Trader loses RM500k in online job scam in Kuala Terengganu
Kuala Terengganu police chief ACP Azli Mohd Noor said the 38-year-old victim was contacted on May 14 by a Facebook user named Nabila Puteri, who offered him a job through social media.
'To earn the commission, the victim was instructed to buy various items through an app downloaded from a link provided by the suspect.
'He initially received some commission for completed tasks and, tempted by the early profits, made 38 more transactions to 22 different bank accounts,' Azli said in a statement.
The victim reportedly used his savings from selling fruits, groceries, and cattle, borrowed money from friends, and even used credit cards to fund the payments.
A police report was lodged yesterday, and the case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating. - Bernama

131 foreigners stopped at KLIA for failing to meet entry requirements
KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 131 foreign nationals were denied entry into Malaysia at Terminal 1 of the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) on Friday after failing to meet the country's entry requirements. In a statement today, the Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency said an operation, conducted from 3pm to 10pm, screened over 300 foreigners at the International Arrival Hall and Departure Gates C1 to C37. Of those screened, 96 men from Bangladesh and 30 men from Pakistan, as well as five Indonesians, comprising four men and one woman, failed to meet the entry requirements. "Among the violations identified were suspicious accommodation bookings, failure to report to the Immigration counter and insufficient funds for living expenses," the agency said. "Financial issues are a key indicator of a visitor's true intentions. For instance, some travellers claimed they intended to stay for a month but only brought about RM500, which raised doubts about their purpose of visit," it added. The agency said its actions were in line with international Immigration principles, which require visitors to prove they will not become a burden to the country they are entering. The agency said national border security and sovereignty remained its top priority. It added that it would not compromise against any attempt by individuals who try to enter Malaysia using false documents or with suspicious intent. "Therefore, all foreign visitors are advised to ensure their travel documents, accommodation arrangements, and financial resources are complete and reasonable before arriving in Malaysia," they said.

SHAH ALAM, July 14 (Bernama) -- Police will summon all participants of a controversial eHati marriage programme, alleged to have involved immoral activities, to record their statements as part of an ongoing investigation. Selangor police chief, Datuk Hussein Omar Khan, said that the action falls under Section 122 of the Criminal Procedure Code, following the opening of a police inquiry into the matter. 'Further investigations have led to the case being classified under Sections 294 and 509 of the Penal Code, as well as Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act,' he said, in a statement, today. 'A thorough investigation will be carried out to determine the presence of any obscene elements or teachings, which deviate from societal norms, as alleged. Hussein added that the probe would be conducted comprehensively, to ensure all aspects and allegations are assessed fairly and objectively. He also advised the public to be more cautious and discerning before participating in any programme, activity, or workshop, especially those with unclear objectives, or organisers with questionable backgrounds. 'The public is encouraged to verify and seek clarification beforehand, to avoid being involved in activities which may contravene the law or societal moral values,' he said. Two days ago, Selangor Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, reportedly urged the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS) to investigate allegations of immoral activities at a family motivation programme, held at a convention centre in the state. Amirudin stressed that the matter should be taken seriously, and that firm action must be taken if the allegations are found to be true, following a thorough investigation.

Factory worker jailed 9 months for iron-rod assault on colleague
File photo for illustration purposes SIBU (July 14): The Magistrates' Court here today sentenced an aluminium factory worker to nine months in prison for assaulting and injuring his co-worker with an iron rod. Magistrate Romario Jonoi convicted Jefferson Emprang, 43, from Nanga Salim here on his own guilty plea to a charge of voluntarily causing hurt, framed under Section 324 of the Penal Code. The Section provides for up to 10 years' imprisonment or a fine or whipping, or with any two of such punishments, upon conviction. He committed the offence at a factory premises in Lorong Alan 2 here at about 6.30amon July 7, 2025. According to the facts of the case, the 27-year-old victim was seated in the driver's seat of a lorry when he was suddenly assaulted by Jefferson, who struck him on the left cheek using an iron rod. The victim immediately exited the lorry and fled the factory compound, but was pursued by the accused who swung the rod and struck the victim on the neck. Jefferson was arrested along Jalan Saga here at about 5pm on the same day, with police also seizing the iron rod from his workplace. It was not mentioned in court as to what triggered the attack.
