Admissions to UG courses in Kochi colleges see marginal increase
Kochi: As phase I of undergraduate admissions across prominent colleges in the city ends, this year's admission patterns showed a marginal increase of nearly 5% in student enrolments compared to the previous academic year. Although student enrolments have increased, traditional science subjects struggle to attract students with several seats remaining vacant in many city colleges. However, unconventional vocational programmes such as BVoc and Psychology witnessed a larger demand. Also, the demand continued for computer science with 100% admissions in most colleges and witnessing a higher demand in courses which provide artificial intelligence as a main component. "Interestingly, we saw an increase in admissions compared to last year. Most seats have been filled, except in traditional science subjects such as Botany and Mathematics," said Sabu M C, controller of examinations at St Albert's College. Officials of Bharat Mata College, Thrikkakara, said the cut-off percentages for key departments remained high with Commerce at 95%, English at 90% and Economics at 88% while the cut-off for science subjects generally stood around 70%. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 새로 나온 '실손보험' 비교가입시, "합리적인 가격과 실속있는 보장으로 맞춤설계"... 굿리치 [등록번호:제2006038313호] 가입하기 Undo "Nearly 85% of students have enrolled so far at the college, slightly higher than last year. A higher demand has been witnessed for new-generation courses although subjects such as Botany and Mathematics have seen less takers," said a college official in charge of admissions. At Rajagiri College, Kalamassery, high cut-offs were recorded for its specialized honours programmes. BSc Psychology led with 98%, followed by BCA and BSW at 94% and BCom (Hons) with ACCA at 93%. The institution also reported a 2-3% rise in cut-off marks for courses like Psychology and Fintech-based BBA compared to the previous year. At Sacred Heart College, Thevara, the cut-offs for BA and BSc courses ranged from 70-95%. Popular courses such as BBA, BCA, BA English, BA Sociology and BSc Psychology had cut-offs in the 90%+ range. Newly introduced BA Social Work recorded 73% cut-off. UC College, Aluva, also reported high cut-offs with Sports Management topping the list at 98%, followed by BSc Psychology (97%), BSc Computer Science (96%) and BSc Chemistry and Economics at 95%. College officials noted that most cut-offs remained consistent with last year. However, with delays in the results of entrance exams such as NEET, KEAM and CUET, colleges fear that students may migrate to professional courses when those admissions begin.

Power woes in Aerocity: PSPCL to lay overhead cables as interim fix for moisture-affected underground network
1 2 Mohali: Amid ongoing power woes faced by the residents in Aerocity, the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) has decided to install overhead power cables as a temporary fix. The move comes in response to technical failures in the township's underground cable network, which is reportedly catching moisture and disrupting supply. Aerocity, Gmada's flagship mega township in Mohali, was designed with state-of-the-art infrastructure, including an underground power distribution system. However, over the past several years — and especially during the rainy season — PSPCL has been facing frequent malfunctions caused by moisture seeping into cable joints, leading to transformer breakdowns and extended outages. In a recent development, PSPCL has written to Gmada seeking land allotment for setting up two major power grid substations of 220 kV and 166 kV to ensure a reliable and long-term solution to the power crisis in the area. To tackle the immediate situation, PSPCL is laying overhead power lines in vulnerable areas. These will be energised whenever underground cables fail, enabling faster restoration of supply. Mohali deputy commissioner Komal Mittal confirmed the issue had gained attention at the administrative level. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Cách giao dịch ETH/USD mà không cần nắm giữ Ether IC Markets Tìm hiểu thêm Undo "I received multiple complaints from Aerocity residents regarding frequent outages. A meeting was held with PSPCL officers and the area executive engineer. During the meeting, PSPCL proposed the installation of overhead cables as a temporary measure to shift the load during underground failures," she said. "They have been instructed to implement this solution swiftly and simultaneously work on a permanent fix." Despite repeated attempts, PSPCL Aerocity executive engineer Shawinder Singh could not be reached for comments. Residents of Aerocity, who invested in the township for its promised modern amenities, expressed frustration over the continuing power crisis. Many allege that the area, despite its premium branding, is plagued by poor civic infrastructure and basic service failures. "We were sold a dream, but reality is quite the opposite," said a disgruntled resident. As PSPCL works to execute the overhead line plan and awaits Gmada's response on substation land allotment, Aerocity's residents hope for a more reliable power supply in the days to come.
