Do you remember when JJ Spaun drained that 65-foot birdie putt at rain-soaked Oakmonton to win the U.S. Open?
One would still get chills if they see Spaun, soaked and stunned, raise his arms and throw the club in the air as the ball disappears into the cup.

That Father's Day was like a turning point for the 34-year-old dad. He broke down in tears right after, and the golf world broke open with praise.
Adam Scott, Spaun's longtime idol, was among the first to congratulate him. And an old tweet Spaun posted years ago, admiring Scott, went viral overnight.
But the American pro's biggest revelation came this week at the Genesis Scottish Open, where he admitted that life on Tour has flipped since he lifted the trophy at Oakmont.
"It's been a complete 180," he admitted on Wednesday.

"I've been out here for eight, nine years now... but you kind of notice a little bit of change in tone or I guess more of like respect.
"Especially from the top guys," Spaun highlighted. "They engage a little bit more with you. You kind of feel you're at a different level now, winning a major."
One of those top guys was Jack Nicklaus. Spaun recalled a moment at the Memorial Tournament, just a week before Oakmont, when the Golden Bear stopped him.
"He just said I was playing really well. I said, 'Yeah, it would've been nice to win.' He's like, 'You keep knocking on that door, you're going to knock one down.'"
The 34-year-old did exactly that, and Nicklaus followed up with a personal letter. "It was really cool," Spaun said.
Now he stands at No. 8 in the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR), but still feels stunned by the attention.
"It feels good to kind of earn that respect from my peers... making me feel like I belong, which is huge for confidence and huge for self-belief."
He added, "I still kind of can't fathom every time someone congratulates me for winning the U.S. Open. It's still a pinch-me moment... I'm completely honored."
Now, back at the Genesis Scottish Open, JJ Spuan shot an even par 70 during his opening round. He is six shots off the lead.

😵‍💫 Debutant loses his head: 90 minutes at Schalke will do that to you

Schalke 04 is anything but a normal football club. Even an experienced player like Nikola Katic had to realize this during his royal blue competitive debut. Because the 28-year-old was marked in several ways after the 90 minutes against Hertha. With his header goal in the 23rd minute, the defender immediately made it onto the scorers' list. His goal ultimately secured the 2:1 home victory. 📸 Lars Baron - 2025 Getty Images Just before the end, the 1.94-meter giant sustained a cut on his head, which was promptly glued on the pitch. The tough Bosnian carried on, even though he apparently could no longer see clearly. Because Katic received a yellow-red card in stoppage time for a deliberate handball. In the header duel with Hertha's Fabian Reese, he rose to the artificial leather in the style of a volleyball middle blocker. "I think he didn't know what he was doing," his coach Miron Muslic speculated after the game on the 'Sky' microphone. Katic must have felt like he was in the wrong movie. Because in 257 professional games, the defender had never seen a dismissal due to the second warning. It took exactly 90 minutes at Schalke. Tiger Woods' Son, Charlie, Wraps Up Successful Junior PGA Despite Missing Team USA Chance

Tiger Woods' son, Charlie, couldn't come close to the level he had shown the day before and dropped seven spots on the Junior PGA Championship leaderboard. His final score for the event was 9-under 276, finishing tied for ninth. Charlie had made two birdies and two bogeys up to the 13th hole, but the worst came later. The young Woods carded a bogey and double bogey on the 14th and 15th, respectively, to completely seal his fate for the round and the event. Still, a top-10 finish in this tournament is one of the most significant results of his young golf career. Charlie, who started the fourth round tied for second, failed to secure one of the two spots for the team that will compete in the Junior Ryder Cup. The system established by the PGA of America grants direct qualification to the top two finishers in the Junior PGA Championship. Charlie Woods of the United States hits a shot in the fairway on the18th hole during the first round of the U.S. Junior Amateur at Brook Hollow Golf Club on July 21, 2025 in Dallas, Texas. MoreHis result at this event gave Charlie 80 points toward the Junior Ryder Cup team's qualifying ranking, bringing his total to 455. This will allow him to move up a few places in the rankings, but he'll be out of reach of the top two, who also earn a spot on the team. Charlie still has a chance to be selected by captain Suzy Whaley as the sixth boy member of the team. He will certainly face stiff competition in this regard, as he has approximately seven players ranked higher on the Junior Ryder Cup points list. However, Charlie has as strong a case as anyone else, as he has one win this season unlike the aforementioned seven players. Another detail is that two of those seven players tied with Charlie in the Junior PGA Championship, but none finished better than him. Lunden Esterline cruised through the fourth round to comfortably win the Boys Junior PGA Championship with a six-stroke lead. As for the girls, Asterisk Talley confirmed her favored status and won with a score of 12-under, one stroke ahead of Zoe Cusack. Both also secured their spots on the Junior Ryder Cup team. Two MLB Players Suspected of Gambling Ties Have Their Lockers Removed

Major League Baseball announced Monday that Cleveland Guardians All-Star Emmanuel Clase was going on paid administrative leave while the league investigates the pitcher's connections to possible illegal betting. Clase joined Guardians teammate Luis Ortiz, who was effectively given a paid vacation while the league looks into any possible intent behind two pitches he threw that yielded suspicious prop betting activity. Originally suspended through the All-Star break, Ortiz's absence was extended through Aug. 31 to match Clase's suspension. Now, neither pitcher has a locker in the Guardians' clubhouse, according to Zack Meisel of The Athletic on Twitter/X. The lockers for Emmanuel Clase and Luis Ortiz have been cleared out in the Guardians' clubhouse. — Zack Meisel (@ZackMeisel) August 1, 2025 More to come on this story from Newsweek Sports.
