PMC to roll out block level mapping and property numbering system
2
Prayagraj: In a major move aimed at streamlining property identification and property tax collection, the Prayagraj Municipal Corporation is set to roll out a block-level mapping and numbering system across city neighbourhoods.
This initiative will reduce the hassle of locating individual houses and help improve the efficiency of municipal services such as tax collection and property surveys.
Under the proposed plan, each locality will be divided into smaller blocks, with approximately 100 houses in each block. Depending on the population and area size, each ward is expected to have between five to seven such blocks. Since there are 100 wards in the city, the total number of blocks could range from 3,000 to 4,000 citywide.
The Municipal Corporation's chief tax assessment officer, PK Mishra, stated that a GIS (Geographic Information System) survey firm was already notified about new survey requirement through official correspondence sent four days ago. The block-wise survey is likely to begin within next 20 to 25 days.
Each house within these newly created blocks will be assigned a unique identification number by the corporation.
The block numbers will incorporate the first letter or syllable of the locality's name for easy identification. For instance, if the block is in the Teliyarganj area, the houses will bear addresses like 'T-Block A', making location tracking straightforward even if ward boundaries change during municipal elections.
The plan takes into account the fact that while ward boundaries may be redrawn, locality boundaries generally remain constant.
Although a similar initiative was launched a few years ago, it was eventually discontinued. However, some progress was made, and house numbering began in localities such as Mumfordganj. So far, the Municipal Corporation has issued unique numbers to over 12,000 properties.
In a related development, property records (locally known as khasra) for recently extended municipal areas will be prepared over the next six months.
These records will be officially entered into municipal archives and are expected to be uploaded online by 2026. According to the latest GIS survey, approximately 1.78 lakh building properties have been identified in Prayagraj. However, property tax is currently being collected from only around 50,000 of these properties.
To further enhance civic infrastructure, the PMC is also working on upgrading smart city facilities. According to additional municipal commissioner Deependra Yadav, advanced technologies will be adopted for traffic management, water supply, sewer systems and energy monitoring. The Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC) is also being upgraded for better city-wide coordination and service delivery.

India set to ease entry of private firms into nuclear power generation
The government may change nuclear laws to let private companies run plants, as it works on rules and targets 100 GW of clean energy from nuclear power by the year 2047 The government is working on rules that could open up nuclear power generation to private companies. It's a move that is aimed at strengthening India's clean energy goals under the Viksit Bharat 2047 plan, according to a report by The Economic Times. Why it matters Nuclear power in India is currently restricted to government-owned entities. Allowing private participation could help scale up capacity and cut project costs at a time when the country is racing to meet growing energy demands while cutting emissions. The Centre is considering specific eligibility criteria for private players keen to run nuclear power plants. These discussions include possible changes to key laws, including the Atomic Energy Act and the Civil Liability for Nuclear Damage Act, the news report said. Eligibility being planned New regulations would include checks on financial and technical strength. Criteria could include: *Consistent positive revenue over a defined period *Prior experience in handling large-scale infrastructure *Strong financial health and operational stability However, these conditions will be formalised only after legal amendments are made and notified. The goal is to ensure only serious and capable companies enter the nuclear energy sector, The Economic Times mentioned. Where India stands on nuclear energy *8.8 GW: India's current installed nuclear capacity *23: Number of operational nuclear plants, all run by the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd (NPCIL) *22 GW by 2032: Short-term goal *100 GW by 2047: Long-term target under clean energy plans Focus on cost, timelines Last month, PK Mishra, principal secretary to the Prime Minister, highlighted that timely project execution, affordable financing, and involvement of private players are crucial to reducing electricity tariffs and ensuring the viability of nuclear energy projects. Speaking at the valedictory function of the 68th batch of scientific officers at the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) Training School, Mishra urged scientists to focus on innovation and cost-cutting approaches to help position nuclear power as the country's primary energy source. Building small nuclear reactors India is also working on three types of small modular reactors (SMRs), Union Minister Jitendra Singh told the Parliament last month. These include: *200 MWe Bharat SMR *55 MWe SMR *5 MWth High Temperature Gas Cooled Reactor for hydrogen production *All are being developed indigenously He said that construction of demo units could begin within 60-72 months after project approvals.

UP Board announces automatic recognition for schools offering vocational edu
Prayagraj: In a major step towards promoting vocational education and industrial skill development, the Uttar Pradesh Secondary Education Board (UP Board) announced that recognised secondary and intermediate institutions will no longer need separate recognition to offer vocational job roles. Schools will be deemed automatically recognised, provided they follow the prescribed guidelines set by the education council. This new policy, which will come into effect from the academic year 2028, aims to simplify administrative procedures and encourage more schools to adopt vocational streams. It is expected to significantly enhance students' industry-relevant skills and employability. For instance, if a school wishes to offer training in fields like information technology, banking, automobile or healthcare, it will be considered automatically eligible to do so without needing additional approvals. According to the Director of Education, Mahendra Dev, schools must, however, establish mandatory partnerships with local workshops, industries, or companies to ensure practical exposure. Vocational education will be integrated into the high school and intermediate board exams as a compulsory subject. In high school, students will choose one vocational subject as a seventh subject, alongside options like moral education, yoga, physical education, or socially useful work. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like American Investor Warren Buffett Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo At the intermediate level, vocational education will be introduced as a sixth subject. The scores will be clearly mentioned in the student's mark sheet.A key feature of the reform is the compulsory 10-day internship in the chosen vocational field, which students must complete through local industrial or commercial establishments. Over 20 sectors are being offered for selection, including automobile, banking, beauty and wellness, capital goods, electronics, IT, media and entertainment, telecom, tourism, plumbing, healthcare, private security, and sports, among others. Experts believe that this move towards industry-integrated education will not only empower students with job-ready skills but also bridge the gap between academic learning and practical experience.
