested Harry gave Andrew a bloody nose in a fist fight in 2013. The book also suggested Andrew said Meghan Markle was an "opportunist" and told Harry marrying her was a mistake. Meghan Markle sits with Prince Harry and Prince Andrew during the Commonwealth Service at Westminster Abbey, in London on March 11, 2019. Kirsty Wigglesworth -Why It Matters Harry strongly denied the account and, as revealed by Newsweek, sent a legal letter to the Daily Mail, which serialized the book, as well as the publisher. What To Know Lownie told an upcoming episode of Newsweek's The Royal Report podcast: "Harry wasn't in my book at all. And I think when the book came in, the publisher said, maybe just out of interest, what was the relationship between Andrew and Harry? "So I went to my source and they gave me that little paragraph talking about the two altercations in 2013 and then over Megan in 2017. And I put it in and I didn't think any of us thought that it was anything but a sort of passing moment. "I mean, I don't remember the lawyers even raising it but clearly he took umbrage at the suggestion that he had defended his wife's honor and instead of just asking for a correction or anything, sent off legal letters to Harper Collins, my publishers. "I had to double down with my source and make sure it was accurate, which we believe it is. Collins have responded in a responsible way, they've added a line actually, and I recorded the line for the audiobook a couple of days ago, just saying that Harry denies these allegations. And I I hope that will be the end of it. "I mean, I don't think it's defamatory. I think it actually presents him in quite a positive light and certainly there was no desire to cause offense. It was just a sort of reflection." What Prince Harry's Camp Said After the book was serialized in the Daily Mail earlier in August, Harry's team told Newsweek: "Such are the gross inaccuracies, damaging and defamatory remarks made in the Daily Mail's story, I can confirm a legal letter from Prince Harry's counsel has been sent to the Mail." An earlier statement, also sent to Newsweek, read: "I can confirm Prince Harry and Prince Andrew have never had a physical fight, nor did Prince Andrew ever make the comments he is alleged to have made about the Duchess of Sussex to Prince Harry." What Happens Next The book was released on Thursday and time will tell whether Prince Harry does file a lawsuit. Jack Royston is chief royal correspondent for Newsweek, based in London. On the August 15th episode of Friday Night SmackDown, the "Underdog from the Underground" made a surprise appearance to announce that he has officially moved from Raw to the blue brand. The show, which took place at the TD Garden in Boston, opened with Zayn confronting the new leader of The Bloodline, United States Champion Solo Sikoa. Zayn's arrival has completely shaken up the landscape of SmackDown. A New WWE Challenger for The Bloodline The show opened with Solo Sikoa and his faction in the ring. After Sikoa mocked him for being on the wrong brand, Zayn made his shocking announcement. He revealed that he is now the newest member of the SmackDown roster. SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis then appeared to confirm the move and booked a massive six-man tag team match for the main event. From One War to Another Sami Zayn's move to SmackDown is a much-needed "fresh start" for the superstar. Throughout his decorated tenure in WWE, he has won the NXT Championship, the Intercontinental Championship (multiple times), and the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship. The United States title is the one major championship that has eluded him. A victory over Solo Sikoa would make Sami Zayn a Grand Slam Champion, one of the highest honors a superstar can achieve in WWE. His quest for that final, elusive title is now the central motivation of his new journey on SmackDown. By confronting Sikoa, he is also reigniting one of the most celebrated rivalries in modern WWE history. Zayn, as the former "Honorary Uce," was the man who first exposed the cracks in the original Bloodline, leading to its eventual downfall. More WWE News: For more on WWE, head to Newsweek Sports.
